It is learned from the news coverage of September 22, 2022 that, 2 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Şırnak on September 7, 2022.

(09/232) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned that İleri Kızılaltun, who has been on hunger strike in Istanbul Silivri Prison since August 15, 2022, demanding an end to the violations of rights and a fair trial, was released as a result of the detention examination of Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 13 on September 22, 2022.

(09/233) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 22, 2022 that, 4 prisoners in Edirne F Type Prison were transferred to other prisons under coercion. The transferred prisoners and the prisons are: Mehmet Aytunç Altay, Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison No. 2; Hasan Yıldız, Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison No. 1; Eren Yıldız, Antalya High Security Prison; Suat İncedere, Antalya S Type Prison.

It is learned that the appeal made on September 22, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(09/235) Police Prevention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police prevented the press declaration to be held in front of the Embassy of the Republic of Iran by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) on September 22, 2022 to protest the death of a woman named Mahsa Amini in Iran as a result of torture and ill-treatment by the police.

(09/236) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened in the press declaration made by HDP Kocaeli MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu on September 23, 2022 regarding the detention of Somali citizen Muhammed İsa Abdullahi in Ankara on September 20, 2022 on the grounds of the cancellation of his residence permit. The police used physical violence to force people away from the area.

(09/237) Detained Somali Citizen in Ankara…

It is learned that Somali citizen Muhammed Isa Abdullahi, who was subjected to the racist practice and threat of the police on the grounds of the sign of his restaurant in Çankaya district of Ankara, was detained on September 20, 2022, on the grounds that his residence permit was cancelled. It is learned from the news reports that Muhammed İsa Abdullahi was taken to Akyurt Repatriation Center.

(09/238) Detained People in Hakkari…

It is learned that 1 of 11 people (Esat Çakmak) who were detained in house raids following the military operation in the rural areas of Yüksekova district of Hakkari on September 18, 2022, is arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on September 22, 2022. 10 of the detainees were released by the court on September 21, 2022.

(09/239) Arrested People in Bursa…

It is learned that 3 people (Seda Baykan, Dilek Arsu and Mehmet Mustafa Uskar), who were detained in the Dikili district of İzmir on September 17, 2022, on the charge of being related to the attack on the vehicle carrying the correction officers in Bursa on April 20, 2022; and who were subjected to torture and ill-treatment under custody, were arrested by the court in Bursa on September 22, 2022.

(09/240) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against journalist Nurcan Yalçın, for the interviews she made with women before the curfews in Sur district of Diyarbakır between 2015 and 2016, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4 on September 22, 2022. The court sentenced Nurcan Yalçın to 2 years and 6months on the charge of ‘knowingly aiding an illegal organisation’.

(09/241) Academician on Trial in Ankara…

The first trial of the case against academician Mehmet Mutlu, on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 19 on September 21, 2022. After defence hearings the court lifted the ban on leaving the country for Mehmet Mutlu and adjourned the trial to December 6, 2022.

(09/242) Association Executive on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Rosa Women’s Association executive member lawyer Elif Tirenç İpek Ulaş, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 8 on September 22, 2022. The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded sentence for Elif Tirenç İpek Ulaş on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. Alter defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to December 22, 2022.

(09/243) Vartinis Massacre Case…

The retrial of the case against former gendarmerie lieutenant Bülent Karaoğlu, for death of 9 members of Öğüt family including 7 children, in their house that was burned down by soldiers on May 17, 1993 in Altınova (Vartinis) town of Korkut district in Muş; is held at Kırıkkale Heavy Penal Court No 1 on September 22, 2022. The court decided to examine the red notice request for Bülent Karaoğlu between the trials and adjourned the trial to October 20, 2022.

The final trial of the case was held on March 1, 2016; and the local court has acquitted all 4 defendants (Hasköy Gendarmerie Commander lieutenant Bülent Karaoğlu, Hasköy District Company Commander Lieutenant Hanifi Akyıldız, Gökyazı Gendarmerie Commander master sergeant Turhan Nurdoğan and Muş Security Directorate Special Task Department chief police Şerafettin Us). On January 26, 2021, the Penal Department No 1 of the Court of Cassation has approved the acquittal for 3 defendants but reversed the local court’s verdict regarding Bülent Karaoğlu, who was the commander of Hasköy Gendarmerie Station back then. The case will drop due to term of limitation if it will not be finalised until October 3, 2023.

(09/244) Ban of Concert in Urfa…

It is learned that the concert of musician Ilkay Akkaya to be held in Urfa on September 25, 2022, is banned by the governorate’s office on the grounds of “being inappropriate in terms of general security, public order, safety and security” on September 22, 2022.
