It is learned from the news coverage of June 24, 2022 that, in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison, the food given to prisoners was not adequate.

(06/275) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 24, 2022 that, prisoners in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison were subjected to mouth searches during hospital transfers and those who reject it were not taken to hospitals.

(06/276) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on June 24, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(06/277) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned that the hunger strike of 11 prisoners in Afyon T Type Prison No 1 to demand an end to right violations since May 25, 2022; ended the strike as the prison administration accepted their demands on June 24, 2022.

(06/278) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the justice watch in front of Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul about ill prisoners on June 23, 2022; and detained 6 people by using physical violence. It is learned that the police also prevented journalists from recording. Detained people are released on the same day.

It is learned that the police prevented the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) parliamentary members who wanted to march to the Galatasaray Square from Çağlayan Courthouse to protest the intervention. It is reported that the parliamentary members held a press declaration in elsewhere.

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 22, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Ankara on June 23, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

(06/281) Interventions and Bans on Pride Month Events…

Eskişehir Governorate’s Office made a statement on June 23, 2022, and announced that since the activities to be held as part of LGBTI+ Pride Month “may cause the reaction of the society by such activities, which include some attitudes and behaviours against general morality, and some reactions arise by some individuals and groups with radical views, through social media platforms and some press publications”, organizing meetings and gatherings, press statements, marches, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, distributing leaflets, hanging posters/banners, protest actions, festivals, etc. “in order to support or protest such actions carried out by LGBTI associations” are banned for 15 days as of June 23, 2022.

(06/282) Detained Person in Mersin for ‘Insulting the President’…

It is learned that on June 23, 2022, a shopkeeper named O. A., who hung a banner reading “Hunger everywhere, unemployment everywhere” in his shop in Mersin, was detained by the police and was released on judicial control conditions by the court, where he was sent to be arrested on the charge of “insulting the President”.

(06/283) The Case Against Human Rights Defender and Other People in Izmir…

The trial of the case against 6 people including human rights defender and medical secretary of the HRFT in Izmir Aytül Uçar and the Progressive Lawyers’ Association (ÇHD) member Erdoğan Akdoğdu is held at Izmir Penal Court of First Instance No 49 on April 15, 2022. 6 people (Aytül Uçar, Emine Akbaba, İrem Çelikbaş, lawyer Erdoğan Akdoğdu and 2 others) have been detained by the police intervening the protest against the new rector appointed to Boğaziçi University, held in Izmir on June 24, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for 6 people on the charges of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’, ‘resisting to prevent public duty’ and ‘insult’.

It is learned that the Provincial Security Directorate responded to the court’s request for the video recordings on the day of the incident and it was stated that the cameras in the building were broken on the day of the incident, and that there was no camera in the detention vehicle.

In his statement at the trial, one of the complainant police officers, H. Y., stated the following: “I was on duty at the scene. Activists broke out. Some were filming us with their phones while we were trying to detain them. A person whose identity I wanted, started to run away. When I caught this person, a fight broke out between us. In the meantime, my foot got stuck on the paving stone and it was broken. I cannot recognize the person, but I have a complaint.” The court adjourned the trial to November 4, 2022.

(06/284) Case Filed Against the Directors of the Chamber of Architects…

The first trial of the case against the executive board members of the Chamber of Architects Ankara branch (branch chair Tezcan Karakuş Candan, branch secretary Nihal Evirgen, and board members Muteber Osmanpaşaoğlu, Ünal Kara, Tuğba Arslan, Ece Yoltay and Özgür Bayramoğlu) for giving the International Television Journalism to Jin TV channel, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 25 on June 23, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for 7 people on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to September 15, 2022.

(06/285) HDP Executives on Trial in Manisa…

The first trial of the case against Naile Gümüştaş and Hayri Bökü, district co-chairs of HDP in Turgutlu, is held at Manisa Heavy Penal Court No 3 on June 23, 2022. Naile Gümüştaş joined the trial via sound and vision system from prison. After defence hearings the court decided to release Naile Gümüştaş and adjourned the trial to July 5, 2022.

Naile Gümüştaş and Hayri Bökü were arrested on February 14, 2022 and were arrested by the court on February 22, 2022.

(06/286) People on Trial in Izmir…

The final trial of the case against 12 people who were detained in the police intervention to the press declaration made in İzmir on July 21, 2020 to protest the murder of a woman named Pınar Gültekin, living in Muğla, by a man named Cemal Metin Avcı; is held at İzmir Penal Court of First Instance No 47 on June 24, 2022. The court sentenced one person (Meryem Yıldırım) to 5 months on the charge of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’ and acquitted 11 people.

(06/287) Investigation Against Diyarbakır Bar Association Executives…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 24, 2022 that an investigation was launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against the executive board members of the Diyarbakır Bar Association, on the grounds of their statement regarding the Armenian Genocide of April 24, 1915.

(06/288) Hazna Sü Case…

The final trial of the case against specialised sergeant B. D., for death of Hazna Sü due to being hit by an armoured police vehicle in Kızıltepe district of Mardin on January 11, 2022, is held at Kızıltepe Penal Court of First Instance No 3 on June 23, 2022. The court sentenced the defendant specialised sergeant to 1 year and 8 months on the charge of ‘causing death by negligence’ and did not postpone the sentence.

(06/289) Police Officers on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case about torture and ill-treatment that journalist Erdal İmrek has been subjected to during police intervention to demonstrations held in Istanbul on May 31, 2014, to mark the first year of Gezi Park protests; is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 60 on June 24, 2022. The Constitutional Court has ruled that “prohibition of treatment incompatible with human dignity” has been violated by the police officers. The court accepted the request of Erdal İmrek’s lawyers for a decision of non-jurisdiction regarding the case file and ruled that the file be sent to the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court on Duty.

(06/290) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

It is learned that 17 people are detained in operations covering 3 cities through an Istanbul based investigation and 25 people are detained in operations covering 12 cities through an Ankara based investigation.
