(07/150) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from news coverage of July 21, 2025 that, Semra Akgül, a prisoner in Diyarbakır Women’s Prison was threatened by soldiers in the hospital where she was taken for treatment, saying “Let’s get rid of her tonight”, “Open the doors tonight, let’s get rid of all terrorists”. It is reported that an investigation was initiated against the soldiers and they gave their statements to the prosecutor’s office.

18 of 40 people who were detained during the police intervention against the march in Çankaya district of Ankara on July 20, 2025, marking the 10th anniversary of Suruç Massacre, are released by the criminal court of peace on judicial control conditions on July 21, 2025. 22 people were released after statement procedures at the police on July 20, 2025.

8 of 17 people, including municipality employees, who were detained on July 18, 2025 and following dates within the scope of an investigation against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), were arrested by the criminal court of peace on July 21, 2025 on charges of ‘membership of a criminal organization’, ‘extortion’, ‘bribery’, ‘qualified fraud’, ‘unlawful seizure of personal data’, ‘bid rigging’. 9 people were released on judicial control conditions. The names of the arrested people are: Ali Cüneyt Özdemir, Can Karataş, Cengiz Tosun, Deniz Erzincan, Erdinç Karataş, Mehmet Karataş, Murat Timuçin Altıer and Taylan Çokyiğit.

On July 22, 2025, 3 people are detained in house raids in Antalya through an investigation against Antalya Metropolitan Municipality. The names of detainees could not be learned.

On July 21, 2025, 4 people are detained in house raids in Mardin on the allegations of making propaganda for an illegal organization on social media. 4 people were released on the same day after their statements to the prosecutor’s office.

It is learned that 3 news reports about a construction company and its owner on https://12punto.com. tr/, https://www.birgun.net/ and https://bianet.org/ websites are banned to access on the grounds of protection of national security and public order by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 8 on July 18, 20256.
It is learned that 1 news report about a prosecutor on https://www.birgun.net/ website is banned to access by Karabük Yenice Penal Court of Peace and the news report is ordered to be deleted.
