(12/244) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 24, 2021 that, in Tekirdağ F Type Prison No 2, prisoners are forced to change wards, some prisoners are put in single wards and the open area of the wards are covered with nets, and the heating does not work in wards.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 25, 2021 that, in Mersin Tarsus T Type Prison, the heating does not work for 20 days and prisoners are not given hot water.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 26, 2021 that, Yasin Eneç, a prisoner in Tekirdağ F Type Prison No 2 were subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the correction officers on December 17, 2021 and has scalp fractures, he was taken to a hospital after being kept in the isolated padded cell for 3 hours. It is reported that his petitions to the Ministry of Justice, the prosecutor’s office and to the Grand National Assembly Human Rights Commission about the torture were seized, and he was subjected to 4 disciplinary proceedings.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 26, 2021 that, in Kocaeli Gebze Women’s Closed Prison, personal belongings of the prisoners were seized during ward searches, and the open areas were closed due to Covid-19 pandemic.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 26, 2021 that, in Diyarbakır D Type Prison, wards were searched with dogs, prisoners were subjected to physical and verbal violence of the correction officers and their personal belongings were seized.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 26, 2021 that, in Ankara Sincan Women’s Closed Prison, prisoners were not given Evrensel newspaper, the number of clothes per prison were limited, the food given to prisoners is inadequate, prisoners cannot provide sanitary pads and the letters sent to them were delivered with delay.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 25, 2021 that, Yusuf Akbaba, an ill prisoner in Denizli T Type Prison is not receiving medical treatment.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 25, 2021 that, 12 ill prisoners (Mehmet Özen, İsmail Tüzün, Ekrem Beydoğan, Mehmet Zahir Şahin, Mashar Güler, Kemal Özelmalı, Harun Kaya, İbrahim Karakaş, Mehmet Şerif Çalış, İbrahim Algan, Ercan Yıldız, Özgür Aydın) in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison were not being referred to hospitals and cannot receive medical treatment since June, for they reject in-mouth search.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 26, 2021 that prisoners in Kocaeli Gebze Women’s Closed Prison were not given face masks and cleaning supplies for protection from Covid-19 pandemic.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 24, 2021 that, Sibel Balaç, a prisoner in Ankara Sincan Women’s Closed Prison is on hunger strike since December 19, 2021 to protest right violations.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 26, 2021 that, Veysel Işık, a prisoner in Balıkesir Burhaniye T Type Prison is on hunger strike since December 6, 2021 to protest torture and ill-treatment.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 26, 2021 that, Gökhan Yıldırım, a prisoner in Tekirdağ F Type Prison No 1 is on hunger strike since December 25, 2021 to protest right violations.

(12/247) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on December 23, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit him was not responded.

It is learned that the appeal made on December 24, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(12/248) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration of the Association of Families of Prisoners (TAYAD) demanding release of ill prisoner Ali Osman Köse, at Taksim Square in Istanbul on December 25, 2021; and detained 2 people (Coşkun Öztekin and Nergis Doğru) by using physical violence. Detained people are released on the same day.

(12/249) Police Prevention to a Protest in Mardin…

The police prevented the press declaration of Mardin Şahmaran Women’s Platform to protest sexual harassment, sexual assault and femicide on December 25, 2021. It is learned that the police prevented the protest in front of Nusaybin office of the Confederation of Public Employee’s’ Unions (KESK) on the grounds of the governorate’s ban on events, and the press declaration was held at the office.

(12/250) Police Intervention to Workers Hanging a Banner in Istanbul…

The police intervened Bakırköy Municipality workers who are on strike, hanging a banner at Boğaziçi Bridge to protest the municipality on December 26, 2021 and detained 10 people.

(12/251) Police Intervention to HDK Members Distributing Leaflets in Mersin…

The police intervened members of the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) who were distributing leaflets about the economic crisis in Yenişehir district of Mersin on December 25, 2021. It is learned that the police attempted to close the stand and seize the leaflets, and detained 4 members of HDK on the grounds of ‘resisting a police officer on duty’. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

(12/252) Detained HDP Executives and Members and Other People in Van…

On December 24, 2021, at least 13 people including members and executives of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) are detained in house raids in central and Özalp districts of Van. The names of detained people learned so far are: HDP Özalp district co-chair Sakine Kutpınar, district executive Kenan Özmaya, HDP Youth Assembly members Derviş Hazır, Şakir Tosun, Zana İşler and Cevdet Güçlü, Aslan Ayaz, Şemsettin Akyol, Kudret Akyol, Ayhan Kılınç, Ali Bağcı, Übeyt Öranlı and Bori Şanlı.

(12/253) Detained HDP Executives and Members in Diyarbakır…

On December 26, 2021, 11 people are detained on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, as they were leaving the congress of HDP Youth Assembly in Diyarbakır. It is also reported that the vehicle of HDP Yenişehir office was seized by the police. The names of detained people learned so far are: Hilal Ada, Hüsamettin Tanrıkulu, Selahattin Sipek, Ferman Dar, Kamuran Kılgı, Azad Taş, Abdulkadir Atal, Baver Yardımcı, Fırat Aslan, Metin Sesigüzel, Bedirhan Akyıldız.

(12/254) Investigation Against HDP Executives…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 25, 2021 that, Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office asked permission of the Ministry of Justice to launch an investigation against 26 members of the central executive board of HDP. It is learned that the investigation is on the charge of “publicly degrading Turkish Nation, State of the Turkish Republic, Turkish Grand National Assembly, the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the judicial bodies of the state”, by using “Armenian Genocide” expression in the press declaration made on April 24, 2021.

(12/255) Investigation Against Left Party Executive…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 25, 2021 that, an investigation was launched against Murat Güzel, Keçiören district chair of the Left Party, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ by sharing a picture of Hıdır Aslan, who was executed after the military coup in 1980, on social media. It is learned that Murat Güzel made his official statement to Ankara Provincial Directorate of Security.

(12/256) Investigation Against People in Ankara…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 25, 2021 that, the investigation launched by Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office against 64 people, has concluded in non-prosecution on December 9, 2021. 64 people were detained by the police intervening the protest in Ankara against the new rector appointed to Boğaziçi University on February 2, 2021.

(12/257) Gezi/Çarşı Case…

It is learned that on December 23, 2021 Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 has carried out the monthly examination of arrest, regarding the Gezi/Çarşı case against 52 people for Gezi Park protests in 2013; and decided to continue detention of businessperson Osman Kavala. It is learned that one member of the court board has expressed a dissenting opinion, on the grounds that “Osman Kavala has made his defence declaration, the evidence is gathered and there is no possibility for him to spoil the evidence from now on”.

(12/258) The Case Against Association Members in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against 2 members of the Sarmaşık Association for Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development (Mahmut Erinç and Haydar Kılıçoğlu) is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 on December 23, 2021. The court sentenced 2 people to 5 years each on the charge of ‘aiding an illegal organisation’ and then reduced the sentenced to 2 years and 1 month.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 24, 2021 that, Tunahan Gözlügöl, a student of METU, is sentenced to 8 months on the charge of ‘insult’, upon complaint of METU rector Verşan Kök for a social media post he shared.

(12/260) Ministry of Interior Inspection on Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality…

The Ministry of Interior has announced on December 26, 2021 that it launched a special inspection into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality upon “notifications and findings that some of the municipality personnel are in connection or coherent with terror organizations.”

The news reports about a teacher’s violence against a student in Aksaray, are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Aksaray Penal Court of Peace No 2 on December 24, 2021.

It is learned that Mersin Public Prosecutor’s Office banned the leaflet “We Cannot Live on” of the HDK provincial assembly on December 25, 2021.

(12/263) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 133 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 18,910 as of December 24, 2021.

The Ministry of Health declared that 145 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 20,470 as of December 25, 2021.

The Ministry of Health declared that 173 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 20,138 as of December 26, 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 81,403 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 9,286,986 as of December 26, 2021.

It is learned that pharmacist Nüket Mermer in Adana lost her life due to Covid-19 on December 24, 2021.
