It is learned that 2 prisoners, Fergil Fırat and Celal Punar, who were on hunger strike since December 5, 2025 demanding to be transferred from Tekirdağ Çorlu High Security Prison to another prison, suspended their hunger strike on December 24, 2025 after their demand for transfer was processed.
(12/140) Prisoners’ Release Adjourned by Prison Administration and Observation Board Decision…
On December 24, 2025, it is learned from the news coverage of December 24, 2025 that, Hasan Durak, a prisoner in Samsun S Type Prison, had completed the execution of his prison sentence, but his release was adjourned for 3 months by the Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK) on the grounds of ‘not breaking away from the organization’. Hasan Durak’s release had been adjourned twice before for a total of 12 months.

Ozan Deniz Ödemiş, member of Youth Committees, who was detained on December 23, 2025 on the allegations of insulting the President, is arrested by the criminal court of peace on December 24, 2025.

The retrial of the case against Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Turkey Representative Erol Önderoğlu, writer Ahmet Nesin, former chair of Turkish Medical Association (TTB) Central Council and Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) board member Prof. Dr. Şebnem Korur Fincancı, for participating in the “Editor-in-Chief on Watch” campaign to support Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13. The acquittal verdict of the case at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 is reversed by Criminal Chamber No 3 of Istanbul Regional Court of Appeals on November 1, 2020 and the retrial of the case is held on December 25, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for 3 people on the charges of ‘inciting to commit crime’, ‘praising crime and offender’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court adjourned the trial to March 31, 2026.

The retrial of the case against journalist Perihan Kaya for her professional activities and social media posts continued on December 24, 2025 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10. The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on the charges of ‘being an illegal organization member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court adjourned the trial to January 7, 2026.
Journalist Perihan Kaya was sentenced to 1 year and 3 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ and acquitted on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’ in the case against her at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10. The verdict was overturned by the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeals on the grounds that ‘the sentence was incomplete’.

The trial of the case against Ramazan Ölçen, publisher of Azadiya Welat, a Kurdish daily newspaper closed down by a state of emergency decree, continued on December 24, 2025 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 11. The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court adjourned the trial to April 22, 2026.

The trial of the lawsuit filed against journalist Ceren Sözeri due to the complaint of Serhat Albayrak, Deputy Chairman of Turkuvaz Media Group, for her article titled “Who made AKP lose votes” continued on December 24, 2025 at Istanbul 2nd Commercial Court of First Instance. The court adjourned the trial to May 13, 2026.

The trial of the case known as “Diyarbakır KCK Main Case” against 38 people including Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former Mardin MP Pero Dündar and former Van MP Tayip Temel, continued on December 23, 2025 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 2. The court adjourned the trial to July 14, 2026.

The trial of the case against 53 people who were detained during the police intervention against 23rd Istanbul Pride March on June 29, 2025, continued on December 24, 2025 at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 51.
The indictment demands sentence for 53 people on the charge of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’.
The court adjourned the trial to June 5, 2026.
Detainees Sinem Çelebi, Hivda Selen and Doğan Nur were arrested on June 30, 2025; Doğan Nur was released on July 30, 2025 with a summary judgment and Sinem Çelebi and Hivda Selen were released at the first hearing of the case on August 8, 2025.

It is learned that 3 news reports about Yunus Emre Foundation on https://haber.sol.org.tr/, https://12punto.com.tr/, https://www.evrensel.net/ websites are banned to access on the grounds of ‘protection of national security and public order’ under Article 8/A of Law No 5651.
