(05/213) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned that 2 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in the rural areas of Şırnak on May 23, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 23, 2022 that, 2 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Metina area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on May 19, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 23, 2022 that, 1 HPG militant died due to heavy snowfall in Gare area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on January 17, 2022.

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 4 soldiers (Abdülkadir Güler, Onur Doğan, Hüseyin Cankaya, Celal Tekedereli) died in an attack within the “Claw-Lock” military operation in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on May 24, 2022.

It is learned that a group of students who were dancing to Kurdish songs in the campus of Akdeniz University in Antalya were attacked by a racist group on May 23, 2022. It is learned that nobody was injured in the attack.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 23, 2022 that, 6 prisoners in Ankara Sincan Women’s Prison were given the penalty of prevention from communication rights for 1 month as a result of disciplinary proceedings against them on the grounds of chanting slogans to protest Halepçe massacre.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 23, 2022 that, ill prisoner Ekim Polat was subjected to torture and ill-treatment in Denizli T Type Prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 24, 2022 that, Onur Yılmaz, a prisoner in Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison No 2, went on a death fast on May 17, 2022 to demand an end to right violations.

It is learned that the appeal made on May 24, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(05/219) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the press declaration to support Sibel Balaç and Gökhan Yıldırım, who are on hunger strike in prison and to demand release of ill prisoners, held at Galatasaray Square in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on May 24, 2022; and detained 2 people (Erkan Yıldırım and Erkan Munar).

48 people including lawyer Veysi Eski and the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) co-chair Şahin Tümüklü who were detained by the police intervening the march after the press declaration of HDP, the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) and the Democratic Regions party (DBP), regarding the military operations in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, which was held in Istanbul on May 22, 2022, are released on May 23, 2022.

(05/221) Detained HDP Executive and Other People in Batman…

On May 23, 2022, 5 people including HDP provincial executive Sait Yaman are detained in house raids in Batman. The reason of detention is unknown. Detained people are: Sait Yaman, Abdulhakim Oğuz, Mahmut İlhan, Ramazan İlten and Seyithan Kırar.

(05/222) The Case Against People for the Feminist March in Antalya…

The indictment of Antalya Public Prosecutor’s Office against 40 people who have been detained by the police intervening the Feminist Night March in Antalya on March 8, 2022; is accepted by Antalya Penal Court of First Instance No 8 on May 23, 2022.

The indictment demands sentence for 40 people on the charge of ‘organising, leading and participating in unlawful meetings and demonstrations’.

(05/223) Police Officer on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against police officer S. G., regarding injury of 2 people (Şeyhmus Yılmaz and Menice Yılmaz) who has been subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the police using dogs during a police raid to their house, is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 4 on May 23, 2022.

The indictment demands sentence for the defendant police officer on the charge of ‘intentional injury on account of a public officer misusing his influence’.

The defendant police officer did not attend the trial. The court decided to bring S. G. to the next trial by force and adjourned the trial to September 28, 2022.

(05/224) Police Officer on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against police officer H. A., for causing death of Cihan Can, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 11 on May 23, 2022.

The court decided to send the case to the Forensic Medicine Institution to demand a new report and adjourned the trial to October 31, 2022.

Cihan Can lost his life after being hit by a police vehicle driven by police officer H. A. on Turgut Özal avenue in Diyarbakır on December 27, 2019.

(05/225) Curfew in Tatvan…

Bitlis Governorate’s office made a declaration and announced curfew in 2 villages of Tatvan district as of 04.00 on May 22, 2022 until further notice. The curfew is lifted with a second announcement as of 15.30 on May 22, 2022.

The villages under curfew were: Anadere, Dönertaş.

Bitlis Governorate’s office made a declaration and announced curfew in 5 villages of Hizan district as of 04.00 on May 22, 2022 until further notice. The curfew is lifted with a second announcement as of 15.30 on May 22, 2022.

The villages under curfew were: Aladana, Horozdere, Gökay, Yoğurtlu and Süttaşı.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 23, 2022 that, the concert of musician Niyazi Koyuncu which was organized by the Public Education Center at Pendik Square on May 25, 2022, was cancelled by Pendik Municipality.

(05/228) Cancelled Concerts in Denizli and Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 23, 2022, that the concert of musician Apolas Lermi to be held in Denizli on May 29, 2022 was cancelled by Pamukkale Municipality, and the concert to be given in Istanbul on June 1, 2022 was cancelled by the organization company.

(05/229) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that 3 social media posts about the attempt to remove the news on the internet sites with fake court decisions, are banned to access on the grounds of “violation of personal rights”, by Antep Penal Court of Peace No 2 on May 20, 2022.

It is learned that the news reports about an interview on the same subject published on the social media account of the Freedom of Expression Association, which was published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://www.birgun.net, https://www.diken.com.tr websites are banned to access on the grounds of “violation of personal rights”, by Antep Penal Court of Peace No 2 on May 20, 2022.

(05/230) Amendment to the Regulation on the Implementation of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations…

It is learned that the Ministry of Interior made an amendment to the Regulation on Meetings and Demonstrations in line with the decision of Penal Department No 10 of the Council of State in 2020. According to the amendment published in the Official Gazette on May 24, 2022, the phrase “and it will not complicate the daily life of citizens” in subparagraph (a) of paragraph 1 of Article 3 of the regulation on determining the route of meetings and demonstrations in provinces and districts is defined as “will not make the daily life of citizens intolerably and excessively difficult”, and the phrase “and will not complicate the daily life of citizens” in clause (ç) has been repealed.

(05/231) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On May 23, 2022, 11 people are detained in operations covering 12 cities through an Ankara based investigation.

On May 24, 2022, 48 people are detained in operations covering 16 cities through an Ankara based investigation; and 44 people are detained in operations covering 26 cities through an Izmir based investigation.

(05/232) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 3 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 922 as of May 23, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 98,933 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 15,064,170 as of May 23, 2022.
