(04/147) Hunger Strike in Prison…
It is learned from news coverage of April 22, 2025 that, 2 prisoners (Adnan Özcan and Ahmet Bilal Bay) in Ankara Sincan High Security Prison No 2, and 2 prisoners (Mazlum Ortaç and Onur Yoldaş) in Tekirdağ Karatepe High Security Prison went on an indefinite hunger strike against isolation in Y and S type prisons.
(04/148) House Confinement Decision Against Trade Unionist…
On April 21, 2025, upon the objection of the prosecutor’s office to the decision of April 17, 2025 to lift the house confinement order against Mehmet Türkmen, chair of Textile, Weaving and Leather Workers’ Union (BİRTEK SEN), the criminal court of peace once again issued house confinement order against Mehmet Türkmen.
Union chair Mehmet Türkmen was detained in Antep on February 14, 2025 and was released afterwards. On February 16, 2025, Mehmet Türkmen was detained for the second time and was arrested on February 17, 2025. On March 24, 2025, Mehmet Türkmen was placed under house confinement upon the objection of the prosecutor’s office to the release decision.

A person named N.K. who opened banners with the words “AK Party is the Cause Inflation is the Effect” and “Don’t Use God’s Religion Reis” and threw his cell phone towards the platform where the President was speaking at an event in Istanbul on April 19, 2025, is arrested by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 6 on April 21, 2025.

On April 22, 2025, it is learned that private security units intervened the students who opened a banner with the slogan “Ali İsmail is University” on Ankara University campus and seized the banner.
(04/151) Human Rights Defender on Trial in Istanbul…
The trial of the case against human rights defender Nimet Tanrıkulu is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24 on April 22, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for Nimet Tanrıkulu on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court adjourned the trial to July 1, 2025.
Nimet Tanrıkulu was detained in Istanbul on November 26, 2024, was arrested in Ankara on November 29, 2025 and was released at the first hearing of the case on March 4, 2025.

The first trial of the case against 49 people for participating in the protests at Saraçhane Square in Fatih district of Istanbul to protest the detention and arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, started on April 21, 2025 at the 70th Criminal Court of First Instance. The indictment demands sentence for the defendants on the charge of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court adjourned the trial to October 24, 2025.
