(09/196) Refugee/Migrant Worker Died in Istanbul…

On September 23, 2025, it is learned from the news coverage of September 23, 2025 that, Nicolai Palamarcıuc, a Moldovan citizen, was detained and subjected to physical violence by people who were reported to be relatives of the owner of the workplace where he worked, and died in hospital.

It is reported that 4 people (Y.K.A., K.Ç., C.Ç. and R.K.) are detained in relation to the incident.

(09/197) The Prisoners whose Release is Adjourned by Prison Administration and Monitoring Board…

On September 24, 2025 it is learned from the news coverage of September 24, 2025 that, the release of Rizgar Turhan, a prisoner in Afyon T Type Prison No 1, who completed the execution of his life sentence, was adjourned for 3 months by Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK) on the grounds of lack of remorse and books he wrote in prison.

(09/198) Police Intervention to a Protest in Hatay…

On September 24, 2025, the police intervened the people protesting in Kurtderesi neighbourhood of Samandağ district of Hatay, against seizure of land for housing construction. It is learned that no one was detained and at least 1 person was wounded during the intervention.

(09/199) HDP Former Co-Chair on Trial…

The first trial of the case against Selahattin Demirtaş, former co-chair of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), for his speeches at press declarations and rallies in 2016, started on September 24, 2025 at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 18.

The indictment demands sentence for Selahattin Demirtaş on the charges of ‘denigrating the State and Government of the Republic of Turkey’, ‘inciting people to hatred and hostility’, ‘inciting to commit crime’, ‘praising crime and criminal’ and ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court adjourned the trial to January 19, 2026.

(08/200) Former Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and Other People on Trial in Izmir…

The first hearing of the lawsuit filed against 65 people, 11 of whom are arrested, including former Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer and former Republican People’s Party (CHP) Izmir Provincial Organization Chairman Şenol Aslanoğlu, was held at Izmir 23rd Heavy Penal Court between September 19 and September 23, 2025. The indictment demands 65 people to be sentenced for ‘qualified fraud’. The court released 5 people, decided to continue detention of 6 people including Tunç Soyer and adjourned the trial to October 13, 2025.

11 people were arrested on July 4, 2025.

(09/201) Human Rights Defenders and Other People on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 14 lawyers including Human Rights Association (IHD) Co-Chair Eren Keskin, IHD Istanbul Branch Secretary Jiyan Kaya, IHD Istanbul Branch Co-Chair Gülizar Tuncer, IHD Istanbul Branch lawyer Gülizar Tuncer, who were detained during the police intervention to the protest against the refusal to give a mazba to Van Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Abdullah Zeydan, started on September 24, 2025 at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 29. The indictment demands sentence for the lawyers on the charges of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’, ‘damaging public property’, ‘resisting to prevent duty’. The court decided to send a writ to the Ministry of Justice for permission to investigate and to suspend the proceedings.

(09/202) Magazine Executive and Other Person on Trial in Istanbul…

On September 23, 2025, the first hearing of the case against Songül Yücel, editor-in-chief of Önsöz Magazine, and Muhammed Hizmetçi, representative of Struggle Unity Platform, who were detained and arrested before May 1, 2025 celebrations, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 25. The indictment demands sentence for 2 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court released Songül Yücel and Muhammed Hizmetçi and adjourned the trial.

The trial of the case against TÜSİAD Chairman Orhan Turan and TÜSİAD High Advisory Council Chairman Ömer Aras continued on September 23, 2025 at Istanbul 28th Criminal Court of First Instance. The indictment demands sentence for 2 people on the charges of ‘attempting to influence a fair trial’ and ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’. The court adjourned the hearing to January 20, 2026.

(09/204) Closed Student Clubs…

On September 23, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of September 23, 2025 that 11 student clubs and societies at Yıldız Technical University, including Theatre, Women’s Studies and Cinema clubs, were closed down or suspended for a semester by the Department of Health, Culture and Sports.

The clubs and societies that were closed or suspended are: Astronomy Club, Physics Club, Debate and Negotiation Club, Photography Club, Women’s Studies Club, Meditek, Theater Club, Cinema Club, Animal Rights Club, Philosophy Club, Science Fiction and Fantasy Club.

It is learned that 6 news articles on the websites https://bianet. org/ , https://t24.com .tr/ , https://www. egedesonsoz.com/ , https://serbestiyet.com/ , https://www.superhaber.com/, where the brother of Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü, known as Cübbeli Ahmet Hoca, is mentioned, are banned to access on the grounds of national security and protection of public order by the decision of Istanbul 5th Criminal Judicature of Peace dated September 19, 2025.
