(11/288) Person Subjected to Physical Violence of the Police in Izmir…

Mehmet Şerif Coşkun, a 25-year-old person who had a heart attack after being subjected to physical violence of the police asking him for his identity card, in Konak district of Izmir on November 13, 2020, died in hospital on November 25, 2020.

News reports on the case has covered statements of a witness of the incident, who shared the following: “He was in his grocery store on that day. And he went out to park his car. A group of police officers with motorbikes arrived and they wanted to make criminal record check. Şerif said, ‘I will park the car first, then you can do’. 6 police officers, took Şerif out of the car and started to beat him although he had done nothing. He was lying on the ground and they were spraying pepper gas on him and kicking him. People started to gather around, we tried to stop the violence of the police. But they committed violence to us too. A friend of mine was recording all of this with his phone, they took his phone and deleted the video. Then I recorded a short video covering a few minutes. They tried to delete this video too, but I did not give my phone to them.”

It is learned from the news coverage of November 25, 2020 that, in Malatya Akçadağ Prison, the meals given to prisoners were inadequate, heating in the wards do not work and winter clothing sent to prisoners from outside were not delivered to them.

(11/290) Preventions and Interventions Against 25 November Protests…

Interventions and preventions of 25 November – International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women protests are:

The march of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Women’s Assembly and Women’s Platform in Adana is prevented by the police on the grounds of precautions for Covid-19.

The march of Women’s Platform in Ankara is prevented by the police on the grounds of precautions for Covid-19. The police intervened the women who insisted on holding the march.

The police prevented the march and the press declaration of Women Committees in Taksim, Istanbul. The police blocked around the women having a sit-in protest in front of police barriers, and after a 5-hour blockage, the police detained 10 women by using physical violence and handcuffing them behind their backs. It is learned that 1 woman was injured at the police intervention. It is reported that detained women were not allowed to see their lawyers and they were kept in the detention vehicle with handcuffs. The police also prevented journalists from recording the intervention.

The police prevented the press declaration of the Future Party (GP) members in Van.

(11/291) Police Intervention to Workers’ Protest in Karaman…

The police used pressurized water and pepper spray to intervene the miners who wanted to march from Ermenek district of Karaman to Ankara to demand their compensation rights, on November 25, 2020; and detained 30 people including Tahir Çetin, chair of Independent Miners Labour Union (Bağımsız Maden-İş). It is learned that 1 person was injured in the police intervention.

(11/292) Detained Lawyers in Bursa…

On November 25, 2020, 2 lawyers (Cahit Kırkazak and Mehmet Deniz Büyük) from the Association of Lawyers for Freedom are detained in house raids by gendarmerie in Bursa. It is learned that a warrant was issued for lawyer Ibrahim Fatih Korhan too, but he was not detained for not being home. It is reported that detained layers are taken to Otosansit Gendarmerie Station.

(11/293) Arrested Person for Social Media Posts in Van…

Reber Mazlum Safran, a university student who was detained for his social media posts, on November 22, 2020 in Van, is arrested by the court on November 25, 2020.

(11/294) Detained Person in Diyarbakır…

Suna Balta, the person who was detained after having a dispute with people having a sit-in protest in front of HDP’s provincial office in Diyarbakır on November 24, 2020, is released after statement procedures at the police on November 25, 2020.

(11/295) The Case Against Members and Executives of Political Parties, Associations and District Councils in Antep…

The indictment of Antep Public Prosecutor’s Office against 29 people (18 of them are arrested) including members and executives of HDP, Socialist Refoundation Party (SYKP), Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Human Rights Association (IHD), Peace Mothers Assembly, and also lawyers, is accepted by Antep Heavy Penal Court No 2. The first trial will be held on January 4, 2021.

The indictment demands for 29 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, based on their activities within political parties and associations.

(11/296) People on Trial in Balıkesir…

The final trial of the case against 5 people, for the chanted during the demonstration in Ayvalık district of Balıkesir, for the first year over the October 10- Ankara Massacre, is held at Ayvalık Penal Court of First Instance No 1 on November 25, 2020.

The court sentenced 5 people (Labour Party Balıkesir chair Cemil Tosunoğlu, Ömer Aslan, Halis Çalık, Hasan Elmacı and Evren Nesil Çalık) to 1 year 3 months and 16 days each on the charge of ‘insulting the President’, and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(11/297) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 168 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 6,814 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on November 25, 2020. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 28,351.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 12,840 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 467,730 as of November 25, 2020.

It is learned that Mehmet Say, a health professional in Eskişehir, died from Covid-19 on November 25, 2020.

Turkish Medical Association (TTB) declared that 180 health professionals lost their lives because of Covid-19, as of November 25, 2020.
