(04/172) Suspicious Death in Prison…

According to news reports published on April 23, 2026, it was learned that an inmate named Dılbaz Abi, who was being held at the Batman Beşiri Open Prison, lost his life at the Batman Training and Research Hospital, where he was receiving treatment. The reports claim that Dılbaz Abi committed suicide. The news reports also state that the inmate had been in prison for nearly 30 years and that his release had been adjourned for three months by a decision of the Prison Administration and Observation Board.

(04/173) Individuals Subjected to Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Istanbul and Hatay…

In a statement issued on April 22, 2026, the People’s Law Office stated that its clients, Muammer Kaya and Cem Dursun, who were detained in Istanbul on April 20, 2026, were subjected to torture and other ill-treatment during their detention and, as a result, sustained injuries in various parts of their bodies.

In a statement issued on April 23, 2026, the People’s Law Office stated that stated that Rezzan Şengül, a member of Grup Yorum who was detained during a roadside check in the Defne district of Hatay on April 20, 2026, was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment both in the police vehicle she was placed in and at the Defne State Hospital where she was taken for a medical examination, and that she sustained injuries in various parts of her body as a result. The statement also noted that Rezzan Şengül was transported from Hatay to Istanbul in handcuffs on a 16-hour journey.

(04/174) Police Intervention During a March in Ankara…

It was reported that a march organized by the Independent Mining Workers’ Union on April 20, 2026, from Kurtuluş Park in Ankara—where a hunger strike and sit-in were ongoing—to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources was blocked by police who intervened using physical force, and that union members were surrounded. It was reported that at least three people were injured during the intervention.

(04/175) Political Party Leader and Others Detained in Uşak…

As part of an investigation targeting Uşak Municipality, 16 out of 19 individuals—including Republican People’s Party (CHP) Uşak Provincial Chairman Celalettin Çoban and Uşakspor President Özhan Özgöbek, were detained as part of an investigation into Uşak Municipality. On April 22, 2026, 16 of the 19 individuals were arrested by the magistrate’s court to which they were referred, on charges of “bribery,” “extortion,” and “tampering with a tender.” Three individuals were released under judicial supervision.

(04/176) The Trial of a Journalist in Ankara…

It was reported that the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding journalist Alican Uludağ—based on news reports published on April 23, 2026—which had previously been dismissed by the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 26 due to lack of jurisdiction, was accepted by the Ankara Criminal Court of First Instance No. 57.

The indictment seeks the journalist’s conviction on charges of “insulting the President,” “publicly disseminating misleading information,” and “publicly defaming the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the state’s judicial organs.” The first hearing of the case will take place on May 21, 2026.

Alican Uludağ was detained on February 19, 2026, and was arrested on February 20, 2026.

(04/177) The Trial of a Journalist in Batman…

The final hearing of the case filed against journalist Mehmet Üçar at the Batman Heavy Penal Court No. 2 was held on April 24, 2026. The court sentenced the journalist to 1 year, 6 months, and 11 days in prison for the crime of “making organization propaganda” and suspended the pronouncement of the sentence.

Mehmet Üçar was arrested on November 26, 2024, and released at the first hearing of the case held on July 8, 2025.

It was learned from news reports on April 23, 2026, that an investigation was launched against Deniz Can Aydın, Chairman of the Socialist Party (SOLDEP), on the grounds of “spreading organization propaganda” based on social media posts regarding Deniz Gezmiş and Mahir Çayan.

It was learned from news reports on April 23, 2026, that an investigation was launched against Abdullah Keskin, Editor-in-Chief of Avesta Publications, on the grounds of “making organization propaganda” based on his social media posts.

(04/180) Mayor Removed from Office…

On April 22, 2026, Onursal Adıgüzel, the mayor of Istanbul’s Ataşehir district, who was arrested on April 22, 2026, was removed from office by the Ministry of the Interior on April 22, 2026.

(04/181) Internet Content Subject to Access Restrictions…

Regarding allegations of fraud in an export transaction involving a company operating in China, https://www.yenicaggazetesi.com/, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr/ (2 news articles) a total of 3 news articles published on these websites have been blocked under Article 8/A of Law No. 5651 on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.
