(11/171) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on November 21, 2023 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(11/172) People Detained in Ankara…

On November 21, 2023, 10 people, including Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) member Semra Demir, were detained in house raids in Ankara. The reason for the detention is unknown. The detainees whose names could be learned are Deniz Akbıyık, Yeşim Biryan, Semra Demir, Çağla Yeşim Çakır, Doğukan Semir, Büşra Gerçek, Hasan Çetinkaya, Fırat Sözmen and Anıl Yeşiltepe.

(11/173) ESP and SGDF Member and Executives Detained in Diyarbakır…

On November 22, 2023, Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Deputy Co-Chair Beycan Taşkıran, Socialist Women’s Assemblies (SKM) MYK member Satiye Ok, Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) members Serhat Eren and Muhammet Altınkaya and 1 unidentified person were detained in house raids in Diyarbakır.

(11/174) Union Executive, ESP Member Detained in Bursa…

On November 22, 2023, 3 people including Murat Pınar, secretary of Eğitim-Sen Bursa branch and Rıza Çimen, a member of ESP, were detained in house raids in Bursa.

(11/175) People Detained in Istanbul…

23 people who were detained through an investigation in Istanbul were released by the court on judicial control condition on November 21, 2023.

(11/176) HDP Member on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Hüsamettin Tanrıkulu, former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly member, continued on November 21, 2023, at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 29. The indictment demands a sentence for Hüsamettin Tanrıkulu on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. Following the defences, the court ruled to merge the current case with another case against Hüsamettin Tanrıkulu, decided to continue the detention of Hüsamettin Tanrıkulu, and adjourned the trial to February 15, 2024.

(11/177) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Ramazan Yurttapan, Managing Editor of the Demokratik Modernite magazine, Haydar Ergül, editor, Cihan Doğan and Nazan Üstündağ continued on November 21, 2023 at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2. The indictment demands a sentence for 2 people on the charge of ‘insulting the President.’ The court adjourned the trial to April 18, 2024.

(11/178) Journalists on Trial in Ankara…

The trial of the case against journalists Barış Pehlivan and Mustafa Büyüksipahi on the complaint of a former member of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) continued on November 21, 2023 at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 19. The indictment demands sentence for journalists on the charge of “insulting a public official”. The court adjourned the hearing to December 7, 2023.

(11/179) People on Trial in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 21, 2023, that the case against 3 children who were detained for not standing up during the National Anthem before the Amedspor Menemenspor game was held at Diyarbakır Juvenile Court No 2 on June 14, 2023, and the court acquitted the children.

On October 24, 2023, the Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 13 held the final hearing of the case against 17 people who were detained for not standing up during the National Anthem before the Amedspor Pendikspor game on May 7, 2022, and the court acquitted 17 people.

(11/180) Rights Defenders on Trial in Muğla…

It is learned that on November 13, 2023, Izmir Regional Court of First Instance Penal Department No 10 concluded on the appeal against the conviction of Füsun Ergün and Gülören Demir, who were forced out of the Akbelen Forest area by gendarmerie using physical violence to intervene in the protest against the lignite mine in Akbelen Forest in Milas district of Muğla, on August 11, 2021; and the court rejected the appeal.

(11/181) Metropolitan Mayor Under Investigation…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 21, 2023, that an investigation was initiated by the Ministry of Interior against Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer for his remarks about Vahdettin, the last sultan of the Ottoman Empire, in his speech on October 9, 2022.

(11/182) Journalist Under Investigation in Ankara…

It is learned that Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against journalist Yıldız Tar for the article titled “The Hometown of Judges and Prosecutors Who Want to Be Famous” on the grounds of ‘targeting people who took part in the fight against terrorism’ and that Yıldız Tar gave an official statement at Ankara Provincial Security Directorate Anti-Terror Department on November 21, 2023.

(11/183) The Hrant Dink Case…

The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against Ogün Samast, who was sentenced to 22 years and 10 months in prison for the assassination of Hrant Dink, the editor-in-chief of Agos newspaper, and released on probation on November 15, 2023 “in consideration of his good behaviour”, was accepted by the Istanbul Juvenile High Penal Court No 2 on November 21, 2023. The indictment demands Ogün Samast be sentenced for ‘committing a crime on behalf of an illegal armed organization without being a member of it’. The first hearing of the case will be held on December 26, 2023.

(11/184) Ban of Access to Web Content…

It is learned that the content on https://ifade.org.tr website was banned by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No. 10 on November 21, 2023, on the grounds of violation of personal rights, and the content was ordered to be deleted.
