(06/160) Operations and Attacks…

According to news reports on June 21, 2025, a clash between Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) units and HPG militants in the Hakurk region within the borders of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (IKBY) on February 18, 2025, resulted in the death of one militant.

(06/161) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Custody…

According to news reports published on June 25, 2025, lawyer Kardelen Başak, who was physically assaulted and detained during the police intervention at the 11th Trans Pride March held in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on June 22, 2025, was subjected to physical violence in the vehicle she was placed in after her detention. Trans Pride March in Istanbul’s Kadıköy district, lawyer Kardelen Başak was physically assaulted and detained. It was reported that she was subjected to physical violence in the vehicle she was placed in after her arrest and again at the Kadıköy İskele Police Station, where she was also strip-searched.

Lawyer Kardelen Başak stated the following in her statement published in the press: “They beat me severely and forced me onto the detention bus. At this stage, they brought in three female police officers with their faces completely covered by masks. Inside, they beat me and put plastic handcuffs on me so tightly that they caused gangrene (…) We were taken to the Kadıköy Pier Police Station in this condition. During the ‘upper body search’ at the center, while I was sitting on a chair waiting for my turn in a room where we were taken in groups of four, I was subjected to insults and abuse by a male police officer who entered the room and was forced to stand up. After I told him that he couldn’t speak to me like that, that he couldn’t touch me, and that I was a lawyer, the male police officer shouted, “Give him special treatment!” and left the room. As a result, the body searches of the other three people were conducted before mine, and they were hurriedly taken out, and the door was locked behind me. The three female police officers inside verbally abused me, pushed and shoved me, forcibly opened my clothes, and conducted a strip search, touching all parts of my body.”

According to news reports on June 25, 2025, it was learned that Amedspor jersey with a Kurdish word “Hebun” written on it, sent to Mahsum Yüksekbağ, a prisoner held in Erzurum High Security Prison No. 1, was not given to him by the prison administration.

(06/163) Person Detained in Istanbul…

Onur Yılmaz, a member of the Polen Ecology Collective, was detained on June 25, 2025, at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport upon his arrival from abroad. The reason for his detention is unknown.

(06/164) Political Party Members Detained in Diyarbakır…

Four members of the Youth Assembly of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) (Muhsin Aydoğdu, Fermandar Kardaş, Yusuf Demir Polat, and Celal Özer) who were detained during house raids in Diyarbakır on June 24, 2025, were released on June 25, 2025, after giving statements to the police.

(06/165) Journalist and Others on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of ETHA reporter Züleyha Müldür, Socialist Women’s Assemblies (SKM) member Ezgi Gürbüz, and Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) Central Executive Committee member Simay Ada Kart began on June 25, 2025, at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 14.  The indictment seeks the punishment of the three individuals for “being a member of an organization” and “making propaganda for an organization.” The court decided to release Züleyha Müldür under judicial control and a ban on leaving the country, and to continue the detention of Ezgi Gürbüz and Simay Ada Kart, and adjourned the trial until September 18, 2025.

Züleyha Müldür, Ezgi Gürbüz, and Simay Ada Kart were arrested on January 25, 2025.

(06/166) Persons on Trial in Tunceli…

The final hearing of the case against seven individuals charged with participating in protests against the appointment of a trustee to the Tunceli Municipality was held on June 25, 2025, at the Tunceli Criminal Court of First Instance No.1.  The court sentenced the seven individuals to five months in prison for “violating the Law on Demonstrations and Marches No. 2911” and postponed the announcement of the verdict.

(06/167) Event Blocked in Istanbul…

According to news reports on June 25, 2025, it was learned that the screening of three films as part of open-air screenings organized by the Boğaziçi University Cinema Club in Istanbul was banned by the university administration. It was reported that the administration later canceled all open-air screenings. On June 25, 2025, it was learned that the screening of the film “Beynelminel” was prevented by private security units despite the ban.

(06/168) People Detained in Izmir…

On June 26, 2025, 20 people, including police officers, were detained during house raids in Izmir.
