It is learned from the news coverage of November 23, 2023, that 1 militant died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in the Metina area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on November 20, 2023.

(11/197) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeals made on November 24, 2023, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, to visit them was not responded to.

(11/198) Former MP Arrested in Istanbul…

Halil Aksoy, former Ağrı MP of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), was detained in Istanbul on November 23, 2023, on the grounds of a finalized prison sentence of 8 years and 9 months for ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ and was arrested by the court. It is learned that Halil Aksoy was taken to Istanbul Metris R Type Prison.

(11/199) HDP Members, Executives and Lawyer Detained in Istanbul…

On November 24, 2023, 10 people, including members and executives of Peoples’ Democracy and Equality Party (HEDEP) and lawyer Yusuf Görücü, a member of the Istanbul branch of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD), were detained in house raids. The names of the detained people are Yusuf Görücü, Ömer Görünmek, Gülbahar Herdem Filizer, Ahmet Özboganlı, Güney Yıldırım, Turgut Güvener, Cezmi Güçin, Rıdvan Güçin, Yavuz Alınçer and Adem Yıldız.

On November 24, 2023, 5 people were detained in house raids in Eskişehir on the allegations of being a member of an illegal organization. The names of the detained people are Rezan Aras, Abdullah Arslan, Ezgi Karagöz, Genco Aykut, and Muhammed Topalan.

(11/201) City Council Member Detained in Şırnak…

Fehime Saruhan, the city council member from the Silopi district of Şırnak, was detained on November 24, 2023, through a Diyarbakır based investigation.

(11/202) Citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran Detained in Istanbul…

It is learned that a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran named Shailin Asadollahi was detained in Istanbul on November 23, 2023, and was taken to Silivri Removal Center. The reason for detention could not be learned.

(11/203) People Detained in Ankara…

4 people, including Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) member Semra Demir, who were detained on November 21, 2023, in Ankara through an investigation against the commemoration event for Mahir Çayan, were released by the court on judicial control condition on November 23, 2023.

3 people were detained in Van on November 23, 2023. The reason for detention could not be learned. The names of the detained people are Şahin Gezici, Gökhan Gezici, and Sabri Gezici.

(11/205) HEDEP Members Detained in Urfa…

On November 24, 2023, 2 members of HEDEP Youth Assembly were detained in house raids in Urfa for an event they attended. The names of the detained people are Enes Rakım and Mustafa Özkan.

(11/206) Journalist on Trial in Adıyaman…

The final hearing of the case against Özgür Boğatekin, News and Intelligence Director of Gerger Fırat Newspaper, and Hacı Boğatekin, the columnist of the newspaper, on the grounds of a news report on bribery allegations against a judge in Gerger district of Adıyaman, was held on November 23, 2023. The court sentenced Hacı Boğatekin to 1 year and 6 months for ‘slander’ and did not postpone the sentence. The court sentenced Özgür Boğatekin to a 1,740 TL judicial fine for ‘slander.’

(11/207) Journalist on Trial in Urfa…

The trial of the case against journalist Gökhan Yavuzel, for an article he wrote, started on November 23, 2023, at Urfa Penal Court of First Instance No 4. After the defenses, the court adjourned the hearing to February 23, 2024.

(11/208) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The retrial of the case against journalist Canan Coşkun, who was sentenced to 10 months in prison by Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14 for ‘targeting people who took part in the fight against terrorism’ in one of her news reports, started on November 23, 2023 after the Constitutional Court ruled that there was a violation of rights in terms of freedom of expression. The court adjourned the hearing to February 22, 2024.

(11/209) Compensation Case Against the Ministry of Interior…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 23, 2023, that Istanbul Administrative Court No 6 sentenced the Ministry of Interior to pay compensation for the broken foot of lawyer Erkan Sabri Ünüvar during the police intervention in the justice watch for the lawyers arrested through the investigation against Cumhuriyet Newspaper.
