(11/177) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 22, 2022 that, 2 militants died on August 18, 2022; 1 militant died on September 19, 2022; and 1 militant died on September 24, 2022 in clashes between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Metina area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

(11/178) Bomb Attack in Istanbul…

5 people who were detained on November 19, 2022 in relation to the bomb attack in Istiklal Street of Beyoğlu district in Istanbul killed 6 people including 2 children, and wounded 81 people on November 13, 2022; are arrested by the court on November 21, 2022. The total number of arrestees raised to 24.

17 of 51 people, including Ahlam Albashır, the Syrian citizen who was claimed to be the assaulter who have been detained earlier, were arrested by the court on November 17, 2022, and 2 of them were arrested on November 20, 2022. 5 people were released provided that 3 of them will be on judicial control conditions, and the court has decided to deport 29 people.

(11/179) Children Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment of Gendarmerie in Urfa…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 22, 2022 that, 3 children (M. S. A., E. A., A. A.) who were detained on the grounds of removing the flag in a school in Viranşehir district of Urfa, were subjected to torture and ill-treatment at the gendarmerie station they were taken to. It is reported that 3 children were released by the court on judicial control conditions.

(11/180) Police Intervention to Protests in Ankara, Diyarbakır, Hakkari, İstanbul, Mersin and Van…

The police intervened in the press declaration held in Diyarbakır on November 21, 2022 to protest the “Claw-Sword” military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces into some regions of Syria and the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government. It is learned that 47 people were detained by the police using physical violence. It is also reported that the police prevented journalists from recording.

The police intervened in the people gathering by the call of Istanbul Medical Chamber, on November 22, 2022 at Sirkeci Post Office in Fatih district of Istanbul to send cards and letters to Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı, the Turkish Medical Association (TMA) chair and the HRFT executive board member who was arrested for her statements to a news channel. It is learned that the police also prevented journalists.

It is learned that the justice watch for ill prisoners which was to be held in Diyarbakır on November 22, 2022 was prevented by the police on the grounds of the governorate’s ban on events.

The Health and Social Services Employees’ Union (SES) member and former executive of Diyarbakır Medical Chamber Mustafa Yaşa, who was detained in Diyarbakır on November 18, 2022, is released on November 21, 2022.

(11/184) Journalists on Trial in Van…

The first trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency grant holder Ferhat Çelik and Jiyan TV grant holder İdris Yayla, is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on November 22, 2022. The case was opened for the news reports titled “It is the same prosecutor giving the detention order for journalists”, regarding the journalists who were detained after making news reports about the incident in Çatak district of Van where 1 person died and 1 person was injured as a result of being thrown from a helicopter. The indictment demands sentence for the journalists on the charge of ‘targeting officers who took charge in fight against terrorism’. After defence hearing the court adjourned the trial to January 23, 2023.

The trial of the case against journalist Cengiz Çandar and Kemal Işıktaş, over a social media post, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 30 on November 22, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for journalists on the charge of ‘praising offence and offender’. The court adjourned the trial to December 13, 2022.

(11/186) Students on Trial for Participating in a Protest in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 12 students of Boğaziçi University, who have been detained for carrying a “rainbow flag” in a protest against the new rector appointed by President, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 24 on November 22, 2022. The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded sentence for 12 students up to 3 years on the charge of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court adjourned the trial to December 29, 2022.

(11/187) Ban of Events in Cities…

Diyarbakır Governorate’s Office made a declaration on November 21, 2022 and announced that all events such as press statements, assemblies, marches, hunger strikes, sit-ins, rallies, opening stands and tents, distribution of leaflets/brochures, hanging posters/banners are banned for 7 days as of November 21, 2022, on the grounds of “calls that are aimed at creating a discriminatory and misleading public opinion against cross-border operations”.

Elazığ Governorate’s Office made a declaration on November 21, 2022 and announced that all events such as meetings, open-door and indoor assemblies, press statements, opening stands and tents, sit-ins, commemorations, collecting petitions, distribution of leaflets, hanging banners are banned for 15 days as of November 21, 2022.

Şırnak Governorate’s Office made a declaration on November 22, 2022 and announced that all events such as open-door and indoor meetings, protests, sit-ins, demonstrations, human-chain marches, public talks, any kind of audio and visual public events with vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stand and tents, press statements, collecting petitions, flying lanterns and balloons, using aerial vehicles, commemorations, panel talks, conferences, festivals, theatre plays, pantomime shows, distribution of leaflets/brochures, hanging posters/banners are banned for 7 days as of November 22, 2022.

It is learned that 26 people were detained through two investigations based in Ankara on November 22, 2022.

(11/189) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared on November 21, 2022 that 73 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the number of Covid-19 cases is 28,808 between October 31-November 13, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 101,400 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 17,005,537 as of November 13, 2022.
