It is learned from the news coverage of September 22, 2021 that, 2 HPG militants died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to the rural areas of Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak on June 24, 2021.
(09/199) Person Died in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of September 22, 2021 that, Kenan Özcan, a prisoner in Afyon Bolvadin C Type Prison who was admitted to Eskişehir City Hospital on September 17, 2021; lost his life on September 22, 2021.
Yunus Özcan, his son, stated the following to the press: “We still do not know the cause of death. The hospital did not make us any explanation. They told us that the autopsy report will be ready within 8 months.”

It is learned from the news coverage of September 22, 2021 that, the Free Women’s Movement (TJA) spokesperson Ayşe Gökkan who is kept in Diyarbakır Women’s Prison, was subjected to disciplinary proceedings on the grounds of expressions in her petition to Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding the right violations in prison.

It is learned that the appeal made on September 22, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit him was not responded.
(09/202) Police Intervention to Protests in Eskişehir, Ankara, Istanbul and Kocaeli…
The police intervened the students in Eskişehir having a sit-in for their housing rights and detained 6 people on September 22, 2021. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.
The police intervened the demonstration of the Socialist Youth Associations’ Federation (SGDF) for the demand, in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on September 22, 2021 and detained 4 people. Detained people (Azize Deniz Akşar, Elif Bayburt, Ercan Küçükkaya, Mustafa Kazak) are released after statement procedures on the same day.
The police prevented the protests of students in Ankara and Kocaeli.

Gönül Erden, former co-chair of the Health and Social Service Employees’ Union (SES) who has been detained on May 25, 2021 through an investigation against the union was released by the court on June 1, 2021. Gönül Erden is detained once again in Ankara on September 21, 2021, upon the prosecutor’s objection, and is arrested by the court.

On September 22, 2021, 8 people are detained through an Istanbul based investigation against Assembly of Resistances and the Association of Families of Prisoners (TAYAD) members.
Detained people are: Hasan Basri Yıldız, Mehmet Yücetepe, Selvi Polat, Hatun Polat, Feridun Osmanağaoğlu, Hasan Kocaman, Türkan Albayrak, Fahrettin Keskin, Turan Aktaş and Mehmet Tuncay.
It is learned that Turan Aktaş who is marching to Ankara within “I Want My Job Back” protests, and Mehmet Tuncay and Türkan Albayrak are detained in Düzce and taken to Istanbul for investigation.
(09/205) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The final trial of the case against journalist Yelda Çiçek, who was detained by the police during the protests in Diyarbakır after trustee appointment, is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 4 on September 22, 2021. The court sentenced Yelda Çiçek to 1 year and 8 months on the charge of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

The trial of the case against Leyla Güven, HDP’s former Hakkari MP who has been stripped of MP status and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair, is held at Hakkari Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on September 22, 2021.
The indictment demands jail sentence for Leyla Güven on the charges of ‘praising offence and offender’ and ‘provoking hatred and hostility among people’.
Due to a problem in the sound and vision system, the trial could not be held and is adjourned to October 13, 2021.
(09/207) Association Member on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The first trial of the case against Women’s Academy member Figen Aras through the investigation against Rosa Women’s Association is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10 on September 22, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for Figen Aras on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
Figen Aras joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court decided to release Figen Aras and adjourned the trial to January 26, 2022.
(09/208) Musician on Trial in Istanbul…
The trial of the case against musician Ferhat Tunç, for his social media posts, is held at Büyükçekmece Penal Court of First Instance No 4 on September 22, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for Ferhat Tunç on the charges of ‘provoking hatred and hostility among public’ and ‘insulting the President’.
It is learned that Ferhat Tunç submitted his defence declarations in written form to the court. The court adjourned the trial to February 22, 2022.

It is learned that 2 people (T. T. and D. K.) are detained in relation to the armed assault was organized on Arnavutköy district office of the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA Party) in Istanbul on September 21, 2021.
(09/210) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…
On September 22, 2021, 15 people are detained in operations covering 3 cities through an Istanbul based investigation; and 9 people are detained in Muğla in an alleged attempt to illegally flee abroad.
(09/211) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 242 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 28,168 as of September 22, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 62,733 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 6,907,845 as of September 22, 2021.
