It is learned from the news coverage of January 24, 2023 that, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former Diyarbakır provincial executive Mehmet Sayit Demir who was deported by Greece, was arrested by the court for violating the judicial control conditions and was put in Edirne F Type Prison.

A person named Hazine Oruç who was detained in a house raid in İdil district of Şırnak on January 24, 2023, is arrested by the court on the grounds of 1 year and 8 months of sentence given to her.

10 of 12 people who were detained in Bismil district of Diyarbakır on January 20, 2023, are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on January 24, 2023. 2 people are released provided that 1 of them will be on judicial control conditions. Arrested people are: İmam Aras, Fatma Aras, Ozan Oral, Hasan Koç, Rozerin Bakır, Berat Yavuz, Metin Çelik, Mahsun Erkek, İbrahim Yaprak and Vezir Patırtı.

The trial of the case against HDP Democratic Local Authorities Board member and former Edremit district co-mayor Sevil Rojbin Çetin is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on January 24, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Sevil Rojbin Çetin on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. Sevil Rojbin Çetin joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Sevil Rojbin Çetin and adjourned the trial to March 23, 2023.
Sevil Rojbin Çetin was detained on June 26, 2020 in Diyarbakır and was arrested on July 7, 2020.

The trial of the case against 50 people including 46 lawyers on the charges of “being an illegal organisation member” and “establishing and leading an illegal organisation” is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 19 on January 24, 2023. The court adjourned the trial to May 11, 2023.

The trial of the case against 12 people who were detained by the police intervening in the justice watch protest about ill prisoners, held on August 27, 2022 at Mecidiyeköy Square in Şişli district of Istanbul, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 54 on January 24, 2023. After defence hearings the court decided to send the video footage of the intervention to an expert to determine whether the police made the announcement three times before intervention; and if so, to send a writ to Istanbul Provincial Security Directorate to determine the police officer who made the announcement, and adjourned the trial to February 22, 2023.

The trial of the case against journalist Ayşegül Doğan, on the grounds of ‘establishing and leading an illegal organisation’, for the interviews she made with the executives of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and the events she participated in, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 9 on January 25, 2023. The court adjourned the trial to March 6, 2023.

The first trial of the case against journalist Nazlan Ertan on the grounds of ‘disclosure and publishing the identities of and thus targeting the public officials who took part in the fight against terrorism’ and ‘insulting a public official due to their duty’ by a social media post, is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No. 21 on January 24, 2023. The court acquitted Nazlan Ertan.

The trial of the case against Yavuz Saltık, head of Local Authorities of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 14 on January 25, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Yavuz Saltık on the charge of ‘knowingly and willingly aiding an illegal organization without being a member of it’. It is learned that the court board did not allow journalists into the courtroom. After defence and witness hearings, the court decided to lift the ban of leaving country for Yavuz Saltık and adjourned the trial to March 29, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 24, 2023, that Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office decided non-prosecution about the criminal complaint of Dilbent Türker, a member of the central executive committee of the All Automotive and Metal Workers Union (TOMİS), regarding the police violence which broke her leg during the police intervention against the march held in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on November 25, 2022.

It is learned that 10 people were detained in Istanbul on January 25, 2023.
