(12/119) Trans Woman Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment in Ankara…
It is learned from the news coverage of December 23, 2025 that, Ilgaz, a trans woman who was detained in a house raid in Ankara on December 16, 2025, was forced to change her clothes in police presence, was interrogated without a lawyer and was forced to be a spy.
On December 23, 2025, Human Rights Association (IHD) Ankara office made a press declaration and stated the following on torture and ill-treatment allegations “After this procedure, when Ilgaz went to his room to change his clothes, a police officer entered the room with him and forced him to undress completely. Afterwards, the activist was taken to the TEM branch and was interviewed three times in a process when his lawyer had not yet arrived (…) He was asked to inform about anything related to LGBTI+’s and was implicitly imposed to be a spy.”

It is learned from the news coverage of December 22, 2025 that, Amedspor fans who went to Bodrum district of Muğla to watch the football match between Bodrumspor and Amedspor were attacked by a racist group and 1 person got wounded due to the attack.

On December 22, 2025, private security units intervened the protest at Ankara University Faculty of Language, History and Geography campus to protest the death of a trans prisoner in prison, using physical violence. It is learned that no one was detained during the intervention.

It is learned that 27 people are detained on December 23, 2025 through an Izmir based investigation against the participants of the protest in Izmir for the closure of “well-type” prisons.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 23, 2025 that, on December 16, 2025, three people including trans activist Ilgaz were detained by Anti-Terror Branch Directorate in house raids in Ankara, on the grounds of an investigation opened three years ago. While one of the detainees was released on the same day, two other detainees, whose detention periods were extended twice, were released with a ban on leaving the country by the criminal court of peace to which they were referred.

As part of an investigation launched by Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office against Şile Municipality, 22 people are detained in house raids in Istanbul on December 23, 2025, on the allegations of ‘establishing an illegal organization to commit crime’, ‘extortion’, ‘bribery’ and ‘bid rigging’.

The trial of the case against Die Welt newspaper writer Deniz Yücel, on the charges of ‘insulting the President’ and ‘publicly degrading the state and judicial organs’ for his articles, continued on December 23, 2025 at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2. The court rejected the request to lift the arrest warrant against Deniz Yücel and adjourned the hearing to October 1, 2026.

On December 22, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of December 22, 2025 that Justice and Development Party (AKP) Kars MP made the following phobic and discriminatory statements in his speech at the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey:
“Family is sacred for our nation, no one should do social engineering on our families. Unfortunately, LGBT, homosexuality propaganda is being made during the budget negotiations; this is a disgrace, this is a disgrace (…) One of the biggest threats to our country is LGBT perversion. It is fitting for the Veteran Assembly to put an end to this disgrace.”
