(07/167) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Remzi Nişan) and 4 village guards (Bülent Vermez, Kemal İmece, Avdi Demir, Veysi Sebik) died in an attack during the Claw-Lock operation of the Turkish Armed Forces in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on July 25, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 26, 2022 that, 2 militants died in clashes between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Qandil area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on May 30, and June 6, 2022.

It is learned that a prisoner named Mehmet Yılmaz died in Urfa E Type Prison on July 24, 2022. It is claimed in the news reports that Mehmet Yılmaz killed himself.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 25, 2022 that, the water in the wards in Adana E Type Prison was frequently cut off.

(07/170) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 25, 2022 that, 4 prisoners who tested positive for Covid-19 in Van High Security Prison were not taken to hospital despite their demand.

(07/171) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police used pepper gas to intervene in the people gathering in front of the Human Rights Monument on Yüksel Street in Çankaya district of Ankara, on July 25, 2022 to participate in the press declaration as a part of “Justice Watch” of the Confederation of Public Employees’ Unions (KESK) Ankara Branches Platform against the State of Emergency practices. It is learned that nobody was detained.

(07/172) Police Intervention to a Protest in Kocaeli…

The police used pepper gas to intervene in the bus drivers who wanted to walk to the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality building on July 25, 2022 to protest an application of the Transportation Department. It is learned that nobody was detained.

(07/173) Prevention of an Event in Antalya…

The police prevented the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly members who wanted to play a football match in Antalya on July 25, 2022; to protest the artillery fire allegedly carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces against the rural area of the city of Zaho within the borders of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government which killed 9 civilians, including children, and injured 23 people, and the detention of 11 people in the police intervention against a match played as part of the Kemal Kurkut Football Tournament in Istanbul. Afterwards, the police intervened in the group, which had a banner that read “Detentions and pressures cannot intimidate the youth” and detained 7 people. Detained people are released on the same day.

(07/174) Detained People in Adana…

It is learned that 3 of 4 Syrian citizens who were detained in Adana on July 23, 2022 are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on July 25, 2022. 1 person is released on judicial control conditions.

(07/175) Police Officers on Trial for Torture and Ill-Treatment Allegations…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 25, 2022, that the 8th Penal Chamber of the Court of Cassation, ruled “incomplete examination” and overturned the life imprisonment sentences given to police officers Oktay Kapsız, Ramazan Adıgüzel, Murat Ertürk and Abdülcelil Karadağ on the charge of “killing by torture” in the murder case of Murat Konuş.

Murat Konuş, who was detained in Istanbul on January 7, 2010, fell ill as a result of the torture and other ill-treatment he was subjected to in the Public Security Branch Directorate and died in Şişli Training and Research Hospital, where he was taken. In the autopsy report prepared by the Forensic Medicine Institute, it was stated that the cause of death was “cerebral haemorrhage due to blunt head trauma”.

(07/176) Removal of Banner in Mardin…

It is learned that the banner hung on the HDP’s provincial building in Mardin regarding the artillery fire allegedly carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces against the rural area of the city of Zaho within the borders of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, which killed 9 civilians, including children, and injured 23 people; was removed on July 25, 2022, upon the instructions of the police, without informing the party executives.

(07/177) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that the news reports about the public tenders given to children of the chair of the Association for Spreading Knowledge (İlim Yayma Cemiyeti), published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://haberalternatif.com, https://www.birgun.net websites are banned to access on the grounds of “violation of personal rights” by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No. 5 on July 25, 2022.

(07/178) Banned Books…

It is learned that two books, “Women’s Revolution” (Kadın Devrimi) and “Going to Kobanê, Through the Language of Those Who Survived Suruç” (Suruç’ta Kalanların Dilinden Kobanê’ye Gitmek) of Ceylan Publications, are banned upon the request of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No. 6 on July 19, 2022.

(07/179) Dismissed Prosecutor…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 25, 2022 that Aydın Public Prosecutor Aykut Aydoğan was dismissed from the profession by the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK).

(07/180) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

It is learned that 26 people are detained in operations covering 18 cities through an Izmir based investigation on July 26, 2022.
