It is learned from the news coverage of November 23, 2022 that, 1 militant died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Hakurk area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on August 13, 2022.

(11/208) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 23, 2022 that, Hiyem Yolcu, a prisoner in Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s Prison was transferred to another prison the name of which could not be learned, under coercion.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 23, 2022 that, 2 prisoners (Zelal Bilgin and Fatma Gül) in Diyarbakır Women’s Prison were transferred to Ankara Sincan Women’s Prison under coercion.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 23, 2022 that, Güneş Akan, a prisoner in Elazığ T Type Prison was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the correction officers.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 23, 2022 that, Mehmet Mustafa Uzkar was being kept in a solitary cell in Antalya High Security Prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 23, 2022 that, the prisoners in Erzurum Dumlu High Security Prison No. 1 were on a 10-day hunger strike in turns, to protest that the windows in wards were covered by metal wires.

(11/210) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration which was made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on November 23, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(11/211) Detained Person in Istanbul…

It is learned that Gökhan Yıldırım, who was on hunger strike in prison to demand fair trial since December 25, 2021 and was released on September 5, 2022 following the 6 months stay of execution decision, was detained in Istanbul on November 22, 2022 on the grounds that Tekirdağ Public Prosecutor’s Office lifted the previous decision and was taken to Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison.

(11/212) Tahir Elçi Case…

The trial of the case against police officers S. T. and F. T., dismissed police officer M. B., and fugitive U. Y., for the killing of Diyarbakır Bar Association chair Tahir Elçi, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 10 on November 23, 2022. Tahir Elçi was murdered in Diyarbakır on November 28, 2015.

The indictment demands jail sentences up to 6 years for 3 police officers on the charge of ‘causing death by culpable negligence’. The indictment demands heavy life imprisonment for 3 times, and 45 years of jail sentence for U. Y. who is alleged to be a PKK member, on the charges of ‘wilful killing’, ‘killing with eventual intent’, ‘opposition to Law no 6136’, ‘disrupting the unity of the state and integrity of the country’, ‘damaging property’.

It is learned that the court board left the courtroom after the quarrel between a lawyer and the chief judge. The court then rejected the request of the lawyers that then-prime minister Ahmet Davutoğlu would be heard as a witness and the intervention demands of Samsun, Artvin, Hatay, Kars and Kırıkkale bar associations and adjourned the trial to July 5, 2023.

(11/213) Journalists and Political Party Executives on Trial in Ağrı…

The trial of the case against 6 people (journalists Aziz Oruç and Dicle Müftüoğlu, the Peoples’ Democratic Party [HDP] Doğubayazıt district co-chair Abdullah Ekelek, Turgay İlboğa and Yücel İlhan) is held at Ağrı Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on November 23, 2022. Aziz Oruç joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system as he was arrested through another case. The court adjourned the trial to January 18, 2023.

Aziz Oruç and Abdullah Ekelek were detained on December 11, 2019, on Ağrı-Doğubayazıt roadway, while İkram Müftüoğlu was detained on the same day in a house raid. Abdullah Ekelek and İkram Müftüoğlu were arrested on December 13, 2019; Aziz Oruç was arrested on December 18, 2019. Abdullah Ekelek and İkram Müftüoğlu were released at the first trial held on July 21, 2020, and Aziz Oruç was released on November 9, 2020.

(11/214) Journalist on Trial in Ankara…

The trial of the appeal regarding the 10-month prison sentence given to journalist Alican Uludağ on the charge of ‘targeting those who took part in the fight against terrorism’ in the case filed at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 18 is held November 23, 2022 at the Penal Chamber No. 22 of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice. The court adjourned the trial to February 1, 2023.

(11/215) People on Trial in Ankara…

The first trial of the case against 49 people who were detained by the police at the city entrance of Ankara where they have come to participate in a protest demanding housing rights on December 12, 2021; is held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No. 15 on November 23, 2022. The court has rejected the lawyers’ request to take the armed police officers out the courtroom. After defence hearings, the court adjourned the trial to March 22, 2023.

(11/216) Decision of Non-Prosecution Regarding Police Violence in Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 24, 2022, that Van Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office decided not to prosecute, regarding the criminal complaint made on August 21, 2022 regarding the physical violence against a person named F. K. in a coffee house in Van.

(11/217) Ban of Events in Beyoğlu District…

Beyoğlu District Governorate’s Office made a declaration on November 24, 2022 and announced that all events such as meetings, marches, press declarations, sit-in protests, opening tents, distributing leaflets and so on are banned for 1 day as of November 25, 2022.
