On August 24, 2022, a prisoner (Gökhan Efe, 33) died in Istanbul Silivri L Type Prison No. 4. It is learned that the prison administration has told his family that Gökhan Efe’s heart failed while he was exercising in his ward.

It is learned that the appeal made on August 25, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.
(08/224) Torture and Il-Treatment Under Custody in Ordu…
It is learned that 9 people who were detained by the police using physical violence to intervene in in the funeral for Gökhan Gür, held in Perşembe district of Ordu on August 24, were taken to the District Security Directorate before medical examination and that the police did not release their handcuffs and did not leave the room during the medical examination that take place afterwards.

The police used pepper spray to intervene in the funeral for Gökhan Gür, who died due to heart attack on August 22, 2022; held in Perşembe district of Ordu on August 24, 2022 and detained 9 people on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. 3 of the detainees were released after statement procedures while 6 of them are released by the court on judicial control conditions on August 24, 2022.

The police used physical violence to intervene in the protest of ETF Textile factory workers, demanding unpaid severance and bonus payments, in Tuzla district of Istanbul on August 25, 2022. It is learned that nobody was detained but at least 4 people were injured.

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 24, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.
(08/228) Detained Musician Istanbul…
It is learned that an investigation was launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on the charge of ‘inciting hatred and hostility among people or degrading’, against musician Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu over her expressions at a concert, and that a detention warrant was issued for Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu as part of the investigation.
Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu was detained in Istanbul on August 25, 2022 and was referred to the court.

It is learned that an investigation was launched on the charge of ‘degrading a section of the public on grounds of social class, race, religion, sect, gender or regional differences’, against Birgün newspaper’s coordinator journalist İbrahim Varlı over a social media post he shared in 2022; and that İbrahim Varlı made his official statement through the investigation on August 25, 2022.

The concert to be held by the Human Rights Association (İHD) Mersin branch on September 2, 2022, as part of the World Peace Day events, was banned by the Mersin Governorship on August 24, 2022.

It is learned that the news reports about the ban of access to the news reports about the attempt to ban various news with fake court decisions, published on https://www.diken.com.tr, https://sendika.org and https://www.gazeteduvar.com.tr websites, and 2 social media posts of Professor Yaman Akdeniz, and a YouTube vide of the Freedom of Expression Association are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Maraş Pazarcık Penal Court of Peace on August 24, 2022.
It is learned that the news report about the vigil held to protest the Geothermal Power Plant plan in Mezeköy neighbourhood of Köşk district of Aydın, published on https://www.evrensel.net website is banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Aydın Penal Court of Peace No. 1 on August 24, 2022.
