(09/245) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Serkan Erkuş) died in an attack during the Claw-Lock military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces units into the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on September 23, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 23, 2022 that, 2 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Mardin on September 7, 2022; and were buried in the cemetery of the nameless in the Kamor City Cemetery in Artuklu district, on the grounds that their identities could not be determined.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 23, 2022 that, 4 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Zap area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on June 21, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 25, 2022 that, 3 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Diyarbakır on September 23, 2022.

(09/246) Asylum Seekers Died in Çanakkale…

It is learned that 6 asylum seekers including 4 children lost their lives in a boat sinking off the coast of Ayvacık district of Çanakkale on September 24, 2022.

(09/247) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 24, 2022 that, the poetry book “Yıkılacak Duvarlar” (The Walls to Demolish) written by Figen Yüksekdağ, former co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) was confiscated on the grounds of ban decision of the court.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 24, 2022 that, prisoners who were transferred from other prisons to Konya Ereğli High Security Prison were put in solitary cells.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 25, 2022 that, Ali Karakut, a prisoner in Antalya S Type Prison was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the correction officers and the gendarmerie personnel and was threatened to death.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 26, 2022 that, HDP Diyarbakır MP Semra Güzel was being kept in a solitary cell in Istanbul Silivri Prison since she was arrested on September 3, 2022.

(09/248) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 24, 2022 that the Human Rights Equality Institution of Turkey (TİHEK) visited Bitlis E Type Prison and determined that some of the medication in the infirmary had expired.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 24, 2022 that cleaning supplies of the prisoners were confiscated and some of the prisoners were diagnosed with scabies in Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s Prison. It is also stated in the news reports that the prisoners were not taken to the hospital for treatment.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 25, 2022 that, Ali Karakut, an ill prisoner with hepatitis B in Antalya S Type Prison, was not given regular medication and was not referred to the hospital.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 26, 2022 that, Mehmet Polat, an ill prisoner in Diyarbakır F Type Prison No. 1 was not receiving treatment.

(09/249) Hunger Strike in Prison…

The People’s Law Office announced that, Sibel Balaç, who is on hunger strike since December 19, 2021 to demand a fair trial, was taken to Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s Prison from Ankara Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Hospital where she was being kept since September 25, 2022; and was kept in a solitary cell despite of the medical report stating that she could not stay on her own.

(09/250) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on September 23, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(09/251) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the march on Istiklal Street in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on September 24, 2022 by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly and the Democratic Students’ Assembly to protest the death of a woman named Mahsa Amini in Iran as a result of torture and ill-treatment by the police. It is learned that nobody was detained.

(09/252) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the press declaration held to protest the ban on the People’s Festival in Sarıgazi neighbourhood of Sancaktepe district of Istanbul on September 25, 2022 and detained 15 people by using physical violence.

(09/253) Detained People in Diyarbakır…

On September 25, 2022, 6 people are detained on the grounds of holding an Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government flag during the football match between Amedspor and Bursaspor teams.

Diyarbakır Governorate’s Office made the following statement: “All necessary measures have been taken regarding the Bursaspor-Amed Sportive Activities match played in our city. However, it is respectfully announced to the public that the visuals on the social media were brought into the stadium in the clothes of some of the audience, and that our security forces immediately intervened and legal action was initiated against the relevant persons.”

(09/254) Former HDP Co-Chair on Trial…

The trial of the case against former HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş, on the grounds of his expressions about Ahmet Davutoğlu, the prime minister back then, is held at Istanbul Küçükçekmece Penal Court of First Instance No. 23 on September 23, 2022. Selahattin Demirtaş joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. The court adjourned the trial to November 4, 2022.

(09/255) Co-Mayors and Other People on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Mehmet Fatih Taş and Fatma Ay, co-mayors of Kulp district of Diyarbakır, and HDP district co-chair Mehmet Abidin Karaman, Kulp Municipality Civil Works Director Şener Aktaş, Mehmet Emin Ay and Kulp district council Yücel Çete and Ümit Fidan, on the charges of ‘killing on purpose’, ‘disrupting the integrity and unity of the country’, ‘intentional killing by causing fire, flood, destruction, sinking, bombing or by using nuclear, biological or chemical weapons’ is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 9 on September 26, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to December 12, 2022.

Mehmet Fatih Taş, Fatma Ay, Şener Aktaş and Mehmet Emin Ay were detained through the investigation after bombing attack on September 12, 2019 in Kulp district where 7 people died and were arrested on September 16, 2019. They were released by the court at the first trial held on September 11, 2019.

(09/256) Former DBP Co-Chair on Trial…

The trial of the case against Mehmet Arslan, former co-chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), through the investigation against Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 11 on September 26, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to January 11, 2023.

Mehmet Arslan was detained on May 22, 2021 and was arrested by the court on May 24, 2021; and was released by the court at the trial held on September 30, 2021.

(09/257) DBP Executive on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against DBP deputy co-chair Mehmet Şirin Tunç is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 8 on September 26, 2022. The court rejected to lift judicial control conditions for Mehmet Şirin Tunç and adjourned the trial to November 15, 2022.

(09/258) Journalist on Trial in Van…

The final trial of the case against Jinnews reporter Rabia Önver, over her social media posts, is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No. 2on September 23, 2022. The court sentenced Rabia Önver to 1 year 6 months and 27 days on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(09/259) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

It is learned that the indictment of Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office against Birgün newspaper’s editor Gökay Başcan, upon the complaint of the President’s spouse on the grounds of ‘insult’ in a news report, is accepted by Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 17 on September 26, 2022.

(09/260) Onur Yaser Can Case…

It is learned that the indictment of Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office against 4 police officers on the charge of ‘counterfeiting official documents’ and ‘damage of an official document’ and against 1 expert on the charge of ‘false statement’, regarding the death of Onur Yaser Can, is accepted by Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 41 on September 23, 2022, and the first trial of the case will be held on September 30, 2022. Onur Yaser Can was detained in Istanbul in 2010, and killed himself after he was subjected to torture and ill-treatment under custody.

(09/261) Investigation Against People in Eskişehir…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 26, 2022, an investigation on the grounds of ‘inciting hatred and hostility among public’ was launched against people participated in the demonstration of burning black cloth and cutting hair, by Eskişehir Women’s Defence Network on September 22, 2022 to protest the death of a woman named Mahsa Amini as a result of torture and other ill-treatment by the police in Iran.

(09/262) Ban of Event in Istanbul…

It is learned that the People’s Festival which was to be held on September 25, 2022 in Sarıgazi neighbourhood of Sancaktepe district of Istanbul is banned by the district governorate’s office on September 23, 2022.

(09/263) TİHEK Decision on Prohibition of Ill-Treatment and Discrimination…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 26, 2022, it that the application made to the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Turkey (TİHEK) by Somali citizen Muhammed İsa Abdullahi, who was subjected to the racist practice and threat of the police on the grounds of the sign of his restaurant in Çankaya district of Ankara, was concluded. It is reported that there was no “violation of ill-treatment and prohibition of discrimination” in the decision, however 5 members opposed the decision in terms of “prohibition of discrimination”. Muhammed Isa Abdullahi was detained on September 20, 2022 on the grounds of the cancellation of his residence permit and was taken to Akyurt Repatriation Center.

(09/264) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared on September 24, 2022 that 71 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the number of Covid-19 cases is 17,647 between September 12-18, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 101,139 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 16,873,793 as of September 18, 2022.
