(08/203) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…
The police intervened the press declaration held on August 23, 2021 in front of Sarıyer district office of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) to protest the Presidential appointment of Naci Inci as the rector of Boğaziçi University; and detained 9 people including a journalist (Ozan Acıdere). Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

It is learned that the appeal made on August 23, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

Serhat Kadırhan, former co-mayor of Şırnak who was detained in Diyarbakır on August 20, 2021 is arrested by the court on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on August 23, 2021.
(08/206) Detained HDP members and Executives and Other People in Istanbul…
7 of 25 people including members and executives of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) who were detained on the grounds of making money transfers to their relatives in prison, in Istanbul on August 20, 2021, are arrested by the court on August 23, 2021. 18 people are released by the court provided that 12 of them will be on judicial control conditions.

The indictment of Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office against 17 people for participating in the Feminist Night March in Istanbul on March 8, 2021, is accepted by Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 10 on August 23, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence of 2 years and 8 months to 7 years and 8 months for 17 people on the charges of ‘organising, leading and participating in unlawful meetings and demonstrations’ and ‘insulting the President’ in the slogans.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 23, 2021 that, Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment and sent to Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 16, against actor Genco Erkal, on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ in social media posts.
(08/209) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 232 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 18,857 as of August 23, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 54,765 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 6,234,520 as of August 23, 2021.
