(08/094) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…
According to news reports published on August 21, 2025, political prisoners at Kocaeli Kandıra No. 2 F-Type Prison were only allowed to use their weekly 10-hour rights to conversation and sports activities for a maximum of 5 hours, and the open and closed visitation time for political prisoners was reduced from 1.5 hours to 1 hour.

According to news reports published on August 24, 2025, it was learned that on August 21, 2025, a person named Şeyhmus Sebuktekin was subjected to physical violence by guards on the street in the Artuklu district of Mardin.
It was learned that Şeyhmus Sebuktekin, who was detained, was arrested by the magistrate’s court on charges of “resisting law enforcement.” It was reported that an investigation was launched against the security guards.

According to news reports on August 23, 2025, at least two people were subjected to torture and other ill-treatment by a police officer during an argument in the Pendik district of Istanbul and were injured in various parts of their bodies.
Y.G., who was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment by the police, stated the following in his statement to the press: “The police came and stood next to us. Our friend said, ‘Is that you, Ömer?’ and looked inside the car. As he was looking, the police officer started shouting at us. He shouted, ‘You son of a b*tch, who do you think you are looking inside the car?’ and started cursing at us for no reason. I immediately took out my phone and started recording video when the police officer got out of the car. Then a commotion broke out. They yelled and shouted at us. They came toward us and pushed us around. There were three police officers. Two of them tried to calm down the officer who was attacking us. They said, ‘Let’s go,’ ‘Forget it,’ (…) Finally, he left, took pepper spray from the car, and came back. He immediately started spraying pepper spray in our faces. He tried to take my phone because we were filming, but I didn’t give it to him. He sprayed pepper spray directly on my phone and my face.”

According to news reports on August 22, 2025, Azerbaijani refugee/migrant and Istanbul University student Nanaxanım Babazade was detained for participating in a protest against an increase in meal prices at her school and was subjected to strip searches and other torture and ill-treatment at the deportation center where she was taken, and was forced to sign a “voluntary return” document. “voluntary return” document. The report also stated that Nanaxanım Babazade, who was first taken to the Arnavutköy Deportation Center and then to the Çatalca Deportation Center, had marks on various parts of her body as a result of physical violence.
Nanaxanım Babazade’s lawyer stated the following in a statement to the press: ” Istanbul University is increasing meal prices. And they are objecting to this along with their other friends. Because they objected to the meal price increase, they either recorded it on camera or detained Nanak based on someone’s complaint (…) At the Çatalca Return Center, they didn’t even allow him to change his clothes. Male police officers watched while she was searched by hand, naked. She told her friend, ‘Other male police officers watched while they searched me.’ There were bruises on her neck and right arm. She even asked for water at the police station, but they didn’t give her any.”
