(12/211) Police Prevention to a Protest in Tunceli…

The police prevented the press declaration of the Health and Social Services’ Employees Union (SES) Tunceli branch, in front of the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services regarding the mobbing allegations, on December 21, 2022. It is learned that the press declaration was held elsewhere.

(12/212) Journalist on Trial in Ankara…

The final trial of the case against journalist Hayri Demir, on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 15 on December 21, 2022. The court sentenced Hayri Demir to 2 years 9 months and 22 days on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

(12/213) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Evrensel newspaper’s editor-in-chief Görkem Kınacı, upon the complaint of Sakarya Governorate’s Office regarding the news report titled “Racist attack in Sakarya: Dad dies, son under treatment” about the racist attack in Sakarya on December 16, 2018; is held at Istanbul Bakırköy Penal Court of First Instance No. 21 on December 22, 2022. Görkem Kınacı attended the trial and made his defence. The court adjourned the trial to April 4, 2023.

The trial of the case against Rosa Women’s Association executive member lawyer Elif Tirenç İpek Ulaş, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 8 on December 22, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to February 22, 2023.

The final trial of the case against 22 people who were detained by the police intervening in the commemoration held in Istanbul on July 20, 2019 for those who lost their lives in the Suruç Massacre is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 37 on December 21, 2022. The court sentenced 22 people to 1 year and 3 months each on the charge of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 21, 2022 that the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) issued Halk TV channel (3 times), TELE 1 TV channel (2 times) and Fox TV channel once with administrative fines.

It is learned that 20 people were detained in Istanbul on December 22, 2022.
