(11/156) CHP Chairperson on Trial…

The final hearing of the lawsuit filed on the grounds of Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman and Manisa MP Özgür Özel, for his remarks on Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor, was held at Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance No 20 on November 24, 2025. The court sentenced Özgür Özel to 150.000TL judicial fine.

(11/157) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against journalist Zafer Arapkirli on the grounds of a social media post started on November 25, 2025 at Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No 60. The indictment demands sentence for Zafer Arapkirli on the charge of ‘insulting the President’. The court adjourned the trial to January 13, 2026.

(11/158) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Mezopotamya Agency (MA) editor Abdurrahman Gök continued on November 25, 2025 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5. The indictment demands sentence for Abdurrahman Gök on the charges of ‘being an illegal organization member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court decided to continue the judicial control measure of ban on leaving the country and adjourned the trial to February 26, 2026.

Abdurrahman Gök was detained in Diyarbakır on April 25, 2023 and arrested on April 27, 2023. The journalist was released at the hearing of the case against him at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on December 5, 2023.

(11/159) Lawyer on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against lawyer Necat Çiçek, executive board member of Lawyers’ Association for Freedom (ÖHD) Diyarbakır branch, continued on November 25, 2025 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5. The indictment demands sentence for the lawyer on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court decided to continue the ban on leaving the country and other judicial control measures against Necat Çiçek and adjourned the trial to February 24, 2026.

(11/160) People on Trial in Ankara

The trial of the case against 23 people who were detained in police intervention to the commemoration of Suruç Massacre in Ankara on July 20, 2021, is held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 68 on November 21, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for 23 people on the charge of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court adjourned the trial to January 16, 2026.
