It is learned from the news coverage of February 21, 2025 that, Nuriye Aslan, co-mayor of Akdeniz district of Mersin, Nuriye Aslan and city council member Neslihan Oruç were transferred from Mersin Tarsus Prison to Kayseri Bünyan Women’s Prison against their will.
It is learned from the news coverage of February 22, 2025 that, Seda Baykan, a prisoner in Diyarbakır Women’s Prison was threatened by another prisoner saying “I will burn you with hot water”.
(02/219) Prisoner’s Release Postponed by Prison Administration and Observation Board…
It is learned from the news coverage of February 22, 2025 that, the release of Mehmet Sait Yıldırım, a prisoner in Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison No 1, who was to complete the execution of his life sentence on February 27, 2025, was postponed to December 27, 2025, on the grounds of ‘lack of good behaviour’ and ‘lack of remorse’, by the decision of Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK).
It is learned from news coverage of February 24, 2025 that the release of Nedim Yıldız, a prisoner in Bolu F Type Prison, who had completed the execution of his life sentence on July 29, 2023, was postponed for the 7th time.

On February 21, 2025, the police intervened the protest of Izmir Right to Life Defenders in front of Izmir Governorate where the Provincial Animal Protection Board meeting was held and forced the participants away from the Governorate building by using physical violence.

The police prevented the press declaration in front of Beyoğlu Movie Theatre in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on February 21, 2025, to protest the Ministry of Culture’s decision not to issue a copyright certificate for the film “Oyuna Geldik” directed by Kazım Öz, 45 days after the application date. It is learned that the press declaration was held at the entrance of the passage where the movie theater is located.
(02/222) Detained People in Istanbul within the Investigation Against HDK…
30 of 51 people including journalists Elif Akgül, Yıldız Tar and Ercüment Akdeniz, who were detained on February 18, 2025 in house raids conducted in 9 cities through an Istanbul based investigation against Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK), were arrested by the criminal court of peace on February 21, 2025 on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. 21 people, including journalist Ender İmrek, were released, 13 of them on house confinement and 8 on judicial control conditions.
The names of the arrested people are: Atila Özdoğan, Ece Yıldız Karabacak, Özlem Feza Sezer Bayram, Yakup Kadri Karabacak, Aynur Cengiz, Ayşe Bengi Çelik, Dilek Posl, Erkin Barın Göylüler, Kardelen Taş, Melek Kızılcaok, Şengül Erdoğan, Elif Akgül, İlknur Melengeç, Mehmet Saltoğlu, Ayşe Panuş, Ercüment Akdeniz, İbrahim Halit Elçi, Tarık Yıldız, Zeyfu Fakir, Alya Akkuş, Esengül Demir, Melih Kayhan Pala, Osman Zorba, Pınar Aydınlar, Saime Oğuzhan, Sema Barbaros Durmuş, Semiha Şahin, Ahmet Saymadi, Berfin Azdal and Emrecan Bayram were arrested.
The names of those released under house arrest are: Filor Uluk, Mehmet Turp, Ender İmrek, Mehmet Aslıvar, Mehmet Özcan, Taner Güven, Yıldız İmrek, İzzettin Yaman, Yazgülü Yıldırım, Yunus Öztürk, Nurcan Kaya, Naci Sönmez and Şeref Can Dilaver.
Those released on judicial control conditions are: Duygu Karadayı, Mürvet Hande Bultan, Filiz Çay, Gülsüm Ağaoğlu, Şenol Karakaş, Mustafa Mayda, Ali Mişe.

Through a Tunceli based investigation, 8 people were detained in 3 cities (Tunceli, Mardin and Bursa) through a Tunceli based investigation on the allegations of ‘aiding an illegal organisation’ and ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and were referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on February 23, 2025. 1 person was arrested; 8 people were released provided that 4 of them will be on judicial control conditions.
The names of the detained people are as follows: H.K., İ.K., S.A., N.A., A.Z., M.Z., R.Z., M.Z.

The final trial of the case against Ajansa Welat reporter Mahmut Altıntaş, on the grounds of objecting to the forced head bow of the police while being taken to the courthouse, is held at Adıyaman Penal Court of First Instance No 4 on February 21, 2025. The court sentenced Mahmut Altıntaş to 5 months for ‘resisting the police’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 23, 2025 that Nurullah Efe, chair of People’s Liberation Party (HKP), was sentenced to 1 year and 2 months in prison for ‘insulting the President’ at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2.

On February 24, 2025, Istanbul 14th High Criminal Court accepted the indictment prepared by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against Republican People’s Party (CHP) Youth Branch Chair Cem Aydın for his social media post about Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor. The indictment demands Cem Aydın to be sentenced for ‘publicly insulting a public official because of his duty’ and ‘targeting people who took part in the fight against terrorism’. The first hearing of the case will be held on April 30, 2025.

The final hearing of the lawsuit filed against Nasuh Mahruki due to a social media post was held on February 21, 2025 at Istanbul 15th Criminal Court of First Instance. The court sentenced Nasuh Mahruki to 11 months and 20 days for ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.
Nasuh Mahruki was arrested on November 20, 2024 and released on December 5, 2024.

It is learned from news coverage of February 22, 2025 that Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on the grounds of ‘forgery of official documents’ on the grounds that his diploma is fake.

It is learned that Mardin Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporter Ahmet Kanbal for his news reports and that the journalist gave his official statement at Mardin Provincial Security Directorate on February 24, 2025.

It is learned that Mehmet Alkan, co-mayor of Kağızman district of Kars, is suspended by Ministry of Interior on February 24, 2025 and Kağızman sub-governor Okan Daştan is appointed as trustee.

It is learned from news coverage of February 23, 2025 that at least 44 social media accounts are banned to access by various criminal judgeships of peace on the grounds of ‘protection of national security and public order’.
