(06/224) Attack on Journalist in Samsun…

It is learned that İbrahim Akkuş, a reporter of Yeniçağ newspaper, was attacked by a construction company’s workers at the district municipality building on June 22, 2021 and got injured at the head. It is learned that the attack was organized after İbrahim Akkuş made a news report about the problems of the public hospital being constructed in 19 Mayıs district. 3 people who were detained in relation to the attack are released after statement procedures.

(06/225) Attack on Journalist in Kocaeli…

It is learned that Mustafa Uslu, a reporter of İhlas News Agency, was attacked by a group and got injured at the face, while he was reporting on destruction of the farmhouse of IYI Party deputy chair Lütfi Türkkan in Dilovası district of Kocaeli on June 22, 2021. It is claimed that Lütfi Türkkan’s private driver was among the attackers. It is reported that 4 people were detained in relation to the attack.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 22, 2021 that, in Elazığ F Type Prison No 2, social rights of prisoners were being restricted, and their letters were not being sent, the newspapers they demand were not given.

(06/227) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on June 22, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(06/228 Police Intervention to Pride Week Events in Istanbul…

It is learned that the picnic which was planned to be held in Adalar district of Istanbul on June 22, 2021 as a part of Pride Week events, had to be shifted to Maçka Park in Şişli, because the owner of the place in Adalar district was threatened by the police.

The police intervened the picnic in Maçka Park, on the grounds of prohibition of Şişli Sub-Governorate’s Office. The police did not allow anyone with rainbow face masks or wearing anything in rainbow colours in the park, and forced out those who are in the park, by using physical violence. It is learned that 1 person (Efecan Bozkurt) was detained and 1 person’s arm got broken. It is learned that the lawyers in the park were also subjected to physical violence and the police attempted to detain them as well. Detained person is released after statement procedures on the same day.

(06/229) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that, a ban on music broadcasts will be on effect after midnight as of June 1, 2021, as a part of “normalization rules”. The police intervened the street concert to protest the ban, held in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on June 22, 2021 and detained 7 people including the musician. 7 people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

(06/230) Police Intervention to a Protest in Urfa…

The police intervened the justice watch of Emine Şenyaşar in front of Urfa Courthouse on June 22, 2021, on the grounds that “sitting and standing in the yard of courthouse was prohibited”. It is learned that Emine Şenyaşar who fainted during the intervention was then forcibly taken to a hospital. It is also reported that 1 journalist was subjected to police violence and was forced out of the courthouse yard by the police using physical violence. On June 14, 2018, Justice and Development Party Urfa MP candidate İbrahim Halil Yıldız and his personal guards had a quarrel with shopkeepers in Suruç district of Urfa which resulted in death of Emine Şenyaşar’s husband Hacı Esved Şenyaşar and her sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar.

Hatice Onaran, the Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul branch executive is detained in Istanbul through an Edirne based investigation on June 22, 2021.

(06/232) Detained Revolutionary Party Members in Istanbul…

On June 22, 2021, 16 members of the Revolutionary Party and the Revolutionary Forces of the Youth (Dev-Güç) are detained by the gendarmerie in house raids in Istanbul. 7 people (Sedef Özer, Bekir Açar, Ömer Şengel, Yeşim Tükel, Çağla Deniz Gündüz, Muhammed Şahin Uca, İbrahim Zencir) are released on the same day. It is learned that 9 people (Başak Yeşilot, Murat Pircan Yaratan, Özgür Sazlık, Beyza Çapar, Sedef Özer, Umut Doğan, Mazlum Oruç, Hasan Taş, Bünyamin Tacar) are still under custody.

 (06/233) Detained People in Ağrı…

4 of 6 people (Abdullah Kurt, Coşkun Çetres, İsmet Gürel and İslam Acar) who were detained in Patnos district of Ağrı on June 20, 2021 are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on June 22, 2021. 2 people are released.

(06/234) Co-Mayors on Trial in Mardin…

The trial of the case against Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz, HDP co-mayor of Kızıltepe district; and Gülistan Öncü, HDP co-mayor of Savur district, is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 2 on June 22, 2021.

The court lifted judicial control conditions for Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz and Gülistan Öncü and adjourned the trial to November 4, 2021.

The Ministry of Interior appointed sub-governors as trustees to Kızıltepe (on November 4, 2019) and to Savur (November 16, 2019). Gülistan Öncü was detained on November 15, 2019 and was arrested on November 26, 2019. Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz was detained on December 12, 2019 and was arrested by the court on December 16, 2019. They were released by the court on April 1, 2021.

(06/235) “KCK Press Case”…

The trial of the case against 46 journalists, known as “KCK Press Case” is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 3 on June 22, 2021. The court adjourned the trial to November 23, 2021.

(06/236) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against co-executive editors Eren Keskin and Hüseyin Aykol, and managing editor Reyhan Çapan and journalist Hasan Başak, from Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 on June 22, 2021. The court adjourned the trial to November 3, 2021.

It is learned that social media posts of journalist Erk Acarer, related to the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 3 on June 22, 2021.

(06/238) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 22, 2021, 98 people are detained in operations covering 40 cities through an Izmir based investigation and 7 people are detained in house raids in Ankara.

(06/240) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 57 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 565 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on June 22, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 6,143.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 49,293 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,381,736 as of June 22, 2021.
