According to news reports published on July 21, 2026, it was learned that a prisoner named Guzin Tolga, held at the Izmir Closed Women’s Prison (Şakran), began an indefinite hunger strike on July 13, 2026, demanding the abolition of the ID card system.
(07/132) Police Intervention at a Protest in Ankara…
On July 22, 2026, police intervened against workers from the Yunus Emre Thermal Power Plant who were marching to Ankara to protest the non-payment of their wages, detaining DİSK/Enerji-Sen President Süleyman Keskin and General Secretary Emin Atsız. It was also reported that one worker was injured during the intervention. Union leaders Süleyman Keskin and Emin Atsız were released on July 23, 2025, following their questioning at the prosecutor’s office.

On July 21, 2026, journalist Alican Uludağ was detained on the grounds of charges of “inciting the public to hatred and hostility” and “publicly disseminating misleading information,” based on his social media posts. was released on July 22, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which he was referred, subject to judicial control measures including a travel ban and a requirement to sign in regularly.

Journalist Ali Taş, who was detained in Antalya on July 22, 2026, due to a social media post he made regarding the detention of journalist Alican Uludağ, was released the same day by the magistrate’s court to which he was referred, subject to the judicial control measure of a travel ban.

Doruk Bulut, the Silivri District Chair of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), who was detained on July 21, 2026, as part of an investigation into the Silivri Municipality in Istanbul, was arrested on July 22, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which he was referred, on charges of “bribery,” “extortion,” and “tampering with a tender.”

Fatma Soydaş was detained in Istanbul on July 21, 2026, on the grounds of “insulting religious values,” based on her social media posts, as part of an investigation initiated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

On July 22, 2026, in Istanbul, three individuals—including Hasan Karabulut, Deputy Mayor of Eyüpsultan—were detained as part of an Ankara-based investigation targeting the Çankaya Municipality. It was reported that the three would be taken to Ankara.
(07/138) Social Media Account Subject to Access Restrictions…
According to news reports on July 22, 2026, it was learned that access to journalist Alican Uludağ’s X social media account and 13 of his posts was restricted under Article 8/A of Law No. 5651 on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.
It was reported that access to the X and Instagram social media accounts belonging to a person named Fatma Soydaş was blocked pursuant to a decision dated July 21, 2026, issued by the Ankara 5th Criminal Peace Court.
