Senem Eriş, Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Party Assembly member and Young Women Coordination member who was detained in Istanbul on February 20, 2025 is released by the criminal court of peace on judicial control conditions on February 24, 2025.
(02/233) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…
The final hearing of the case against journalist Evrim Kepenek for a social media post about the earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023 and affected 11 provinces was held on February 24, 2025 at Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No 13. The indictment demands the journalist to be sentenced for ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’. The court acquitted Evrim Kepenek.

The trial of the case against writer Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör, based on a social media post she made, started on February 24, 2025 at Istanbul Anadolu Criminal Court of First Instance No 91. The indictment demands sentence for Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör on the charge of ‘insulting the President’. The court released Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör and adjourned the trial to March 11, 2025.
Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör was detained on January 30, 2025 and was arrested by the criminal court of peace on January 31, 2025.

It is learned that the indictment of Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office against Zafer Party Chair Ümit Özdağ, on the grounds of insulting the President of the Republic in his speech at a meeting of his party in Antalya, which was sent to Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 35, was rejected by the court on February 24, 2025 on the grounds of lack of jurisdiction and sent to Antalya Penal Court of First Instance.
Ümit Özdağ was arrested on January 21, 2025.

Şırnak Governorate made a declaration on February 25, 2025 and announced that Gabar Mountain, Bestler Dereler, Cudi Mountain, Kurt Mountain, Kelmehmetler, Dönmezler, Kovankaya, Tahtareş, İncebeldağları, Altındağlar Oyakaya areas in the central, Güçlükonak, Silopi, Cizre, Uludere and Beytüşşebap districts of Şırnak province have been declared as temporary security zones for 15 days between February 26, 2025 and March 12, 2025.

On February 25, 2025, 14 people were detained in operations conducted in 4 provinces through an Ankara based investigation on the allegations of being a part of the so-called “intimate services” structure within the Air Forces Command.
