(09/218) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 21, 2022 that, 5 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Van on June 12, 2022.

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Muhammed Karaçam) died and 2 soldiers were injured in an attack during the Claw-Lock military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces into the IRaqi Kurdistan Regional Government on September 21, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 22, 2022 that, Mehmet Bozan, a prisoner in Ankara Sincan Prison died suspiciously in August, 2022.

Mehmet Bozan, has written 12 letters to tell that he was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment in prison before he died, and in oen of them he states the following: “I am going on a hunger strike as of 28 June, Tuesday, because of pressure, threats and lack of safety. As a Roman prisoner, I was subjected to ill-treatment by the prison administration and correction officers. I was constantly exposed to discrimination, oppression and violence. Authorities are responsible for my death.”

It is learned from the news coverage of September 21, 2022 that, Ayberk Demirdöğen, a prisoner in Bolu F Type Prison was transferred to Antalya Y Type Prison under coercion.

The police prevented the presss declaration to be held outside of Ankara Courthouse after the trial of the Sivas Massacre case on September 21, 2022.

The police prevented the press declaration to be held outside of Ankara Courthouse to protest the dismissal of the case regarding the murder of Musa Anter due to the statute of limitations on September 21, 2022.

(09/223) The Case Against Former HDP MP…

The trial of the case against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former Ankara MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, as per Article 301 of Turkish Penal Code, on the grounds of “degrading Turkish Nation, State of Turkish Republic, the Organs and Institutions of the State” with his expressions in the statement he made under custody on November 4, 2016, is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No. 4 on September 21, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to November 9, 2022.

Based on the same expressions, a lawsuit has been filed against Sırrı Süreyya Önder at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No. 12 and the court has sentenced Önder to 10 months on the charge of “insulting the President”.

The first trial of the case against Kadri Esen, grant owner of the Kurdish newspaper Xwebûn, for his social media posts is held at Diyarbakır Heavy PEnal Court No. 10 on September 21, 2022.

After defence hearings the court sentenced Kadri Esen to 1 year and 3 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and postponed the sentence.

The trial of the case against journalists Osman Akın and Veysi Sarısözen is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 13 on September 21, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for 2 journalists on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. The court adjourned the trial to December 21, 2022.

The trial of the case against 7 people who were detained in the police intervention against the Pride March in Istanbul in 2021, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 18 on September 21, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to January 13, 2023.

(09/27) Police Officer on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against police officer Murat A., on the grounds of hitting and breaking the back of lawyer Zeycan Balcı, during a press declaration on March 30, 2016 in front of Istanbul Court House, is held on Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 22 on September 21, 2022.

The indictment demands sentence for Murat A. on the charges of ‘injury’, ‘intentional injury that cause bone fracture’, ‘extensive use of force’.

The court rejected the request of the complainant’s lawyers for decision of lack of jurisdiction and adjourned the trial to January 18, 2023.

(09/228) Diyarbakır JITEM / Musa Anter Case…

The consolidated case on the murder of Musa Anter in Diyarbakır in 1992 and the activities of JITEM (Gendarmerie Intelligence and Anti-Terror Unit) in Diyarbakır is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 6 on September 21, 2022.

The case known as the “JITEM Main Case” on Diyarbakır Penal Court No 1 and the case regarding the murder of Musa Anter has been consolidated by the Court of Cassation on January 29, 2016.

The court decided to drop the case on the grounds of the statute of limitations.

(09/229) Sivas MAssacre Case…

The trial of the 3 fugitive defendants (Eren Ceylan, Murat Sonkur and Murat Karataş) whose files were separated in the Sivas Massacre case is held at Ankara Hevay Penal Court No. 1 on September 21, 2022. The court decided to continue the arrest warrant for the three defendants, to reject the request for the then-Prime Minister Tansu Çiller to be heard as a witness, and adjourned the trial to January 26, 2023.

(09/230) Public Officials on Trial for Neglect of Duty in Izmir…

The first trial of the case against 9 public officials (then Provincial Family and Social Policies Director Z. Y., police officers A. İ. Ö., G. İ., G. B., R. K. S., sergeant İ. Ö. from the district gendarmerie command, and general administrative services officers M. F. O. and S. S.) on the grounds of ‘neglect of duty’ for the sufficient measures were not taken to protect Serpil Erfındık, who was killed by her ex-husband on December 15, 2013, despite her complaints, is held at İzmir Bayraklı Penal Court of First Instance No. 17 on September 20, 2022. After defence hearings the court decided to bring the defendants who did not attend the hearing by force and adjourned the trial. The criminal complaint filed by Serpil Erfındık’s family against the officers, resulted in non-prosecution after the İzmir Governorate’s Office did not give permission for the investigation. And the Constitutional Court has decided on September 29, 2021 that the officers in charge were responsible for the death of Serpil Erfındık, and ruled that the closed investigation be reopened.
