(06/291) Person Died by Police Fire in Istanbul…

It is learned that a person named Oktay Yeşilırmak, who allegedly fired at the police officers who warned him on the grounds that he opened fire in the air from his house on the second floor in Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul on June 26, 2022, died as a result of the fire opened by a police officer named Y. A.

Istanbul Governorate’s Office made the following statement: “It is understood as a result of investigation that police Officers (Y. A.), (D. T.) and (M. M. Ş.) who were working in the Provincial Security Directorate were guests at their colleague’s (T. Ç.) house, and they have called to the 112 emergency line to report that they heard gunshots and fights on the street; that they have warned the person who went out and shot from the window of the house on the 2nd floor, and that the person named (O. Y.) died as a result of the fire opened by the police officer (Y. A.) after the person fired towards them.”

It is learned from the news coverage of June 25, 2022 that, 2 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Zap area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on May 28, 2022.

(06/293) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Mardin…

It is claimed in the news coverage of June 25, 2022 that 3 people including 2 children [Dildar Mecid Süleyman (18), D. M. S. (16), M. H. (16)] who were detained by the soldiers at the Turkish-Syrian border in Mardin, on the grounds of allegedly trying to enter Turkey illegally, were subjected to torture and other ill-treatment. It was reported that 3 people were injured in various parts of their bodies due to torture and other ill-treatment.

One of them, D. M. S., stated the following to the press: “I, my brother and a friend went to the border from here, we crossed the wall. They fired bullets and took us to where there was a bridge. Then they started beating us. It was evening when they noticed us. “Are you Kurdish or Syrian?” they asked. Then they asked, “Are you a Muslim?” (…) I fainted twice. They beat us until we passed out. It took about 1 hour. They beat us with wood and iron pipe. Then they threw us there, we gain consciousness later (…) Then we went to the hospital. Right now my foot is broken, I have stitches on the back of my head.”

(06/294) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 25, 2022, that a person named Ö. A. was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment on the street after an argument with 2 police officers in Şile district of Istanbul. It is reported that Ö. A. was injured as a result of the torture and other ill-treatment, and was taken to the hospital. It is learned that Ö. A. filed a criminal complaint against the responsible police officers.

(06/295) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Hakkari…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 26, 2022, that 20 people, including 2 children and Iranian citizens, who were detained in house raids in the villages of Yüksekova district of Hakkari, were subjected to torture and other ill-treatment. It is also claimed in the news reports that 13 of the detainees were taken to the ongoing military operation site in the region.

The names of detained people learned so far are: Zozan Turgut, N. T. (8, f), Rahmi Turgut, Rojhat Turgut, Deniz Turgut, Necmettin Turgut, Nedim Turgut, Izzettin Turgut, Behçet Engüdar, Fırat Engüdar, Demhat Engüdar, Birhat Engüdar and Özgür Engüdar.

11 of the detainees were released on the same day.

(06/296) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Hakkari …

It is learned from the news coverage of June 26, 2022, that 2 lawyers who went to Yüksekova District Gendarmerie Station to see 20 people who were allegedly subjected to torture and other ill-treatment and were taken to the military operation site after being detained in Yüksekova district of Hakkari, were forced to leave the station by gendarmerie using physical violence.

Harika Günay Karataş, co-chair of the Hakkari branch of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD), who was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment, stated the following to the press: “While we were going to meet with our clients, as they were taken to the rooms and being beaten, we intervened and they intervened us afterwards. (…) We were beaten, we were tortured to be taken out of the police station, we were dragged on the ground. We were dragged across the floor and put in our car. We were forced to leave the station as they harassed, cursed and followed us with a military vehicle.”

(06/297) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Adana…

It is learned that 2 people (Mehmet Sait Dikmen and Mehmet Emin Dikmen) were subjected to physical and verbal violence during a house raid by the police in Adana on June 27, 2022.

It is claimed that during another house raid in Adana on the same date, a woman was locked in a room and forced to strip search.

(06/298) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 25, 2022 that, in Diyarbakır T Type Prison at least 6 prisoners were subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the correction officers during ward searches and that 1 person injured themselves and was not taken to the hospital.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 26, 2022 that, PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı Prison was given the penalty of prevention from family visits for 3 months on May 31, 2022.

(06/299) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on June 27, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(06/300) Interventions and Bans on Pride Month Events…

Izmir Governorate’s Office made a statement on June 24, 2022 and announced that the events and demonstrations as part of LGBTI+ Pride Month are banned for 3 days as of June 24, 2022.

It is learned that before the 20th Pride March to be held in Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district on June 26, 2022, Şişhane and Taksim metro stations were closed, some services were cancelled, and many roads to Taksim were closed to traffic by the decision of the Istanbul Governorate’s Office.

It is learned that before the march, the police used physical violence against and detained LGBTI+s sitting in cafes in the area where the march will be held. Despite the intervention, it is learned that LGBTI+s came together and made several press statements. The police also intervened in these statements. During the day-long interventions in Beyoğlu and around, 373 people, including 34 children, were detained. It is reported that the detainees were also subjected to torture and other ill-treatment in the detention vehicles, the air conditioners of the vehicles were turned off, the detainees were not given water and food, and the medications were not given to those who has to use them. It is also stated in the news reports that the lawyers who went to Istanbul Provincial Security Directorate to meet with the detainees were also subjected to physical violence by the police and were not allowed to meet with those detained for a long time. During the interventions, it is learned that the police also forced the journalists away from the area by using physical violence and also detained AFP photo-journalist Bülent Kılıç. Detained people are released.

The police intervened the Pride March held in Izmir on June 26, 2022 and detained 8 people including an apprentice lawyer by using physical violence. Detained people are released on the same day.

(06/301) Police Intervention to Saturday Mothers’ Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the people including the Human Rights Association (HRA) co-chairs, parliamentary members, lawyers who march to the Galatasaray Square for the 900th gathering of Saturday Mothers on June 25, 2022 and detained 16 people by using physical violence and handcuffing them behind their backs.

Detained People are: HRA co-chairs Eren Keskin and Öztürk Türkdoğan, HRA İstanbul branch chair Gülseren Yoleri, Hanife Yıldız, Besna Tosun, Jiyan Tosun, Maside Ocak, Ali Ocak, İrfan Bilgin, Hasan Karakoç, İkbal Eren, Mikail Kırbayır, Zeynep Çelik, Arat Dink, Jiyan Kaya, Davut Arslan.

Detained people are released on the same day.

(06/302) Detained Deputy Mayor, Political Party Executive and Other People in Adana…

It is learned that 35 people including deputy mayor of Seyhan Municipality Funda Buyruk, HDP Adana Provincial co-chairs Helin Kaya and Mehmet Karakış, the Democratic Regions Party Çukurova co-spokespersons Şilan Turğa and Enver Güler are detained in the operations covering 4 cities through an Adana based investigation on June 27, 2022.

(06/303) Detained Person in Çanakkale…

HDP Istanbul MP Hüda Kaya’s son, Muhammed Cihad Cemre, is detained by the police raiding his house in Bayramiç of Çanakkale on June 25, 2022. The reason for his detention is unknown.

(06/304) Arrested People in Tekirdağ for ‘Insulting the President’…

2 people who were detained in Kapaklı district of Tekirdağ on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ are arrested by the court on June 27, 2022.

(06/305) The Case Against HRA Co-Chair…

The final trial of the case against Öztürk Türkdoğan, co-chair of the Human Rights Association (IHD) on the grounds of ‘insult’ by the expressions in the declaration about the Interior Minister, published on the association’s website in 2018, is held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 60, on June 27, 2022. The court acquitted Öztürk Türkdoğan.

(06/306) The Case Against Party Chair…

Erkan Baş, the chair of the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP), is sentenced to pay a compensation of 20,000 Turkish Liras by the court in the case against him for his remarks about the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cengiz Holding at the press conference held in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on December 22, 2020.

(06/307) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 22 people for the protest held in 2018 as part of the 25 November Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is held on June 24, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for 22 people on the charge of “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations” and for 2 people on the charge of “resistance to the police”. After defence hearings, the court adjourned the trial to October 21, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 24, 2022, that the gendarmerie took action against 23 people on the grounds of their social media posts about forest fires in Marmaris and Köyceğiz districts of Muğla.

(06/309) Ankara JİTEM Case…

Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 1 has acquitted former Interior Minister Mehmet Ağar, İbrahim Şahin, Korkut Eken, Ayhan Çarkın, Ayhan Akça, Ziya Bandırmalıoğlu, Ercan Ersoy, Ahmet Demirel, Ayhan Özkan, Seyfettin Lap, Enver Ulu, Uğur Şahin, Alper Tekdemir, Yusuf Yüksel, Abbas Semih Sueri, Lokman Külünk, Mahmut Yıldırım, Nurettin Güven, Muhsin Korman, on the case known as “Ankara JİTEM case”, regarding the unidentified murders committed in and around Ankara between 1993 and 1996. Ankara Regional Court Penal Department No 1 has overturned the local court’s verdict and ruled a retrial. The retrial is held on June 24, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to September 16, 2022.

It is learned that the police raided and searched Binevş Cultural Center in Adana on June 27, 2022, through an Adana based investigation.

(06/311) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that the news reports about the Director of Information Processing Center of Boğaziçi University, published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://www.diken.com.tr websites are banned to access on the grounds of ‘violation of personal rights’ by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 10 on June 24, 2022.
