(11/246) Military Operation to North and East Syria…

It is learned that 1 soldier (Mustafa Akkaya) who got wounded due to being hit by an armoured vehicle on November 23, 2019 within the military operation of Turkish Armed Forces to north and east Syria, died in hospital on November 23, 2019.

(11/247) Interventions and Detentions Related to Reactions Against Military Operation to North and East Syria…

On November 22, 2019 46 people are detained in house raids in Adana on the grounds of social media posts about Turkish Armed Forces operation to North and east Syria. The names of detained people are unknown.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 23, 2019 that 2 HPG militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in Pülümür district of Tunceli on October 4, 2019.

(11/249) People Subjected to Physical Violence of Private Security Guards in Erzurum…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 23, 2019 that, 2 people (Hanifi Zengin and Emircan Zengin) who came to metropolitan municipality building in Erzurum to attend the public meeting on November 21, 2019, were forced out of the building and were subjected to physical violence by private security guards. It is reported that Emircan Zengin’s arm was broken due to violence. It is learned that 2 people were taken to Gürcükapı Police Station by the police and were released afterwards.

(11/250) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1111 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on November 22, 23, and 24, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on November 22, 2019, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Merve Demirel) and at 18.00 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Merve Demirel) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on November 23, 2019, 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Merve Demirel) and at 18.00 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Merve Demirel) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on November 24, 2019, 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Merve Demirel) and at 18.00 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Merve Demirel) were detained. It is learned that Nazan Bozkurt and Merve Demirel were subjected to physical violence of the police and were handcuffed behind their backs.

Thus in total 12 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on November 22, 23, and 24, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

(11/251) Prevention of Saturday Mothers’ Protest in Istanbul…

Police obstructed all the streets around Galatasaray Square in Istanbul to prevent Saturday Mothers who rally every Saturday for 23 years in the same place to gather for the 765th time on November 23, 2019. Upon police prevention, the group including representatives of political parties, human rights defenders and artists along with families of disappeared people held a press declaration on the street of Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul office.

(11/252) Prevention of Human Rights Defenders’ Event in Istanbul…

 “F sit-in”, which is organized for the 400th time by Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul Branch Prison Watch Committee, to demand release of ill prisoners, on November 23, 2019, is prevented by the police. The police obstructed all the streets around Galatasaray Square. Human rights defenders made the press declaration in front of IHD Istanbul office.

(11/253) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration at Galatasaray Square in Istanbul on November 23, 2019, organized by TAYAD, for Mustafa Koçak who is on hunger strike demanding a fair trial since October 1, 2019 in Izmir Şakran Prison; and detained Cemile Temizkalp by using physical violence. It is learned that the police prevented press from recording the intervention. It is reported that Cemile Temizkalp was released on November 24, 2019.

(11/254) Police Intervention to an Event in Istanbul…

The police intervened people gathering at Cemil Candaş Cultural Center in Şişli district of Istanbul for the concert “Cancel the State of Emergency Decrees” organized by Insurgency Assembly on November 23, 2019, and detained 18 people by using physical violence. Detained people are: Acun Karadağ, Nuriye Gülmen, Nursel Tanrıverdi, Nuri Cihanyandı, Batuhan Şengül, Nuran Ayan, Ziya Özder, Engin Karataş, Volkan Çeşme, Aydoğan Yıldız, Taylan Gültekin, Metin Kaleli, Yaprak Türkmen, Cenk Turan, Can Karakulak, Sevcan Akdoğan, Ali Ihsan Akgün and Cansu (unknown surname). The concert was banned by Beyoğlu Sub-governorate on November 21, 2019.

(11/255) Detained People in Istanbul…

On November 24, 2019, 7 people distributing leaflets about “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women” in Esenyurt district of Istanbul are detained. Detained people are: Ayfer Yılmaz, Muzaffer İpek, Türkan Sünbül, Elvan Uçar, Mürvet Kesen, Zübeyde Ağırbaş, Maynur Yılmaz.

(11/256) Detained Students in Izmir…

It is learned that 6 students, members of Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) were subjected to phycial violence of the police and were detained on November 22, 2019 at Ege University Campus where President Erdoğan came for opening of a mosque. It is learned that students’ cell phones were seized by the police and they were kept in police car for 5 hours, before being released without giving official statement.

(11/257) Raid to Political Party Offices in Antep…

Diyar Bayram, 1 of 57 members and executives of People’s Democratic Party (HDP) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) who were detained by the police raiding HDP’s provincial office in Antep and offices in Şahinbey and Şehitkamil districts on November 14, 2019 is arrested on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on November 24, 2019. 6 people (Ramazan Kuas, Müslüm Özkan, Sultan Özalp, Cuma Ali Taşçı, Servet Bayram, Azime Bali, Halil Kılıç) are released on judicial control conditions on the same day. Thus 25 people in total are arrested, while 32 people provided that 29 of them on judicial control conditions are released.

It is learned that the police raided a house in Kayapınar district of Diyarbakır at around 03.30 on November 23, 2019 and detained Fekrat Kurt. It is reported that where Fekrat Kurt was taken to is unknown.

It is learned that a group of police with face masks raided a cafe in Yenişehir district of Diyarbakır on November 23, 2019 and detained a person named İbrahim Ay by using physical violence.

It is learned that 1 person (Zeynep Konğ) who was detained in a house raid in Nusaybin district of Mardin on November 21, 2019, is released on judicial control conditions on November 22, 2019.

It is learned that 1 person (Hatice Köşker) is detained in a house raid in Balıkesir on November 22, 2019 and is taken to Adana for investigation.

(11/262) Detained People in Erzurum…

8 people who were detained by gendarmerie in house raids in Karayazı district of Erzurum on November 22, 2019 are released on November 23, 2019. Detained people are: Tufan Yılmaz, Sedi Yılmaz, Nimet Yılmaz, Gıyasettin Sönmez, Mahfuz Sönmez, Şemsettin Bülbül, Abdülkerim Bülbül and Salih Kartal.

Fuat Şengül from Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) Izmir branch, who was detained through an investigation on his meetings with a client, in Balıkesir on November 20, 2019 is arrested on November 22, 2019.

(11/264) The Case Against Arrested Journalist…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 24, 2019 that, the indictment of Muş Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist İdris Sayılğan, who is kept in Trabzon E Type Prison, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media’ is accepted by Muş Heavy Penal Court No 2.  A case has been opened against İdris Sayılğan on the same court and the court has sentenced him to 8 years and 3 months on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on January 24, 2019.

(11/265) The Case Against Writer Fikret Başkaya…

The case against writer Fikret Başkaya, on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ for his article “Actual Terror is State’s Terror” which was published on Özgür Üniversite website on November 7, 2016, is held on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 21 on November 22, 2019. The court acquitted Fikret Başkaya.

(11/266) People on Trial in Şırnak…

The first trial against 9 people including Hasan Birlik, for attending funeral of Lokman Birlik, is held on Şırnak Heavy Penal Court No 3 on November 22, 2019. Lokman Birlik was shot by the police in Şırnak and his dead body was dragged around an armoured vehicle. The indictment demands sentence for 9 people on the charges of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and ‘inciting hatred and hostility among people’. The court acquitted 9 people.

(11/267) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against 11 people (journalists Perihan Erkılınç Okay, Mehmet Şahin and Berfin Aslan, Volkan Atmaca, Umut Akgül, Selda Erbil, Melek Andan, İlayda Çalasın, Rojen Zaman, Gamze Taşçı and Metin Yılmaz) on the charge of ‘violation of Law on Demonstrations and Meetings No 2911’ is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 25 on November 22, 2019. 11 people were detained by the police intervening the press declaration in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on August 23, 2019, to protest trustee appointments to Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van. After defence statements the court decided to take official statements of Gamze Taşçı and Metin Yılmaz, who are arrested through another case, and adjourned the trial to January 16, 2020.

(11/268) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On November 22, 2019, 53 of 92 military members on active duty for whom a warrant is issued through an Ankara based investigation on Turkish Air Forces personnel, are detained.

8 of 12 people who were detained in operations covering 9 cities through an Urfa based investigation are arrested on November 22, 2019 while 4 people are released on judicial control conditions.

On November 22, 2019 46 people including military members on active duty are detained in operations covering 23 cities through a Bursa based investigation.

It is learned that 80 of 124 people who were detained on November 19, 2019 and following days through an Izmir based investigation on Turkish Armed Forces personnel, are arrested on November 23, 2019 and 33 people are released on judicial control conditions. 9 people were released after statement procedures at the police while 2 people are still under custody.

(11/269) Preventions of November 25 Protests…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 24, 2019 that Beyoğlu Sub-Governorate banned the march for “November 25 International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women” at Tünel Square in Istanbul.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 22, 2019 that 4 busses used for public transportation by Batman Municipality, which has been covered in purple and in slogans “We defend life against violence”, “We, the women are strong together” and “No to violence against women” are stopped by the police on November 21, 2019 and were banned from traffic on the grounds of ‘making political propaganda’.

(11/270) Ban of Events in Ağrı and Van…

Ağrı Governorate made a declaration on November 22, 2019 and announced that, all open and indoor events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, festivals, concerts, delivering leaflets and so on are banned for 15 days as of November 22, 2019.

Van Governorate made a declaration on November 24, 2019 and announced that, all open and indoor events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, festivals, concerts, delivering leaflets and so on are banned for 15 days as of November 25, 2019. All events are banned in Van for 1111 days since November 21, 2016.
