(06/176) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 21, 2019 that, 1 HPG militant who is a German citizen named Sarah Handelmann, died in an air bombardment of Turkish Air Force to Qandil area in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 7, 2019; and 1 militant died in a clash in rural areas of Hakkari’s Yüksekova district on June 18, 2019.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 22, 2019 that, 3 militants died in a clash in rural areas of Hakkari’s Yüksekova district on June 12, 2019; and 1 militant died in a clash in rural areas of Bitlis on June 14, 2019.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 23, 2019 that 4 militants died in a clash in rural areas of Ağrı’s Doğubayazıt district on June 18, 2019.

(06/177) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 21, 2019 that prisoners in Elazığ High Security Prison No 2 were forced to stand in military order during roll-calls and that the prisoners who reject to do so were subjected to torture and ill-treatment. It is also stated in the news reports that talks of prisoners with their lawyers were video-recorded.

IYI Party member Zihni Pamukçu was attacked by anonymous people in Ümraniye district of Istanbul on June 22, 2019. It is learned that Zihni Pamukçu was injured due to attack and was discharged from hospital after being treated.

(06/179) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 957 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 21, 22, and 23, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 21, 2019, 2 people (İlker Işık and Cemal Öksüz) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ and Nazan Bozkurt) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 22, 2019, 2 people (Alev Şahin and Cemal Öksüz) and at 18.00 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Merve Demirel) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 23, 2019, 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Merve Demirel) and at 18.00 3 people (Nazan Bozkurt, İlker Işık and Merve Demirel) were detained.

Thus in total 13 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 21, 22, and 23, 2019. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(06/180) Prevention of Saturday Mothers’ Protest in Istanbul…

Police obstructed all the streets around Galatasaray Square in Istanbul to prevent Saturday Mothers who rally every Saturday for 23 years in the same place to gather for the 743rd time on June 22, 2019. Upon police prevention, the group including representatives of political parties, human rights defenders and artists along with families of disappeared people held a press declaration on the street of Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul office.

(06/181) Prevention of Human Rights Defenders’ Event in Istanbul…

 “F sit-in”, which is organized for the 378th time by Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul Branch Prison Watch Committee, to demand release of ill prisoners, on June 22, 2019, is prevented by the police. The police obstructed all the streets around Galatasaray Square. Human rights defenders made the press declaration in front of IHD Istanbul office.

(06/182) Police Intervention Against LGBTI+ Pride in Izmir…

The police used pepper spray to intervene the press declaration in Alsancak, Izmir, which was held to protest Izmir Governorate’s ban on the pride to be held on June 22, 2019 within 7th Izmir LGBTI+ Pride Week. The police detained 18 people during and after press declaration. The detainees were released after statement procedures on the same day. The names of detained people are: Aydan Güngör, Eda Yakar, Aysel Türkü Demirtaş, Selahaddin Kubatoğlu, Hasan Utku Aydın, Barış B. Atal, Alper Bekir Demir, Ela Beyaz, Yalçın Tekin, Evin Albayrak, Arife Albayrak, Ayşe Özkan, Toprak Biroğlu, Meriç Erdem, Bilhan Gözcü, Özgür Gür, Ozan Hazidere, Şeyma Karataş.

(06/183) Detained HDP Members in Diyarbakır…

On June 21, 2019, People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly members Hatice Büşra Kuyun and Hüsamettin Tanrıkulu are detained after a general information check in Diyarbakır. The reason of detention is unknown.

(06/184) Detained ESP and SGDF Members in Ankara…

On June 21, 2019, 5 people are detained in house raids in Ankara through an investigation against Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) and Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) members. The names of detained people are: Cem Koç, Volkan Muyan, Günce Kurşun, Melis Çevik and Cansu Yumuşak.

(06/185) Detained High-School Students in Izmir…

2 high-school students, who were detained on June 20, 2019 in Izmir were released by the court on June 21, 2019. The students have been detained in relation to a press declaration in front of Ensar Foundation in Izmir, where a banner with “45 children were raped in Ensar Foundation. No detergent will wash out your mess. You are dirty” expression was held.

(06/186) Detained Soldiers in Tekirdağ…

It is learned that 5 soldiers who were on compulsory military service at Mechanised Artillery Brigade No 8 in Tekirdağ, are detained on June 21, 2019 on the grounds of ‘making propaganda on social media’. It is learned that 5 soldiers were taken to Provincial Gendarmerie Command.

Norwegian citizen Roger Carlsen, who was detained on June 19, 2019 in Bingöl, is arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on June 22, 2019.

(06/188) ÖGİ Spokesperson on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The indictment of Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office against Hakkı Boltan, spokesperson of Free Journalists Initiative (ÖGİ) is accepted by Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 12 on June 21, 2019. The indictment demands jail sentence up to 6 years for Hakkı Boltan on the charges of ‘insulting the President’ and ‘insulting a public officer due to his duty’. The first trial of the case will be held on November 14, 2019.

The final trial of the case against Şemsa Yurtgül, for the speech she made at a meeting of HDP in Kızıltepe district of Mardin before elections on June 24, 2018, is held on Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 4 on June 21, 2019. Şemsa Yurtgül has lost his son at the ISIS bombing in Suruç district of Urfa on July 20, 2015. The court acquitted Şemsa Yurtgül.

(06/190) People on Trial in Kocaeli…

The final trial of the case against 16 academicians and students for the declaration held in Anıtpark campus of Kocaeli University on February 13, 2017, to support the academicians who were dismissed by state of emergency decrees, is held on Kocaeli Penal Court of First Instance No 7 on June 22, 2019. The court acquitted 16 people.

(06/191) Hande Buse Şeker Case…

The first trial of the case against police officer V.H. on the grounds of sexually assaulting and killing trans woman Hande Buse Şeker in Izmir on January 9, 2019, is held on Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 4 on June 21, 2019. The indictment demands sentence for the police officer on the charges of ‘injury by probable intent’, ‘wilful murder’, ‘qualified robbery with the use of weapon in property’, ‘insulting the memory of a person’, ‘qualified sexual assault’. The court rejected the demands of İzmir Association of Young LGBTI+, Izmir Bar Association, Human Rights Association and The Association for Legal Aid Against Sexual Violence in order to intervene the case. The court decided to continue detention of V.H. and adjourned the trial to September 13, 2019.

(06/192) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

13 of 59 people including 1 colonel, 1 lieutenant colonel, 1 major and 1 lieutenant who were detained on June 18, 2019 in operations covering 30 cities through an Izmir based investigation against Turkish Armed Forces personnel, are arrested by the court on June 22, 2019.46 people are released on judicial control conditions.

(06/193) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against 81 people on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 16 is held on June 21, 2019. The court sentenced 51 people to jail penalties from 1 year 6 months 22 days to 10 years and 6 months. The court acquitted 22 people and separated the cases against 8 fugitives.

The final trial of the case against 35 people including Commodore Tezcan Kızılelma, commander of the main naval air base, for the incidents at The Fleet Command during July 15 coup attempt, is held on Kocaeli Heavy Penal Court No 5 on June 21, 2019. The court sentenced Tezcan Kızılelma to heavy life imprisonment on the charge of ‘violating the Constitution’. The court sentenced 7 people to jail penalties from 6 year 3 months to 7 years and 6 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court sentenced 1 person to 1 year and 8 months on the charge of ‘protecting an offender’. The court found no ground for sentencing 1 person, acquitted 6 people and separated the cases against 19 people.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 21, 2019 that, the application of Istanbul LGBTI+ Pride Week Committee to Istanbul Governorate in order to hold the pride march in Bakırköy district of Istanbul is rejected. The pride march which was planned to be in Taksim was banned previously.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 22, 2019 that autograph session of writer Mihdi Perinçek in Derik district of Mardin is banned by Derik Sub-governorate.

(06/196) Curfew in Bitlis…

Bitlis Governorate made a declaration on June 22, 2019 and announced curfew in 10 villages of Tatvan district as of 05.00 until 20.00 on June 23, 2019.

(06/197) Suspended Local Authorities in Diyarbakır…

Local authorities of 10 villages of Diyarbakır’s Lice district were suspended by Lice Sub-governorate after elections on March 31. It is learned from the news coverage of June 22, 2019 that, 6 of them were reinstated on the grounds of non-prosecution decision of Lice Public Prosecutor’s Office. It is learned that investigation against 4 local authorities is still in process. The 6 reinstated local authorities are: Şenlik neighbourhood – Fikri Ertaş, Karahasan neighbourhood – Hanifi Gülen, Kali neighbourhood – Çetin Dirin, Bayırlı neighbourhood – Aziz Doğan, Yünlüce neighbourhood – Mekin Yalçın and Serince neighbourhood – Sevat Polat.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 21, 2019 that, the entry on Ekşi Sözlük website on “the allegation of affair of Berat Albayrak and Özge Ulusoy”, about the Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak, is banned to access by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No 1 on June 18, 2019.
