(10/160) Person Who Lost Their Life While in Custody in Konya…

According to news reports on October 23, 2025, it was learned that a person named S.B., who was taken into custody in the Meram district of Konya, was attacked with knives by two people at the Lalebahçe Police Station where he was taken and lost his life at the hospital where he was taken. The General Directorate of Security made the following statement regarding the incident: “On 23.10.2025, at the Lalebahçe Police Station in the Meram district of Konya, a suspect who was at the police station to give a statement was attacked by relatives of the victim. The injured person died despite all efforts to save him at the hospital where he was taken. The two individuals who carried out the attack were taken into custody.”

According to news reports on October 24, 2025, seven people lost their lives when a boat carrying refugees/migrants sank off the coast of Bodrum district in Muğla.

News reports on October 24, 2025, stated that seven trans women were subjected to torture and other ill-treatment at a police station in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, and one person’s nose was broken.

Tele 1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ was detained on October 24, 2024, in Istanbul as part of an investigation into allegations of “espionage.” It was also reported that an investigation had been launched against Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in the same context.

On October 24, 2024, nine members of the Democratic Youth Councils were detained during house raids in Istanbul. The names of those detained were not disclosed.

(10/165) Trial of Co-Mayor in Van…

The trial of Van Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Neslihan Şedal, who was charged for her speech regarding the appointment of a trustee to the municipality, began on October 23, 2024, at the Van  Criminal Court of First Instance No. 10. The indictment seeks to punish Neslihan Şedal for the crime of “inciting the public to hatred and hostility.” The court postponed the hearing until December 4, 2025.

(10/166) Trial of the Co-Mayor…

The final hearing of the case against Ahmet Türk, Co-Mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, who was replaced by a trustee, was held on October 23, 2025, at the Ankara High Criminal Court No. 14. The court acquitted Ahmet Türk of the charge of “organization propaganda.”

(10/167) The Trial of a Journalist in Istanbul…

The trial of journalist Ercüment Akdeniz, which was opened at the Istanbul  Heavy Penal Court No.26 as part of an investigation into the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK), continued on October 23, 2025. The indictment seeks Ercüment Akdeniz’s punishment for the crime of “being a member of an organization.” The court decided to release Ercüment Akdeniz under judicial control measures prohibiting him from leaving the country and postponed the hearing to a later date.

Ercüment Akdeniz was arrested on February 22, 2025.

The trial of EMEP Istanbul Provincial Chair Sema Barbaros, which was opened at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 22 as part of the investigation into the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK), continued on October 23, 2025. The indictment seeks Sema Barbaros’s punishment for the crime of ‘being a member of an organization’. The court postponed the hearing until February 5, 2026.

Sema Barbaros was arrested on February 18, 2025, and was released at the first hearing of the case on May 28, 2028.

Regarding protests demanding clarification of the death of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University student Rojin Kabaiş, https://www.amedtv.com/, https://haber.sol.org.tr/, https://abcgazetesi.com.tr/ were blocked by a decision of the Van Criminal Court of Peace No. 2 dated October 23, 2025, on the grounds of “protecting national security and public order.”

It was learned that Tele1 TV, where journalist Merdan Yanardağ is the general manager, was raided by police on October 24, 2025, as part of the investigation against him, and that a search was conducted in the building.
