It is learned from news coverage of February 26, 2025 that journalist Öznur Değer, who was kept in Mardin E Type Prison, was transferred to a prison of unknown type in Erzincan, against her will.

(02/239) No Response to Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan…

It is learned that the appeal made on February 25, 2025 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa in order to visit PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.

National Path Party Osmaniye provincial chair Süleyman Özer is detained on February 26, 2025, on the grounds of insulting the President in a social media post. Süleyman Özer was released after statement procedures at the police on the same day.

On February 26, 2025, 6 people are detained in Izmir for their social media posts about Fetullah Gülen.

(02/242) Co-Mayor and Political Party Executives on Trial in Tunceli

The first trial of the case against Tunceli Co-Mayor Birsen Orhan, former Tunceli provincial co-chairs of DEM Party Esma Ataş and Özcan Gürtaş and a person named Nazlı Öz Çelik, on the grounds of dancing halay and singing along to songs at a rally, started on February 25, 2025 at Tunceli Heavy Penal Court No 1. The indictment demands sentence for 4 people on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court adjourned the trial to March 25, 2025.

The final trial of the case against journalist Levent Gültekin, on the grounds of insulting the President in a television program, was held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 49 on February 25, 2025. The court acquitted Levent Gültekin.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 25, 2025 that, Antep Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against Mehmet Türkmen, chair of United Textile, Weaving and Leather Workers Union (BİRTEK-SEN), on the grounds of ‘insulting institutions and organs of the state’ through his expressions in a press declaration on February 14, 2025.

It is learned from news coverage of February 25, 2025 that the screening of the movie “Oy’una Geldik” directed by Kazım Öz was banned by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in accordance with Article 4 of Law No. 5224 on Evaluation, Classification and Supporting of Cinema Films.

The article in question is as follows: “In order to protect human dignity, public order, public morality, and the mental health of children and young people, the Ministry may refer films containing violence, pornography and images and effects incompatible with human dignity to the Evaluation and Classification Board for re-evaluation.”

It is learned from the news coverage of February 25, 2025 that, due to a protest at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, the activities of 28 student clubs and 6 student societies were suspended by the Rectorate until March 28, 2025 and their executive boards were dismissed.

The clubs whose activities were suspended and whose boards of directors were dismissed: Kemalist Thought, Science, Informatics, Bridge, Translation, Environment, Mountaineering, Dance, Literature, Education and Research, Electrotechnology, Photography, Gastronomy and Degustation, Fine Arts, Aviation, Cartoon and Humor, Village and Cooperatives, Cave Research, Debate, Music, Gaming, Radio Boğaziçi, Chess, Cinema, Social Sciences, Social Service, Underwater Sports, Historical Studies.

Societies whose activities were suspended: Marxist Idea, BÜÇEV – Linguistics, LÖSEV Benefit, BÜMED Student, Knitting, Socialist Idea.
