(11/271) Preventions and Interventions Against November 25 Protests…

7 people who were detained while distributing leaflets about “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women” in Esenyurt district of Istanbul on November 24, 2019 are arrested on the charge of ‘insulting the state and inciting hatred among people’ on November 25, 2019. Arrested people are: Ayfer Yılmaz, Muzaffer İpek, Türkan Sünbül, Elvan Uçar, Mürvet Kesen, Zübeyde Ağırbaş, Maynur Yılmaz.

The police used rubber bullets and pepper spray to intervene the women marching from Tünel Square to Istiklal Street in Istanbul on November 25, 2019 for International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Beyoğlu Sub-Governorate has banned the march on November 24, 2019 and lifted the ban on November 25, 2019. It is learned that numerous people were injured due to intervention.

Mardin Governorate banned the press declaration of Commission for Rights of Women and Children of Mardin Bar Association on November 25, 2019.

(11/272) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1112 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on November 25, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on November 25, 2019, 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Merve Demirel) and at 18.00 3 people (Nazan Bozkurt, Merve Demirel and Melek Çetinkaya) were detained.

Thus in total 5 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on November 25, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

(11/273) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the protestors in front of Çankaya Public Health Directorate on November 25, 2019, who rally to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 3 people (Mahmut Konuk, Cemal Yıldırım and Merve Demirel). It is learned that 2 people were released the same day.

Hatice Köşker who was detained in a house raid in Balıkesir on November 22, 2019 is released on November 25, 2019 on judicial control conditions.

(11/275) Constitutional Court Decision on Freedom of Expression and Art…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 25, 2019 that Constitutioanl Court has concluded on individual appeal of sculpturer Mehmet Aksoy about demolishing of his Monument to Humanity in 2011. Mehmet Aksoy’s monument which has been built in Kars in 2006 was labelled as “freak” by Tayyip Erdoğan, who was visiting the city as Prime Minister in 2011 and was demolished by Kars Municipality. The court stated that freedom of expression and art of Mehmet Aksoy was violated and a compensation of 20.000 Turkish Liras should be paid.

(11/276) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

7 of 63 military members on active duty who were detained through an Ankara based investigation on Turkish Air Forces personnel on November 22, 2019, are released on judicial control conditions on November 25, 2019.

1 person who is detained in Ankara on November 25, 2019 is arrested on the same day.

It is learned that 34 of 46 people for whom a warrant is issued through an Ankara based investigation are detained on November 25, 2019.

(11/277) Ban of Events in Adana…

Adana Governorate made a declaration on November 25, 2019 and announced that, on the grounds of possible protests related to trustee appointments to municipalities won by HDP and Turkish Armed Forces operation to north and south Syria, all open and indoor events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, festivals, concerts, delivering leaflets and so on are banned for 15 days as of November 25, 2019. This is the fourth time of banning all events in Adana for 15 days since October 10, 2019.
