(08/240) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from news coverage of August 28, 2022 that, 2 militants died on June 12, 2022 and 1 militant died on July 11, 2022 in clashes between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Zap area in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

(08/241) People Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment of Village Guards in Mardin…

It is learned that on August 27, 2022, villagers were subjected to physical violence by village guards after a quarrel in Taşlıbuk village of Midyat district of Mardin and 11 people were wounded in various parts of their bodies. The names of the wounded people are as follows: Adla Orhan, Dilan Orhan, Mesude Orhan, Rıfha Orhan and Fethullah Orhan.

Adla Orhan, who was subjected to torture and ill-treatment, stated the following to the press: “There were about 20 of them, they attacked. I told them not to do that. One of them hit me on the head with a stone. I knew them (…) When we were getting ready to leave the village, the village guards blocked our way. They beat us, pulled guns and threatened us. They split my father’s eyebrow, knocked my mother to the ground and kicked her. They broke my father’s arm and hit his head with a stone.”

It is learned from news coverage of August 27, 2022 that prisoners in Van High Security Prison who tested positive for Covid-19 were not treated and were not given necessary medication.

(08/243) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on August 26, 2022 to to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison, in order to visit them, was not responded.

(08/244) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protests in Ankara…

The police intervened in the press declaration of “I Want My Job Back” protest in front of the Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 26, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(08/245) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the Justice Watch for ill prisoners at Mecidiyeköy Square in Şişli district of Istanbul on August 27, 2022 and detained 10 people including prisoners’ relatives, The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) executives and association executives by using physical violence. The detainees were released the same day after statement procedures at the police.

The names of the detainees are as follows: Fince Akman and Cemile Çiftçi, relatives of prisoners; HDP Istanbul co-chair İlknur Birol, the Anatolian Association for Assistance and Solidarity with Families Who Lost Their Relatives (ANYAKAY-DER) co-chair Evin Genç, HDP employee Zübeyde İnce and Saturday Mother Hanife Yıldız.

Musician Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu, who was detained on August 25, 2022 on the grounds of ‘inciting hatred and hostility among the public’ and was arrested by the court on the same day, is released on house confinement on August 29, 2022 after her lawyers’ appeal was accepted.

(08/247) Investigation Against CHP Executive…

It is learned that Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu, on the grounds of insulting the President, for calling the President a “dictator” in a speech she made at a meeting of her party, and that Canan Kaftancıoğlu gave her official statement through the investigation on August 29, 2022.

It is learned from news coverage of August 28, 2022 that, an investigation is initiated by the Directorate General of Security upon a criminal complaint against Istanbul Police Department Security Branch Directorate H. Z., who prevented journalists covering the protest of health workers in Istanbul on July 7, 2022 and threatened Artı TV cameraman Bilal Meyveci by saying “Did you film, did you film me stepping on your foot? If not, we will see you later”.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 29, 2022 that Greek citizen journalist Evangelos Areteos was interrogated by the police for 7 hours at Sabiha Gökçen Airport in Istanbul, where he arrived from Brussels on August 25, 2022 and was deported afterwards.

It is learned that news reports about the Justice and Development Party (AKP) Erzurum MP, published on https://www.birgun.net, https://t24.com.tr, https://abcgazetesi.com, https://www.sozcu.com.tr websites were banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Ankara Gölbaşı Penal Court of Peace on August 26, 2022.

A content on https://eksisozluk.com website about former Prime Minister Tansu Çiller’s notes in the Special Book of Anıtkabir is banned to access by İstanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 10 on August 26, 2022.

(08/251) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to the Coup Attempt…

21 people were detained in house raids in Istanbul on August 26, 2022.
