According to news reports on October 24, 2025, it was learned that a prisoner named Cihan Talak, who was being held in Van M Type Prison, had lost his life. News reports claim that the cause of death was suicide.

According to news reports on October 24, 2025, it was learned that 58 prisoners were being held in cells with a capacity of 28 people at Ankara Sincan No. 1 L Type Prison.

According to news reports on October 24, 2025, it was learned that the release of Elif Vural, an inmate held at Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s Prison who had completed her life sentence, was postponed for the third time by decision of the Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK).

It was learned that journalists Abdurrahman Fırat, Aziz Özden, Uğur Eser, and Yusuf Konrat were subjected to physical violence by unidentified individuals while covering news in Aydın on October 25, 2025, that one journalist was injured, and that the journalists’ phones were stolen.
(10/175) Police Intervention in Protests in Ankara and Istanbul…
On October 26, 2025, police intervened against those gathered for a protest in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul against discriminatory regulations targeting LGBT+ individuals in the 11th Judicial Package, detaining two people. Those detained were released on October 27, 2025, by the magistrate’s court to which they were referred, under judicial supervision.
For the same reason, police intervened in a march held in the Çankaya district of Ankara on October 26, 2025, and detained one person. It was reported that one person was injured as a result of the intervention.

It was learned that journalist İbrahim Türk, who was covering the march held in Ankara’s Çankaya district on October 26, 2025, against discriminatory regulations targeting LGBT+ individuals in the 11th Judicial Package, was subjected to physical violence by the police and prevented from taking pictures.

According to news reports on October 26, 2025, six high school students in Izmir were detained, one from their home and five from their school, on the grounds of social media posts. News reports stated that the reason for the detention was social media posts showing the children dancing the halay to Kurdish music. It was reported that the person who made the social media post was arrested, while the five people shown dancing the halay in the video were released.

On October 18, 2025, citing a march held in Diyarbakır as grounds, six people, including one child, who were members of the Youth Assembly of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) and were detained during house raids in Diyarbakır on October 21, 2025, were arrested by the criminal court of first instance to which they were referred on October 24, 2025.

Tele 1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ and Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu were arrested on October 26, 2024, by the magistrate’s court to which they were referred on charges of “espionage.” It was learned that another person named Necati Özkan was also arrested as part of the same investigation.

On October 24, 2024, it was learned that five members of the Democratic Youth Councils were detained during house raids in Istanbul. On October 24, 2025, five individuals were referred to the magistrate’s court on charges of “resisting to prevent the performance of duty.” Two of them were arrested, while three were released under judicial supervision.

Eight journalists (Zeynep Kuray, Hayri Tunç, Gökhan Kam, Emre Orman, Ali Onur Tosun, Kurtuluş Arı, Bülent Kılıç, Yasin Akgül) was heard on October 24, 2025, at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 62. The indictment seeks to punish the journalists for “violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations.” The court postponed the hearing until November 27, 2025.

The trial of journalist Öznur Değer, which was opened at the Mardin Midyat Criminal Court of First Instance No. 1, began on October 24, 2025. The indictment seeks to punish the journalist for the crime of “insulting a public official.” The court postponed the hearing until February 10, 2026.

It was learned that an investigation was launched by the Van Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalists Öznur Değer and Dilan Babat, citing their reporting on the death of Rojin Kabaiş, and that the journalists gave statements as part of the investigation.

The final hearing of the case filed at the Istanbul Büyükçekmece Criminal Court of First Instance No. 10 against seven individuals, including Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, on the grounds of a tender held during İmamoğlu’s term as Beylikdüzü Mayor, was held on October 24, 2025. The court ruled to acquit Ekrem İmamoğlu.

It was learned that Utku Cihan, Mayor of Hopa district in Artvin, went to the Hopa District Police Headquarters on October 24, 2025, to give a statement as part of an investigation launched against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

The trial of the former President and Board members of the İzmir Bar Association, which was opened at the İzmir Heavy Penal Court No. 20, continued on October 24, 2025. The court postponed the hearing until February 6, 2026.

According to news reports on October 23, 2025, an investigation was launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against Canan Kaftancıoğlu, former Istanbul Provincial Chair of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), on the grounds of her social media posts about the President. It was learned that Canan Kaftancıoğlu went to the Istanbul Provincial Police Headquarters to give a statement as part of the investigation.

The trial of 49 people at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 70, who were charged for participating in protests at Saraçhane Square in the Fatih district of Istanbul to protest the arrest and detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, continued on October 24, 2025. The indictment seeks to punish the defendants for “violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations.” The court postponed the hearing to a later date.

The trial of 7 individuals at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 19, who were charged with shouting slogans at a rally held on the 100th day of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu’s detention, continued on October 24, 2025. The indictment seeks punishment for the seven individuals for “violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations” and “insulting the President.” The court postponed the hearing until January 23, 2026.

The final hearing of the case filed at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 43 against the host Boğaç Soydemir and guest Enes Akgündüz of the program “Soğuk Savaş” (Cold War), broadcast on YouTube, was held on October 24, 2025, on the grounds of a joke made on the program. The court sentenced the two individuals to 7 months and 15 days in prison for “publicly inciting the public to hatred and hostility through the press and media” and postponed the announcement of the verdict. The court also ruled that the two individuals be released upon sentencing.
Boğaç Soydemir and Enes Akgündüz were arrested on September 23, 2025.

The decision hearing for the lawsuit filed with the Ankara Civil Court of First Instance No. 42, seeking the cancellation of the CHP’s 38th Ordinary Congress held on November 4-5, 2023, and its 21st Extraordinary Congress held on April 6, 2025, was held on October 24, 2025.
The court ruled to dismiss the case on the grounds of “lack of active dispute” and “the case becoming moot.”
(10/192) Television Channel Placed Under Trustee…
It was learned that on October 24, 2025, a trustee was appointed to the Tele1 TV channel, where journalist Merdan Yanardağ is the editor-in-chief, as part of the investigation against him.
News reports on October 25, 2025, revealed that the channel’s YouTube account had been closed by the trustee decision and that the posts published on the account had been deleted.

The Istanbul Governor’s Office announced on October 26, 2025, that open-air meetings, demonstrations, setting up tents, opening stands, sit-ins, signature campaigns, memorial ceremonies, and distributing flyers are prohibited in the districts of Beyoğlu, Bayrampaşa, Kağıthane, and Şişli districts, effective October 26, 2025, for a period of one day.

It has been learned that access to a social media post by journalist Devrim Gürkan about the former President of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has been blocked by a decision of the Ankara 4th Criminal Court of Peace dated October 24, 2025, on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.
