(04/165) Mustafa Koçak on Death Fast Lost His Life…
Mustafa Koçak, who went on a hunger strike on July 3, 2019 in Izmir Şakran T Type Prison No 2, to demand a fair trial; and who has turned the strike to a death fast on September 30, 2019; died in Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison No 1 on 297th day of his fast. It is learned that Mustafa Koçak’s funeral was sent to Istanbul after autopsy.
Mustafa Koçak was on trial about murder of prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz, and was sentenced to heavy life imprisonment on July 11, 2019; on the charge of ‘violating the constitutional order’. On March 12, 2020, he was forcefully taken to Aliağa Prisons Campus Hospital Internal Diseases Department for medical treatment and he was taken to Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison No 1 after being discharged from hospital on March 16, 2020. It was learned that Mustafa Koçak was subjected to torture and ill-treatment during forced treatment.

On April 23, 2020, an 8 years old child (R. E.) got heavily wounded due to an undetected bullet that hit him at the head and died in Kızıltepe İpekyolu Hospital.
(04/167) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of April 23, 2020 that, Abdulsemet Durak, former member of Batman city council, who had a heart attack in Maraş Türkoğlu L Type Prison on April 18, 2020, was said “come over to our side, do what we say and we will release you soon” and was forced to be an informant; and was referred to hospital in handcuffs since he rejected this.
It is learned from the news coverage of April 23, 2020 that, 4 prisoners in Van F Type Prison were subjected to physical violence of the wardens on April 1, 2020. It is also learned that Harun Simin, one of those prisoners, injured at his face due to violence.
It is learned from the news coverage of April 23, 2020 that, prisoners in Van High Security Prison were not given disinfectants, gloves, cleaning supplies and face masks for protection from Covid-19; and prices of face masks and cleaning supplies at prison commissioner were higher than normal. It is also stated in the news reports that books sent to prisoners were not given to them.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 23, 2020 that, Mustafa Koç, a prisoner with fever and sore throat in Mersin Tarsus T Type Prison No 1, was not taken to hospital despite of Covid-19 pandemic.
(04/169) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…
Mehmet Dersulu, who was on his way to Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street to hold the press declaration for public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1262 days to regain their jobs, April 23, 2020 at 18.00, is detained by the police on the grounds of violating the curfew which was announced as a precaution for Covid-19. Mehmet Dersulu is released after being fined to 3,150 Turkish Liras on the same day.

The police intervened 2 members of TAYAD (Kemal Gün and Aydın Geve) who chain themselves to garden walls of Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul on April 22, 2020, to support Grup Yorum band member İbrahim Gökçek, Mustafa Koçak, Didem Akman, Özgür Karakaya and lawyers Aytaç Ünsal and Ebru Timtik who are on death fast; and detained 2 people.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 23, 2020 that, Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against Olcay Muti, Community House chair in Kemalpaşa district of Artvin, on the grounds of ‘unauthorized training and education activity’ of children’s choir; and that Olcay Muti was called to give statement to prosecution.
(04/172) Covid-19 Pandemic…
Ministry of Health declared that 115 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 3,116 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on April 23, 2020.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 2,491 and total number of confirmed cases is 101,790 as of April 23, 2020.
