(07/279) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from news coverage of July 25, 2018 that, a forest fire started around Yavruköy and İlkadım villages of Nusaybin district of Mardin, where a curfew was announced by Mardin Governorate for planned operations in the area.

(07/280) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on July 25, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on July 25, 2018, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Mahmut Konuk) and at 18.00 3 people (Gülnaz Bozkurt, İlker Işık and Acun Karadağ) were detained.

Thus in total 5 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on July 25, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

2 members of HDP (Mehmet Akdağ and Ali Çelikten) were detained in house raids in Adana on July 25, 2018. 2 people were released on the same day after statement procedures.

Melek Ağdaş, Ayvalık district executive of Labour Party (EMEP) is detained for her social media posts in a house raid in Balıkesir on July 25, 2018.

(07/283) Arrested German Citizen for ‘Social Media Posts’ in Hatay…

German citizen Dennis E. was detained for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media posts’, in Arsuz district of Hatay, on July 25, 2018. Dennis E. is arrested by the court on the same day by the court.

(07/284) Prosecution of Police Officers About Kemal Kurkut’s Death…

Kemal Kurkut, a university student, has died due to gunfire of the police during Newroz celebrations in Diyarbakır on March 21, 2017. The official prosecution appeal of Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office, for 72 police officers who were on duty at the place where Kemal Kurkut died, on the charges of ‘impeachment’ and ‘spoiling and covering the evidence’; is rejected by the governor of Diyarbakır. Kurkut’s family lawyers objected the rejection, however, in case it is finalised the prosecutor’s office would have to verdict on non-prosecution.

(07/285) Peace Activist on Trial in Şırnak…

The case against peace activist and conscientious objector Yannis Vasilis Yaylalı, Meral Geylani and Veli Encü on Şırnak Heavy Penal Court No 2, started to be held on July 25, 2018. Yannis Vasilis Yaylalı, who has been arrested, attended the trial from Elazığ High Security Prison No 2, via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court released Yaylalı and lifted juridical control conditions on Geylani and Encü, and adjourned the trial to December 3, 2018.

Yannis Vasilis Yaylalı has been detained on April 22, 2017 in Uludere district of Şırnak and has been arrested on April 23, 2017 on the charges of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media’, ‘insulting the President’, and ‘inciting the public for illegal acts’.

On July 25, 2018, 22 people in operations covering 29 cities through an Ankara based investigation on police chief examination in 2011; 8 people through an Eskişehir based investigation are detained.

(07/287) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against 5 former judge nominees and 1 former teacher on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 23 is held on July 25, 2018. The court sentenced 6 defendants to jail penalties differing from 7 years 6 months to 10 years for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The final trial of the case against 2 former police officers (Ersoy Çökelez and Mustafa Karagöz), dismissed by the state of emergency decree, on Karabük Heavy Penal Court is held on July 25, 2018. The court sentenced 2 defendants to 7 years and 6 months each for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The US citizen priest Andrew Craig Brunson is placed under house arrest on juridical control conditions and with a ban on leaving the country, upon his lawyer’s objection to decision of İzmir Heavy Penal Court No 2, for continuation of detention. Andrew Craig Brunson has been arrested on December 9, 2016.

(07/288) Curfew in Kulp…

Diyarbakır Governorate made a declaration on July 25, 2018 and announced curfew until further notice in 1 village and 7 hamlets of Kulp district as of July 25, 2018, 11.00. The village and hamlets under curfew are: Yaylak village; Şeyhsalih, Nedrehuş, Mezrasor, Simetok, Dalideri, Akçana and Derik hamlets.

(07/289) Curfew in Nusaybin…

Mardin Governorate made a declaration on July 25, 2018 and announced curfew until further notice in 2 villages of Nusaybin district as of July 25, 2018, 03.00. The villages under curfew are: Yavruköy and İlkadım.

Mardin Governorate made another declaration on the same day and lifted the curfew.

(07/290) Event Banned in Tunceli…

18th Munzur Culture and Nature Fest, which was planned to be held on July 26-29, 2018 is banned on July 25, 2018 by Tunceli Governorate, on the grounds that ‘there could be propaganda made for illegal organisations and violent incidents’. It is stated in the declaration that “It is known through the investigations on open sources that, invitations and posts for the festival are made by supporters of illegal organisations; and that separatist and leftist organisations have found the opportunity to make propaganda and recruit members in the festivals organized in previous years”.
