It is learned from the news coverage of February 25, 2020 that 2 soldiers died in an attack against Turkish Armed Forces personnel in Libya.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 25, 2020 that, 1 militant died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to Qandil area in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on February 24, 2020.

(02/302) Death Fast in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 25, 2020 that Bayram Sevgin, a prisoner in Kayseri Bünyan Prison went on a death fast on February 21, 2020 to protest torture and ill-treatment in prison.

(02/303) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the sit-in protest after press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1204 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on February 25, 2020 at 13.00, and forced participants away from the monument.

The police intervened the press declaration for Mustafa Koçak, İbrahim Gökçek and Helin Bölek, in front of Justice and Development Party (AKP) office in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on February 25, 2020 and detained 3 people (Zeynep Koçak, Hasan Koçak and Özlem with unknown surname). Mustafa Koçak is on death fast for 239 days in Izmir Şakran T Type Prison, to demand a fair trial. İbrahim Gökçek and Helin Bölek have gone on a hunger strike on June 18, 2019 and İbrahim Gökçek turned his strike to a death fast on January 3, 2020 and Helin Bölek did it so on January 20, 2020.

Nuray Aslan, People’s Democratic Party (HDP) council member of Akdeniz district of Mersin who was detained in a house raid on February 22, 2020, is released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 25, 2020.

(02/306) Detained HDP Executives and Members in Mersin…

6 people who were detained in house raids in Mersin on February 22, 2020, are released by the court on February 25, 2020. Detained people are: HDP Akdeniz district co-chair Feyza Kaya, HDP Toroslar district co-chair Cabbar Karabeg, HDP Party Assembly Member Rojhat Yaşar, HDP Mersin provincial executives Nazan Dündar, Cihan Kökbalık and Ercan Alp.

HDP Bayrampaşa district co-chair Nedim Genç is detained in Istanbul on February 25, 2020 The reason of detention is unknown.

(02/308) Pressures and Preventions on HDP Congress…

On February 23, 2020, 14 people, working for the audio system at HDP’s 4th Congress, were detained after the congress. It is learned that 13 of them are released on February 25, 2020 and 1 person is still under custody. Names and the reason of detention is unknown.

(02/309) People on Trial in Kocaeli…

The first trial of the case against 4 people (Cemile Çiftçi, Türkiye Bozkurt, Fehime Ekmez, Yeter Seyhan), for participating in the sit-in protest in front of Gebze Women’s Prison on May 2, 2019, is held at Kocaeli Heavy Penal Court No 4 on February 25, 2020. The prosecutor declared legal opinion and demanded sentence for 4 people on the charges of ‘committing crime on behalf of an illegal organisation’ and ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court adjourned the trial to May 21, 2020.

(02/309) “KCK Press Case”…

The trial of the case against 46 journalists, known as “KCK Press Case” is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 3 on February 25, 2020. It is reported that consolidation order of the case with the case at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14 against journalist Yüksel Genç is on file. The court adjourned the trial to July 7, 2020.

The case against 22 people, on the charge of ‘resisting the police’, during the police raid to Gündem newspaper on August 16, 2016, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 5 on February 25, 2020. It is learned that some of the phones and sim cards of journalists which were seized by the police back then, are lost. The court adjourned the trial to June 2, 2020.

(02/311) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against journalist Barış Terkoğlu, on the charge of ‘breaching the confidentiality of investigation’ in his news report on sexual abuse of a 17 years old member of Alperen Ocakları in Elazığ, a nationalist organisation; is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 16 on February 25, 2020. The court sentenced Barış Terkoğlu to a fine of 6,080 Turkish Liras.

The case against 27 people including Etkin News Agency reporter Meşale Tolu and writer Mukaddes Erdoğdu Çelik, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 29 is held on February 25, 2020. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to July 14, 2020.

On February 25, 2020, 23 people are detained in operations covering 24 cities through a Konya based investigation and 13 people are detained in Ankara for ‘using ByLock’.

“Freedom for Art” concert to show solidarity with Grup Yorum band, which was to be held in Avcılar district of Istanbul is banned by Avcılar Sub-Governorate on February 25, 2020.

(02/315) Prevention of Relief Sent to Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 25, 2020 that, trucks carrying humanitarian relief sent by HDP for survivors of earthquake in Van were prevented from entering neighbourhoods.
