(09/262) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 24, 2020 that, 2 HPG militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Çatak district of Van on September 10, 2020.

(09/263) Person Died in Prison…

Ali Boçnak, a 76-year-old ill prisoner died in Patnos L Type Prison on September 24, 2020. It is learned that lawyers of Ali Boçnak have applied to the Constitutional Court and the Forensic Medicine Institution (ATK) for release of him however he was given a medical report by ATK, stated that his health condition was “proper for being kept in prison”.

(09/264) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1416 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on September 24, 2020 at 18.00 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(09/265) Detained Co-Mayor, Former Parliamentary Members, Executives and Members of HDP Through an Ankara Based Investigation…

On September 25, 2020, it is learned that a detention warrant through an Ankara based investigation on protests about Kobanê city which were held on October 5-8, 2014, is issued against 82 people including Kars city co-mayor Ayhan Bilgen; Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former Ankara MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, HDP former Diyarbakır MP Altan Tan, who were executive board members of HDP in 2014. Several people are detained in operations covering 7 cities. Detained people learned so far are: Kars city co-mayor Ayhan Bilgen, HDP’s Radio Television Supreme Board member Ali Ürküt, HDP Foreign Affairs Commission member Nazmi Gür, HDP former Ankara MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, HDP former Diyarbakır MP Altan Tan, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) former co-chair Emine Ayna, Rosa Women’s Association founder member Ayla Akat Ata, Can Memiş, Gülfer Akkaya, HDP executive board member Alp Altınörs, Berfin Özgü Köse, Günay Kubilay, Bircan Yorulmaz, Emine Beyza Üstün, Dilek Yağlı, Pervin Oduncu, Zeki Çelik, It is learned that detained people will not be allowed to see their lawyers for the first 24 hours following detention.

(09/266) Detained People Through an Istanbul Based Investigation…

On September 25, 2020, 24 people including Social Freedom Party (TÖP) spokesperson Perihan Koca, author Temel Demirer, journalist Hakan Gülseven, lawyer Tamer Doğan and actress Defne Halman are detained in house raids in Balıkesir, Aydın, Denizli, Diyarbakır, Tekirdağ and Ankara through an Istanbul based investigation against “Movement of the Nameless”. Journalist Hakan Gülseven is released after statement procedures on the same day. It is learned that detained 23 people will not be allowed to see their lawyers for the first 24 hours following detention. It is also reported that journalist Zeynep Kuray’s house was raided but she was not detained since she was not found home. Names of detained people learned so far are: Perihan Koca, Temel Demirer, Tamer Doğan, Defne Halman, Özen Kulaçoğlu.

Filiz Işık, former district co-chair of HDP who was detained in a house raid in Midyat district of Mardin on September 22, 2020 is arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on September 24, 2020.

(09/268) Helin Hasret Şen Case…

The trial of the case against police officer A. E., for death of 12 years old Helin Hasret Şen, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 1 on September 24, 2020. Helin Hasret Şen died due to fire opened from an armoured police vehicle on October 12, 2015, during curfew in Sur district of Diyarbakır.

After defence hearings the court decided to end the proceedings on the grounds of lack of permission to investigate the defendant police officer. It is learned that lawyers of Helin Hasret Şen’s family will appeal to the court’s verdict.

(09/269) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against journalist Fatih Portakal, on the grounds of “manipulative expressions” and “intentional expressions on banking and finance system that are contrary to facts” in his social media post, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 46 on September 24, 2020. It is learned that another indictment for the same social media post was prepared by Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office, on the charge of ‘insulting the President’. The court accepted intervention request of Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) as the complainant institution and adjourned the trial.

On September 24, 2020, 15 people are detained in Tokat and 33 people are detained in Istanbul.

It is learned that the news reports about luxe staff cars rented by Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University rector Professor Şükrü Beydemir, published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com/tr, https://odatv4.com/ and https://www.halktv.com.tr/ websites are banned to access by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 1 on September 23, 2020.

(09/272) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 74 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,721 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on September 24, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 7,785 and total number of confirmed cases is 309,790 as of September 24, 2020.

It is learned from the data shared by Mardin Chamber of Medicine that 152 people died from Covid-19 and 600 health workers are infected with Covid-19 in Mardin.

It is learned from data shared by Ankara Chamber of Medicine on September 24, 2020 that 882 health workers including 154 doctors, 91 assistant doctors, 8 intern doctors, 5 dentists, 2 workplace doctors, 163 nurses and delivery nurses, 31 primary care doctors, 7 administrative personnel, 57 medical secretaries and social workers, 11 pharmacists, 11 radiology technicians, 43 emergency medical technicians, 11 laboratory experts, 8 physiotherapists and dietitians, 5 anaesthesia technicians, 117 cleaning workers, 7 kitchen workers, 11 security staff in Ankara tested positive for Covid-19; and 5 health workers including 4 doctors died from Covid-19.

Trade Union of Employees in Public Health and Social Services (SES) Van branch made a press declaration on September 24, 2020 and announced that almost 700 people tests positive for Covid-19 on a Daily basis in Van, which makes the total number of cases around 20,000 only in Van province; and that 350 health workers are in quarantine for testing positive for Covid-19.
