According to news reports on July 25, 2025, a person named Sefa Bay, who reportedly fired shots into the air and then at police officers who intervened, was wounded by police gunfire and died in the hospital where he was taken. It was also reported that one police officer was injured in the incident.
The Elazığ Governor’s Office issued the following statement on the matter: “Unfortunately, early this morning in our province, a citizen under the influence of drugs engaged in various actions to provoke the police. As of now, in order to ensure the peace and safety of our citizens, he started shooting at the surroundings and was neutralized by our police. During this process, one of our police officers was unfortunately wounded in the leg.”

The indictment seeks the punishment of the 53 individuals for “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911.” The first hearing of the case will take place on August 8, 2025.
