(07/207) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from news coverage of July 22, 2023, that a village guard (Murat Gök) died after falling into Zap Water in the Aslankapan area of the Çukurca district of Hakkari.

(07/208) Phobic Hate Attack in Izmir…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 23, 2024, that a trans woman named S. E. who lives in the Güzelyalı neighborhood of the Konak district of Izmir, was subjected to systematic phobic hate attacks by her neighbors and moved to another place.

In her statement to the press regarding the systematic phobic hate attacks she was subjected to, S. E. said the following: “They cut off the water and electricity to my house. They did everything to prevent me from living there. They verbally and physically attacked me. They organized other neighbors against me and they also tried to attack me. I became unable to live in my own house. When I entered and left the house, they would wait at the entrance of the apartment and attack me (…) After the attacks, I applied to the police and got a ‘restraining order’. That was my own house. I could not live in peace in my own house, so I moved to another district of Izmir.”

It is learned from the news coverage of July 22, 2024, that economist Özgür Demirtaş was threatened with the following statement after a comment he made on a social media post: “We know who you are, we know who you are, you bloodless person called Özgür Demirtaş, wait for your turn, these are fragments (…) don’t worry, we know who you are, we are as close to you as your breath…”.

(07/210) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 22, 2024, that PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imrali Prison were banned from family visits for 3 months as of July 4, 2024, through a disciplinary investigation against them.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 23, 2024, that an oil painting depicting Mem û Zin by Mazlum Dağtekin, a prisoner in Diyarbakır High Security Prison No 1, was seized by the prison administration on the grounds of making propaganda for an illegal organization. It is reported that the objection to the seizure of the painting was rejected by Prison Administration and Observation Board on the grounds that “although the prisoner stated in his petition that he painted the epic of Mem and Zin, the prisoner painted in colors of red, yellow and green, which are the symbols of PKK, and the person holding hands with a fire burning in the middle is considered to be close to represent the flag of the organization”. It is learned that the appeals to Diyarbakır 1st Execution Judgeship and then to Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 1 were also rejected.

(07/211) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan not Responded to…

It is learned that the appeal made on July 23, 2024, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers in order to visit their clients PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.

(07/212) People Detained in Mersin…

On July 22, 2024, 9 people were detained in house raids in Mersin, on the grounds of chanting slogans and dancing halay at Mersin beach. The names of the detainees could not be learned.

(07/213) Journalists on Trial…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 23, 2024, that the indictment of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalists Tunca Öğreten and Murat Baykara for the documentary “Meth Dead End” was accepted by Istanbul Bakırköy Penal Court of First Instance No 13. The indictment demands a sentence for Tunca Öğreten and Murat Baykara on the charges of ‘encouraging drug use’ and ‘failure to report a crime’. The first hearing of the case will be held on October 31, 2024.

(07/214) People on Trial in Kayseri…

On July 22, 2024, the first trial of the case against Yaşar Kılıçkaya and Zeynep Abdullah, who were detained and arrested for attacking an Atatürk monument in the Kocasinan district of Kayseri on June 16, 2024, started at Kayseri Penal Court of First Instance No 14. After the defenses, the court decided to refer the defendants to Adana Dr. Ekrem Tok Mental Health and Diseases Hospital to determine whether they have a criminal capacity or not, to continue detention, and adjourned the trial to a later date.

(07/215) Ban of Access to Web Content…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 23, 2024, that news reports on https://artigercek.com, https://artigercek.com, https://www.birgun.net about the alleged sexual violence at Anadolu Gençlik Derneği (Anatolian Youth Association) were banned to access by Mardin Criminal Peace Judgeship No 2 on July 12, 2024.

(07/216) People Detained…

The Ministry of Interior announced on July 22, 2024, that a total of 73 people were detained in 16 provinces between July 19 and 22, 2024 within the scope of “Kıskaç – 23” operations on the grounds that they were in the “current structuring”, used “ByLock”, etc. and were alleged to be “members of the organization”.
