It is learned from the news coverage of December 23, 2021 that, in Diyarbakır T Type Prison No 4 the food given to prisoners is inadequate.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 23, 2021 that, 8 prisoners (Sinan Durmaz, Onur Yılmaz, Abdullah Günay, Sabah Dayan, Ozan Alpkaya, Halis Dağhan, Sertaç Kılıçarslan and Kenan Yıldızbakan) in Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison No 2 are on indefinite hunger strike since November 28, 2021 to demand an end to right violations in prison.

It is learned that the appeal made on December 23, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit him was not responded.
(12/232) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…
The police intervened the group including the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs, gathering on Istiklal Street for the press declaration of the Democratic Institutions Platform about isolation and right violations in prisons and ill prisoners, on December 23, 2021 in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul; and detained 11 people by using physical violence. It is learned that the police prevented the journalists. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

Zozan Aksu, a provincial executive of HDP who was detained in Şırnak on December 20, 2021 is arrested by the court on December 23, 2021.

The trial of the case against co-executive editor Eren Keskin and managing editor Reyhan Çapan from Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, which was to be held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on December 23, 2021 is adjourned as the court judge was on leave.

The first trial of the case against Doğan Ergün, executive editor and İzel Sezer, managing editor back then of İleri Haber news portal, for a news report about bribery allegations, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 33 on December 23, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for 2 journalists on the charges of ‘unlawfully publicizing the information obtained through recording private conversations between persons’ and ‘insult’.
After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to March 10, 2022.

The final trial of the case against the Republican People’s Party (CHP) chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, on the grounds of insulting the President in a group meeting at the Grand National Assembly, is held at Ankara Civil Court No 3 on December 23, 2021. The court ordered Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to pay a compensation of 80,000 Turkish Liras to the President.

The retrial of the case against 36 people including HDP MPs Tayip Temel and Pero Dündar, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 2 on December 23, 2021. The Court of Cassation has reversed the local court’s verdict.
Pero Dündar attended the trial and made her defence in Kurdish. After defence hearings the court decided to send the case file to the prosecutor for legal opinion and adjourned the trial to April 5, 2022.

The trial of the case against Behçet Yıldırım, former Adıyaman MP of HDP, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on December 23, 2021.
Behçet Yıldırım joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. The court limited the number of lawyers to be present at the trial to three. After defence hearings the court decided to release Behçet Yıldırım and adjourned the trial to March 31, 2022.
Behçet Yıldırım was detained on November 3, 2021 and was arrested on November 11, 2021.

The trial of the case against police officer İ. A., for death of Efe Tektekin (5), due to being hit by an armoured police vehicle in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır on September 11, 2019, is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 9 on December 23, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for İ. A. on the charge of reckless killing.
The court decided to send a writ to the Forensic Medicine Institution for a new criminal report adjourned the trial to March 24, 2022.

It is learned that the website of Etkin News Agency https://www.etha27.com is banned to access on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 5 on December 22, 2021.
It is learned that 151 news reports about CNR Holding CEO are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 8 on December 22, 2021.
It is learned that a news report about a case against the Human Rights Association co-chair Eren Keskin which has ended in acquittal, published on https://www.gazeteduvar.com.tr website is banned to access by the Access Providers’ Association on December 21, 2021.

According the Ministry of Finance and Treasury’s order published on the Official Gazette on December 24, 2021, assets of 770 people and Niagara Foundation have been frozen in accordance with the “Law on Prevention of Financing of Terrorism”.

On December 23, 2021, 51 people are detained in a boat in the Aegean Sea near Izmir, in an alleged attempt to illegally flee abroad.

The Ministry of Health declared that 168 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 18,771 as of December 23, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 81,125 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 9,247,606 as of December 23, 2021.
