The Ministry of National Defense announced that one soldier (Kenan Şahin) serving in Syria died on June 25, 2026, at the hospital where he had been admitted due to health issues.
(06/175) Iranian Citizen Subjected to Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Hakkari…
It was reported that two Iranian citizens, Salah Bimari and Resul Bimari, who were detained in the rural area of the Şemdinli district of Hakkari on allegations of attempting to enter Turkey illegally, were subjected to torture and other ill-treatment while in custody and at the prison to which they were transferred after being arrested. It was reported that the two sustained injuries in various parts of their bodies as a result of the torture they endured. The report also noted that a notary who went to the Hakkari Prison to handle power-of-attorney procedures, as well as two lawyers who went to meet with the individuals in question, were not allowed into the prison and were told, “They are not here.”

On June 25, 2026, during a parade held as part of Ardahan University’s graduation ceremony, students carrying a banner celebrating Amedspor’s promotion to the Super League were reportedly attacked by a racist group and private security personnel; as a result of the attack, the banner was seized and torn.

Doğa Baskan, a reporter for the Evrensel newspaper, was arrested on June 25, 2026, by a magistrate’s court on the grounds of a news article previously published on the newspaper’s website but later removed, and charged with “publicly disseminating misleading information.” Doğa Baskan was released on June 26, 2026.

Journalist Ali Çağatay was detained on June 25, 2026, on the grounds of charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information” and “insulting state institutions and organs,” regarding the abduction of the General Manager of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Culture Inc.

Among the 225 people detained in Ankara on June 23, 2026, were journalist Yıldız Tar, academic Emel Memiş, lawyers Semra Demir and Kürşad Bafra, Halkevleri executive Hediye Yıldırım, Uut-Sen spokesperson Burcu Arıkan, and TEMA Foundation Ankara Representative Nevzat Özer were among the 178 who were arrested on June 25 and 26, 2026, on charges of “being a member of an organization” and “spreading organizational propaganda.” Forty-seven were released, 15 under house arrest and 19 under other judicial supervision conditions.

It was reported that the Tekirdağ Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against journalists Selman Çiçek and Hülya Baytur on the grounds that they subscribed to the magazine “Democratic Modernity,” and that the two journalists went to the Diyarbakır Provincial Police Department on June 26, 2026, to give their statements.

The trial of human rights defender Mehmet Acettin and Hacer Elçin, a member of the Suruç Families Initiative, which was filed at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 25, began on June 25, 2026. The indictment seeks the conviction of both individuals on charges of “being a member of an organization.” The court ruled to continue the house arrest as a judicial control measure for Mehmet Acettin and to maintain Hacer Elçin’s detention, and adjourned the hearing to September 17, 2026.
On February 3, 2026, while Mehmet Acettin was placed under house arrest as a judicial control measure, Hacer Elçin was arrested.

The final hearing in the case against artist Müjdat Gezen, filed at the Istanbul Anatolia Criminal Court of First Instance No. 59 due to remarks he made on a television program, was held on June 25, 2026. The court sentenced Müjdat Gezen to 3 months and 22 days in prison for the crime of “publicly humiliating a segment of the population based on social, class, religious, sectarian, gender, or regional differences” and suspended the pronouncement of the sentence.

The case against five police officers—filed in the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 62 regarding their physical violence and the use of handcuffs to restrain and detain lawyer Murat Çelik during the police intervention at the “Saturday Mothers”/“Saturday People” protest held in Galatasaray Square on July 8, 2023—resumed on June 26, 2026.
The indictment seeks the conviction of the defendant police officers on charges of “intentional assault.” The court adjourned the hearing until October 9, 2026.

The trial against two individuals regarding the armed attack on the İzmir office of Evrensel Newspaper on August 13, 2025, which was filed at the İzmir Criminal Court of First Instance No. 42, continued on June 25, 2026. The court issued a warrant for the compulsory appearance of defendant İsa Can, who had failed to attend any of the hearings, and adjourned the hearing to September 14, 2026.

It was reported that, based on news stories published on June 25, 2026, access to the X social media account belonging to the NATO Defol Campaign Platform was blocked on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.
According to news reports published on June 26, 2026, access to the X social media account belonging to the Revolutionary Youth Associations was blocked on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.
