It is learned from the news coverage of November 23, 2023, that 2 people (H. Ş. and D. S.) who were detained by the police on November 17, 2023, on the shore of Seyhan Dam Lake in Adana, on the grounds of ‘trading unlicensed firearms’, were subjected to torture and ill-treatment, threatened with death and were injured in various parts of their bodies due to torture and ill-treatment.

It was learned from the news coverage of November 22, 2023, that Sinan Çiftyürek, Van MP of Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (HEDEP), was threatened with a gun by an anonymous person in Diyarbakır on November 17, 2023.

It was learned that the appeal made on November 23, 2023 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

On November 22, 2023, the police intervened in the press statement on Type Y, S, and R prisons in front of Istanbul Çağlayan Courthouse and detained 6 people (Deniz Aydın, Feridun Osmanoğlu, Yeliz Kütük, İbrahim Doğan, Yıldız Turan, Murat Türkmen).

Mehmet Kamış, former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Zaman Newspaper, which was shut down by a state of emergency decree, was detained in the Çeşme district of Izmir on November 22, 2023 and taken to Istanbul.

The first trial of the case against journalist Ayça Söylemez for her article titled “Talented Judge” published in BirGün newspaper on February 18, 2020, was held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 29 on November 22, 2023. The indictment demands a sentence for Ayça Söylemez on the charge of ‘targeting people who took part in the fight against terrorism.’ The court adjourned the hearing to March 19, 2024.

The first trial of the case against Sude Çağlar, member of Free Young Women (ÖGK) Central Coordination, started on November 23, 2023 at Eskişehir Heavy Penal Court No 2. The indictment demands a sentence for Sude Çağlar on the charges of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ on the grounds of actions and activities she participated in. Sude Çağlar attended the hearing and made her defence. After the defences, the court released Sude Çağlar and adjourned the trial to a later date.
Sude Çağlar was detained on April 30, 2023, released under house arrest on May 3, 2023, but upon the objection of the prosecutor’s office, she was detained again and arrested on May 5, 2023.

The trial of the case against police officer S. G., in relation to the injuries of Menice and Şeyhmus Yılmaz by police dogs during the police raid on their houses, continued on November 22, 2023, at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 4. It is learned that the prosecutor changed the final opinion on the case and demanded acquittal of the defendant upon the expert report which states that the defendant police officer was not at fault in the incident. The court adjourned the trial to December 18, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 22, 2023, that an investigation was initiated by the Ministry of Interior against Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer on the grounds that he gave the bell of the Greek church in Seferihisar to the Greek Consulate 14 years ago when he was the mayor of Seferihisar.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 23, 2023, that the Court of Cassation rejected the change of the name of Greens and Left Future Party to Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (HEDEP) on the grounds that HEDEP reminds the previously shut down Peoples’ Democracy Party (HADEP).

The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) announced that 2 people were detained on November 22, 2023, for allegedly trying to illegally cross to Greece.
