(09/126) Armed Attack in Manisa…
On 22 September 2026, 11 people, including pupils from the school, were injured as a result of an armed attack carried out outside the İnci Üzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Turgutlu district of Manisa. It has been reported that a child named H.B. (15, f), a pupil at the same school, along with her mother, father and grandfather, were detained in connection with the attack.
(09/127) Police Intervention at a Protest in İzmir…
On 22 September 2026, on the campus of Ege University in İzmir, students set up a stall to protest against the Ministry of the Interior’s circular titled “University Security Measures” and the requirement that press statements, demonstrations and similar actions and events on campus be subject to the rector’s permission, private security units and the police intervened at a stand set up by students to protest against this. They detained 27 people using physical force.
It was reported that when a student reacted to the intervention, a police officer said, “They’re LGBT”, to which the student replied, “Let them be LGBT; I’m LGBT+ too”, prompting the officer to say, “Come along then.”
(09/128) Trial of a Journalist and Others in Şırnak
The trial of 19 people, including journalist Nedim Oruç—who was detained and arrested whilst covering news in the Cizre district of Şırnak—continued on 22 September 2026 at the Şırnak Heavy Penal Court No. 1. The indictment seeks the prosecution of the 19 individuals on charges of “unauthorised possession of dangerous substances”, “completely or partially covering one’s face to conceal one’s identity during meetings and demonstrations”, “spreading organisational propaganda” and “resisting the performance of official duties”. The court rejected the request for the return of equipment seized from journalist Nedim Oruç and adjourned the hearing until 12 November 2026.
The 19 individuals, including Nedim Oruç, were arrested on 14 January 2026 and were released at the first hearing of the case on 24 April 2026.
(09/129) Trial of a Journalist and Others in Istanbul…
The final hearing in the case brought before the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 28 against 84 individuals—including journalist Pınar Gayıp—who were detained during a police intervention at a press conference held in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on 2 December 2024 regarding attacks against Kurds in Syria, was held on 22 September 2026. The court acquitted all 84 individuals.
(09/130) The Trial of a Journalist in Diyarbakır…
The trial of Abdurrahman Gök, editor of the Mezopotamya Agency (MA), which was brought before the DiyarbakırHeavy Penal Court No. 5, continued on 22 September 2026. The indictment seeks the conviction of Abdurrahman Gök on charges of “being a member of an organisation” and “carrying out organisation propaganda”. The court adjourned the hearing until 17 December 2026.
Abdurrahman Gök was detained in Diyarbakır on 25 April 2023 and remanded in custody on 27 April 2023. The journalist was released at the hearing held on 5 December 2023 in the case brought against him at the Diyarbakır 5th Heavy Penal Court.

The trial of journalists Timur Soykan and Barış Pehlivan, brought before the Istanbul Bakırköy Criminal Court of First Instance No. 2 on the grounds of remarks they made during a television programme, resumed on 22 September 2026. The indictment seeks the conviction of the two journalists on the charge of “publicly disseminating misleading information”. The court adjourned the hearing until 22 December 2026.

The trial of 24 people, who were charged with participating in the 2022 METU Pride March, continued on 22 September 2026 at the Ankara Criminal Court of First Instance No. 30. The court adjourned the hearing until 23 December 2026.
(09/133) Imam Subject to an Investigation…
According to press reports on 22 September 2026, it was learned that the Presidency of Religious Affairs had launched an administrative investigation into an imam named Yusuf Kılıç, who was reported to have sent a message to the family of comedian Deniz Göktaş—who had been arrested for making jokes—stating: “As an imam, I stand by you, my brother Deniz.”

According to press reports on 21 September 2026, it was learned that access to the X social media account belonging to theatre artist Orhan Aydın had been restricted.
(09/135) Individuals Detained as Part of an Istanbul-Based Investigation…
On 22 September 2026, it was reported that, as part of an Istanbul-based investigation into the ‘organisation’s current structure’, nine individuals were detained during operations carried out in eight provinces (Istanbul, Ankara, Kocaeli, Karabük, Denizli, Antep, Kayseri, Samsun).
