(02/340) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence declared that 1 soldier (Halil İbrahim Çete) died due to weapon accident in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on February 27, 2022.

(02/341) Armed Attack on Journalist in Kocaeli…

It is learned that 3 people are arrested on February 27, 2022 in relation to the armed attack that killed journalist Güngör Arslan on February 19, 2022 in Kocaeli. The number of arrestees is 10, 2 of the detainees were released on judicial control conditions.

(02/342) People Forced to be Police Informants in Tunceli…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 25, 2022 that, 2 people (H. Ş. and D. K.) were forced to be police informants, in Pertek District Security Directorate in Tunceli.

(02/343) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Istanbul…

It is learned that 2 people (Cengiz Şahin and Haydar Doğan) who were detained in Sultangazi district of Istanbul on February 26, 2022 were threatened to death at Gazi Police Station.

(02/344) Police Threat to HDP Member in Batman…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 27, 2022 that Barış Afşar, a member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly was stopped by the police making death threats like “Prepare your grave” in Batman.

It is stated in the news reports that Barış Afşar was detained on February 14, 2022 and was forced to be a police informant. Barış Afşar stared the following to the press: “A police officer came to me while I was in detention room and took me to another room. The person in this room said ‘I am not a police officer. I am here only to talk’. When I asked him who he was, he said he was from the intelligence service, showing me a card (…) They wanted me to help them. I said ‘I know your intent, you are forcing me to be a police informant’ and left the room.”

(02/345) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Urfa…

It is learned that 1 person in Eyyübiye district of Urfa was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the police on the grounds of ‘disobeying stop warning’. It is reported that 3 other people who intervened the police violence were also subjected to torture and ill-treatment.

Urfa Governorate’s Office made the following declaration: “A motorcycle driver who disobeyed stop warning of the motor units in Sancaktar neighbourhood of Eyyübiye district on February 27, 2022; is caught in front of a coffee shop, where his relatives and acquaintances were, after 2 kilometres of chase. As the officers were detaining U. D. a group of 20 people sitting in the coffee shop intervened the incident and resisted to the police. 3 others are detained with the driver. 4 police officers are injured during detention.”

It is learned from the news coverage of February 25, 2022 that, prisoners in Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s Prison were forced to detailed search of the correction officers including male officers and those who reject this search were threatened with physical violence.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 25, 2022 that, a prisoner (Mehmet Ş. Acar) in Mardin E Type Prison was not being referred to hospitals for 5 months because he rejects strip search.

(02/348) Hunger Strikes in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 26, 2022 that, Hogir Batu, a prisoner who was transferred from Diyarbakır High Security Prison No 1 to Iğdır S Type Closed Prison and was subjected to torture and ill-treatment as he rejects strip search at the entrance of prison, is on hunger strike since December 23, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 26, 2022 that, 2 prisoners (Fırat Gerekli and Mazhar Metin) in Iğdır S Type Prison are on hunger strike since February 16, 2022 to demand an end to right violations.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 27, 2022 that, the number of prisoners participating in the hunger strike in Tekirdağ F Type Prison No 2 which started to demand an end to right violations on January 17, 2022, is 11 now.

(02/349) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) on February 25, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

Roni Gören, provincial co-chair of the Socialist Refoundation Party (SYKP) who was detained in Istanbul on February 25, 2022 is released on the same day.

(02/351) Detained People in Van for Participating in a Protest…

It is learned that 4 students who held a protest at Van Yüzüncüyıl University, about the racist attack in Akdeniz University on February 22, 2022; are detained on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ at Van Provincial Security Directorate where they went to make their official statements on February 24, 2022.

(02/352) The Case Against HKP Chair…

The final trial of the case against the People’s Liberation Party chair Nurullah Ankut Efe on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ in a defence statement and press declaration, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 48 on February 25, 2022. The court sentenced Nurullah Ankut Efe to 2 years 2 months and 7 days, and decided to file a criminal complaint against him regarding some expressions at the trial.

(02/353) Journalist and Other People on Trial in Mersin…

The final trial of the case against 10 people including journalist Berivan Altay is held at Mersin Heavy Penal Court No 2 on February 25, 2022. The court sentenced Berivan Altay to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and to 10 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and deferred the announcement of the latest verdict. The court sentenced other defendants to 24 years 3 months and 25 days.

(02/354) Journalist and Other People on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 34 people including journalist Sadiye Eser is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 6 is held at February 25, 2022.

The indictment demands sentence for defendants on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to June 15, 2022.

(02/355) People on Trial for Protests Against New Rector Appointment to Boğaziçi University…

The trial of the case against 23 people for the demonstration held in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on February 2, 2021 to protest new rector appointment to Boğaziçi University, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 38 on February 25, 2022. After defence hearings the court refused to lift the judicial control conditions and adjourned the trial to May 12, 2022.

2 of the defendants (Anıl Akyüz and Şilan Delipalta) were arrested in February 2021 and were released by the court on April 2, 2021.

(02/356) June 5 – Diyarbakır Case…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 26, 2022 that, Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 has reversed the verdict of local court in the case against 14 police officers for ‘official misconduct’ related to the bombing attack to HDP’s rally in Diyarbakır on June 5, 2015. Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 14 has sentenced 4 police officers (Mefaret S., Akın D., Ali K. and Murat D.) to 2 months and 15 days on October 8, 2021. The retrial will begin on March 1, 2022.

It is learned that the indictment of Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office against former MP Altan Tan, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ in his expressions at a television programme on March 22, 2021, is accepted by Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 21 on February 25, 2022.

(02/358) Investigation for Justice Watch in Urfa…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 26, 2022 that, Urfa Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against Emine Şenyaşar for her justice watch in front of Urfa Courthouse. On June 14, 2018, Justice and Development Party Urfa MP candidate İbrahim Halil Yıldız and his personal guards had a quarrel with shopkeepers in Suruç district of Urfa which resulted in death of Emine Şenyaşar’s husband Hacı Esved Şenyaşar and her sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar. It is reported that there are 14 investigations Emine Şenyaşar for her justice watch so far.

(02/359) Ban of Events in Van…

Van Governorate made a declaration on February 27, 2022 and announced that, all open-door meetings and demonstrations are banned for 15 days as of February 28, 2022. It is also announced that press declarations, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions, distributing leaflets and so on will be subjected to the local authority’s permission. All events are banned in Van for 1939 days since November 21, 2016.

It is learned that the news reports about the sub-governor of Karaburun district of Izmir, published on https://www.krttv.com.tr, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://www.birgun.net websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Izmir Penal Court of Peace No 6 on February 25, 2022.

It is learned that the website of Etkin News Agency https://www.etha32.com is banned to access on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 3 on February 25, 2022.

(02/361) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 266 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 71,736 as of February 25, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 221 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 61,764 as of February 26, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 206 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 49,792 as of February 27, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 94,232 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 14,025,181 as of February 27, 2022.
