(09/212) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of September 22, 2021 that, Uğur Boztaş and Serdar Güzel were transferred to Kırıkkale F Type Prison; Nimetullah Cinkılıç was transferred to Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison; and Abdulhalik Kaplan was transferred to Bolu F Type Prison from Diyarbakır High Security Prison No 1 under coercion.
(09/213) Police Intervention to Workers’ Protest in Tekirdağ…
The police intervened the workers of Bel Karper and Adkotürk companies who are on strike in Tekirdağ, as they were in front of the Governorate’s Office building to meet the governor on September 23, 2021. It is learned that 58 people were detained by physical violence and at least 1 person (union organiser Yunus Durdu) was injured. Detained people are released after statement procedures on September 24, 2021.

The police intervened the protest of the Socialist Youth Associations’ Federation (SGDF) members for their housing rights, in front of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) office in Izmir, on September 23, 2021. The police detained 3 people (Gamze Toprak, İsmail Temel, Tuncay Yıldırım).
The police prevented the protests of students in Ankara.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly and Party Assembly member Betül Ünsal, is detained at Ankara Courthouse where she went to make her official statement through an investigation against her on September 23, 2021. Betül Ünsal is arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The trial of the case against 108 members and executives 28 of whom are arrestees including HDP former co-chairs, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 22 on September 20-23, 2021.
It is learned that journalists and other people came to attend the trial were not allowed in the courtroom on September 20, 2021.
The trial which was to be held on September 21, 2021 is adjourned to September 23, 2021 as the chief judge was a contact of a Covid-19 patient.
On September 23, 2021 the court rejected to release arrested defendants and adjourned the trial to October 18, 2021.

The final trial of the case against the Human Rights Association (IHD) central executive board member Sait Çağlayan is held at Hakkari Heavy Penal Court No 3 on September 23, 2021.
The court sentenced Sait Çağlayan to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The trial of the case against journalist Oktay Candemir is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No 5 on September 23, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for Oktay Candemir on the charge of making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media.
After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to November 18, 2021.

It is learned that Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against Mezopotamya News Agency editor in chief Ferhat Çelik, for the news report titled “Detention of journalists is ordered by the same authority”, about the journalists who were detained after reporting on 2 people who were detained, thrown from a helicopter and were subjected to torture. It is learned that Ferhat Çelik made his official statement at a police station on September 23, 2021.

The final trial of the case against Professor Yaman Akdeniz, for his social media post on ban of access to the news reports about Serhat Albayrak, is held at Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance No 7 on September 23, 2021. The court rejected 100,000 Turkish Liras of compensation demand of Serhat Albayrak.

The first trial of the case against Süheyla Taş, Fatma Aslan and Nevroz Müçel, for participating in the hunger strike in prisons to demand an end to isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 18 on September 23, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for 3 prisoners on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
The court adjourned the trial to December 2, 2021.

The final trial of the case against the Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activist Zelal Bilgin is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4 on September 23, 2021.
Zelal Bilgin joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court sentenced Zelal Bilgin to 9 years on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
Zelal Bilgin was detained on April 5, 2021 and was arrested on April 11, 2021.

O. who is charged with sexual assault to a child (İpek Er) and causing her death; is held at Van Penal Court of First Instance No 7 on September 23, 2021. The court acquitted Rojbin Bor.

It is learned that the news reports about Dilek Doğan, who was killed by the fire opened by the police raiding a house, published on https://www.diken.com.tr, https://www.hurriyet.com.tr, https://sendika.org are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 10 on September 23, 2021.
The news reports about an article of journalist Barış Terkoğlu, published on www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://t24.com.tr websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 10 on September 23, 2021.

The Ministry of Health declared that 217 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 27,844 as of September 23, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 62,950 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 6,935,689 as of September 23, 2021.
On September 23, 2021, 2 health workers (pharmacist technician Sait Çalışal in Antalya and anaesthesia technician Necmettin Dündar in Diyarbakır) lost their lives due to Covid-19.
